When Bai Guolin arrived at the blood donation center, he realized that being a volunteer wasn’t as easy as he thought. The key issue was that he couldn’t get close to the blood bank, let alone steal blood samples. To get blood samples sooner, he began trying every method to build a good relationship with the blood donation staff, quickly building a reputation as honest and dependable.
Now that the staff had liked him, he soon learned that the process for panda blood donation differed from that for regular blood types. Because the demand for this rare blood type was low, they operated on a call-on-demand donation basis to prevent waste because of expiration.
However, this system meant he couldn’t get blood samples from panda blood donors. Without the samples, he had no choice but to find another way—getting the donors’ information and contacting them later to acquire the samples.
Bai Guolin volunteered at the blood donation center every weekend. It wasn’t until two months later that he managed to photograph the donors’ list. Looking at the list on his phone, he felt ecstatic, as it represented hope for Ruoruo.
However, before he could contact anyone on the list, a donor came to the station that day. It was a young woman who claimed to be a panda blood carrier but had never donated blood before. Naturally, since it was her first time, her blood needed to be screened.
Seeing the staff draw blood from the woman, Bai Guolin became visibly excited. His excitement reached its peak when a staff member received a phone call and asked him to deliver the blood sample to the blood bank. He nearly jumped for joy.
Bai Guolin had already memorized the woman’s basic information. Now, he only needed to swap the blood sample secretly and take it to test for a match with Ruoruo. Bai Guolin carried out his plan flawlessly. He had long gained the trust of the staff, who saw him as an honest and reliable youth. Who would suspect him of stealing a blood sample?
That evening, back in his rental apartment, Bai Guolin drew Jiang Ruo’s blood again and took both samples to the hospital, asking a doctor to perform a compatibility test. However, the doctor informed him that a kidney compatibility test required both the patient and the donor to be present for detailed examinations.
Bai Guolin was stunned; he hadn’t known that the process was so complicated. He begged the doctor to at least perform a blood compatibility test first, but the doctor ignored him. Unable to accept reality, Bai Guolin caused a loud commotion in the hospital and was eventually thrown out by security.
Outside the hospital, Bai Guolin realized that the two blood samples in his possession had disappeared, likely lost during the scuffle with security.
Bai Guolin sat on the steps outside the hospital, looking utterly defeated, like a withered eggplant. He had no idea how he was going to explain what had happened today to Ruoruo when he got back.
He had worked so hard, yet the result was still nothing. He truly was a complete failure!
Young Master Jiang Zhou was able to do it, and yet—
No, wait! There’s Young Master Jiang Zhou!
Ruoruo had mentioned before that Young Master Jiang Zhou had bribed the doctor responsible for conducting physical examinations for the Feng family. That was how he managed to perform the compatibility tests for Jiang Li and Ruoruo and obtain the results. If the doctors at the hospital were unwilling to do the compatibility test, there had to be someone else who would, just like the doctor Young Master Jiang Zhou had bribed. Unfortunately, he didn’t have the connections to contact such a person.
After sitting in silence for a long time, Bai Guolin decided to contact the only person who could save Ruoruo.
So he pulled out his phone and dialed Jiang Zhou’s number. The call was quickly answered, and an anxious voice came through, “Did something happen to Ruoruo?”
These days, every time Jiang Zhou closed his eyes, images of Ruoruo’s smiles would flood his mind. When drunk, he would even dream of unrealistic scenarios. In his dreams, he and Ruoruo weren’t biological siblings, Jiang Li had agreed to donate her kidney to Ruoruo, and Ruoruo had regained her health. Everything was perfect.
But dreams were just dreams, and there always came a time to wake up. Upon waking, Jiang Zhou was painfully reminded of the truth: Ruoruo was his biological sister, a fact that no one could change.
Ruoruo had never contacted him, and he didn’t dare reach out to her. He feared seeing her, feared hearing her voice, feared hearing her call him ‘brother.’ So when Bai Guolin suddenly called, Jiang Zhou’s first thought was that something had happened to Ruoruo. Otherwise, Bai Guolin had no reason to contact him.
Hearing the worry in Jiang Zhou’s voice, Bai Guolin immediately said, “No, Miss Ruoruo is fine. I’m the one needing your help, Young Master Jiang Zhou.”
“You?” Jiang Zhou’s tone was filled with confusion.
Bai Guolin quickly explained, “I’m reaching out because I want to know how to perform a kidney compatibility test between Miss Ruoruo and other panda blood carriers.”
“Other panda blood carriers? Did you find one?” Jiang Zhou’s tone and pitch noticeably changed.
“I managed to obtain a sample of panda blood, but the hospital refused to conduct the compatibility test. They said both Miss Ruoruo and the donor must be present,” Bai Guolin explained.
Jiang Zhou sighed. “Performing a kidney compatibility test isn’t easy. Going through the official procedure is indeed troublesome, and even if the blood types match, the chances of a successful organ match are still low.”
Back then, he had bribed the Feng family’s doctor to secretly collect a blood sample from Jiang Li and conduct the compatibility test. The fact that Bai Guolin had directly taken two blood samples to the hospital for testing was audacious. That the hospital hadn’t called the police on him was already lenient enough.
But even if the hospital agreed to do the test, so what? Even with matching blood types, achieving a successful compatibility match wasn’t guaranteed.
Bai Guolin quickly said, “I’ve been volunteering at the blood donation center for a while and managed to obtain contact information for 35 people with panda blood. We can test them one by one. There has to be a way.”
Hearing this, Jiang Zhou became visibly excited. “Are you serious?”
“Of course I am. I would never lie about anything concerning Miss Ruoruo.” Bai Guolin continued, “but I can’t accomplish this alone, so…”
“I’ll join you,” Jiang Zhou interrupted. “I’ll head to the Beijing as soon as possible, and we’ll figure this out together.”
Hearing this, Bai Guolin was overjoyed. In his mind, Young Master Jiang Zhou was omnipotent; with him now involved, Ruoruo’s illness would definitely be cured.
After a brief pause, Jiang Zhou added, “Don’t tell Ruoruo that I’m coming. I’m worried the emotional strain might be too much for her.”
“Understood. I won’t say a word unless Miss Ruoruo asks me directly,” Bai Guolin promised confidently.
If Ruoruo asked him directly, he wouldn’t be able to lie, but as long as she didn’t ask, he would keep silent.
After Jiang Zhou said “good,” he hung up. Following the call, Jiang Zhou searched his phone for a contact labeled ‘Dr. Zheng’ and made another call.
