ATCF Ch 20 Part 1 – He Doesn’t Like Talking to Idiots (I)

After exchanging phone numbers with Feng Song, Jiang Li soon received Feng Bai’s friend request, and the two cousins started sending her texts every day.

The younger cousin Feng Bai was talkative and lively, and he seemingly was able to find fun in almost everything. He always made sure to end their conversations on time before class and encouraged Jiang Li to study well. On the other hand, Feng Song was more reserved, but consistently sent her morning and evening messages and shared studying tips with her.

Once, when Jiang Li encountered a challenging problem set, Feng Song asked her to send him a picture of it and provided her with handwritten solutions in two different methods. He also comforted her by explaining that the particular question was competition-level and advised her to focus on preparing for the entrance examination for now. He suggested that once she got into high school, she could broaden her horizons by participating in academic competitions, and those types of questions would no longer pose a problem for her.

Jiang Li had to admit that Feng Song’s view coincided with her own, which improved her already good impression of him.

Meanwhile, Tong Yi found that Jiang Li’s frequency of checking the phone had increased significantly even since she met her two cousins. “Have you guys talked it out?” He asked curiously.

Jiang Li shook her head, “They haven’t mentioned it.”

Tong Yi leaned back on the desk and closed his eyes, “Should be soon.”

At first, he worried that the estrangement between the Feng and Jiang families would cause them to reject Jiang Li, even after discovering her true identity. However, the recent behavior of the twins made it clear that they were enthusiastic about their younger cousin. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before the Feng family recognized Jiang Li.

If his guess was correct, the Feng family was likely preparing a big move in secret. Otherwise, given Feng Bai’s personality, it would have been impossible to keep it a secret for so long.

It seemed that something exciting was going to happen soon!

Jiang Huai was completely taken aback when Feng Qi came to see him. He had already anticipated that Jiang Li’s situation could not be kept secret forever, and he knew that he needed to act quickly to win over the Qin family. If he could do this, even if the Qins eventually discovered the truth, they would have no choice but to accept Ruoruo as their daughter-in-law. As long as the Jiang family continued to treat Ruoruo well, the Qin family would not look down on her.

Surprisingly, the Feng family discovered Jiang Li’s identity so quickly and even came directly to ask for her custody.

Looking at the calm young man in front of him, Jiang Huai pondered for a moment before asking, “Have you taken Jiang Li for a DNA test?”

“There is no need.” Feng Qi’s words were concise.

Jiang Huai smiled sarcastically, “That’s right, your Feng family has always been so self-righteous. But why should I give you custody of my own daughter?”

The Feng family was notorious for their unreasonable, and this aspect of theirs had never changed. He still remembered that ten years ago, Feng Qi directly angered one of the Feng Group’s directors until the man got hospitalized for a stroke.

In response, Feng Qi calmly said, “My name is Feng Qi, Qi from qǐyǒucǐlǐ (absurd, unreasonable). Haven’t you known it?”

It could be said that the most unreasonable person in the Feng family was Feng Qi. Unfortunately, this man was also extremely intelligent. Most people were no match for this demon king and dared not to provoke him.

But even so, Jiang Huai still had no desire to comply with Feng Qi’s wishes. He was Jiang Li’s biological father and had not mistreated her, so why should he allow a mere uncle to come and attempt to take her custody away from him?

Upon hearing Jiang Huai’s response, Feng Qi promptly stood up and declared, “Fine. I’ll assist you in revealing Jiang Li’s true identity to the public, so just keep her household registration for the time being.”

As Jiang Huai’s anger caused his face to redden, Feng Qi nonchalantly added, “Until she reaches the legal age, that’s it.”

Jiang Huai: …

“You can take out a calculator and do the math, but you can keep her for a few more years at most.”

Jiang Huai was so angry that he almost flipped the table on the spot, but he knew that Feng Qi had always been true to his words, so he had no choice but to settle for the next best thing.

“I can give Jiang Li’s custody to you, but I have one condition.”

“Speak.” Feng Qi replied succinctly.

“I believe you have already figured out the real reason why I have not disclosed Jiang Li’s true identity,” Jiang Huai stated firmly. “Therefore, my condition is this: You can take her to the Feng family, and I will also relinquish her custody. However, you cannot reveal to the public that she is my daughter.”

Feng Qi readily agreed with a nod. He had no intention of disclosing to anyone that Jiang Li was the daughter of the Jiang family. Nevertheless, the old man at home would undoubtedly announce the return of his granddaughter with great fanfare.

From Feng Qi’s perspective, there was no contradiction between the daughter of the Jiang family and the granddaughter of the Feng family, as the two were not the same thing. As for what others thought about it, that was not his concern.

After the matter was settled, Jiang Huai looked at Feng Qi’s retreating back and fell into contemplation. He couldn’t figure out how Jiang Li got into the eyes of the Feng family, nor did he know when she actually got in contact with them.

If he had known that Jiang Li would cause such a ruckus, he wouldn’t have agreed to let her stay at school at weekends and would definitely cut off any possibility of the Feng family finding out about her existence.
