ATCF Ch 60 Part 2 – Could It Be Jetlag? (II)

Just after returning home, Jiang Li did indeed spend a few days idling with her second aunt, enjoying the leisure of doing nothing like a salted fish. But she soon felt uncomfortable and thought it would be boring to continue like this.

As a student, there wasn’t much she could do apart from previewing lessons. Additionally, she also had the option to accompany Feng Qi to the research institute. In Minjiang City, students choose their concentration—liberal arts or sciences—at the start of their second year of high school. Jiang Li had decided early on to study science, so she shifted her focus to science subjects during the summer break. As for the liberal arts subjects, she planned to just follow the school’s pace when the term started, just enough to get by for the exams.

Jiang Li was diligent in her visits to the research institute. Although she could study a lot of the content on her own at home, visiting the institute broadened her horizons and allowed her to absorb more knowledge firsthand.

During the previous summer break, Jiang Li spent every day in the lab with Feng Qi. As a result, her grandfather would occasionally voice his disapproval, showing his dissatisfaction. But this year Old Master Feng no longer voiced any objections when Jiang Li continued to accompany Feng Qi, knowing his protests would be futile.

Moreover, he also thought it was a good thing that his granddaughter loved to study. After all, she was in her prime age to strive and work hard!

Seeing Jiang Li studying hard, Old Master Feng thought of an old friend’s granddaughter who was causing her family worry over her love life, turning the rest of her poor grandfather’s hair completely white overnight.

Comparing the two, Old Master Feng felt that his own granddaughter was truly well-behaved and cute.

The summer break passed quickly, and after school started, Jiang Li officially became a second-year high school student. When it came to choosing between liberal arts and sciences, most students from the talent class chose science, with only a few opting for liberal arts. Jiang Li wasn’t surprised, as Minjiang First High School favored science over arts, offering talent classes only for science students, while liberal arts students were placed in experimental classes. What surprised Jiang Li was that many students who chose science ended up in experimental classes after the reassignment, while several from the experimental classes moved to the talent class.

Jiang Li found out that the initial class assignment was based on total scores across all subjects, but the rearrangement after concentration focused only on Chinese, mathematics, English, and relevant subject scores, causing significant shifts in rankings among students with unbalanced scores.

Due to changes in class assignments, there were also corresponding changes in dormitory assignments. Fortunately, all six students in Jiang Li’s room chose science and remained in the talent class, so there was no change in their composition. On the first day of school, Wang Simin pulled Jiang Li aside and asked, “Are you participating in competitions this year?”

“Of course,” Jiang Li nodded. She had used the summer break to preview the entire high school curriculum, and it would seem rather boring not to participate in competitions.

Wang Simin was eager, “That’s great. We can do it together. My goal this year is to make it to the national team and secure a recommendation for a prestigious university. I know you must want to beat your previous scores…”

Jiang Li shook her head, “That’s not it.”

Wang Simin’s eyes sparkled, “Do you want to score full marks like Senior Guo?”

Jiang Li shook her head again, “I’m participating in the chemistry competition this year.”

“…” It took Wang Simin a moment to process before asking, “Why did you suddenly decide to take part in the chemistry competition?”

Jiang Li explained, “I plan to study medicine in the future, and there’s a significant connection between medicine and chemistry.”

“Why don’t you participate in the biology competition, then? Biology has an even greater relation to medicine, doesn’t it?” Wang Simin was puzzled.”

Jiang Li honestly replied, “I will, but in the third year. I will also prepare for the college entrance examination on the side.”

“Preparing for the college entrance exam on the side?” Wang Simin’s expression was incredulous.

Jiang Li nodded, “Anyway, I’ve already secured a direct admission spot, so taking the college entrance exam is just for the experience. It doesn’t matter what the result is.”

“…” Wang Simin wanted to smack herself. Why on earth did she think it was a good idea to discuss such matters with Jiang Li!!!!

Seeing Wang Simin’s disheartened look, Jiang Li opened her drawer, took out a thick notebook, and offered it to her, “This is the notes I’ve compiled before. It’s yours now.”

Wang Simin’s eyes instantly lit up, and she clasped her hands together, “Prodigy god Jiang, you are my idol now, please accept my humble worship!”

Jiang Li: “…” No need to be so exaggerated, really.

Later, Jiang Li also shared her decision to participate in the chemistry competition with Tong Yi, who immediately expressed his intention to join as well. Although Tong Yi’s chemistry grades weren’t as outstanding as his math and physics scores, he decided to give it a shot.

Anyway, it was all for fun, no pressure!

“If the teachers in my school saw your attitude, you’d be scolded harshly,” Jiang Li commented.

Tong Yi was nonchalant, “I’m not your school’s student anyway, so your teachers can’t do anything to me. But if you want to criticize me, I’ll listen.”

Jiang Li immediately responded, “That’s true, after all, I am your elder!”

Tong Yi: “…” Will he ever live it down?

Time flew by, and September passed in the blink of an eye. Right after the last class on Saturday, Jiang Li quickly packed up her things and prepared to go home.

“Why are you in such a hurry to go home? Are you so eager to see all the handsome guys in your family?” Wang Simin teased Jiang Li. She had also been active on Weibo during the summer, so she naturally came across the viral ‘chain reaction’ picture. When she saw the bald man at the bottom of the stack and then thought of Jiang Li’s uncle’s glorious beauty, her blood pressure shot up and she immediately picked up her keyboard.

But when she argued with others that Jiang Li’s uncle was a handsome man, they accused her of daydreaming, and her lengthy explanations fell on deaf ears, which was quite frustrating. It wasn’t until someone posted a photo showcasing the genius researcher’s stunning looks that the public opinion in the comments shifted, and her blood pressure gradually normalized. Now, seeing Jiang Li hurrying to pack, Wang Simin’s thoughts immediately turned to the three incredibly handsome men in Jiang Li’s family, and her eyes started to sparkle.

Jiang Li replied cheerfully, “My eldest brother is getting married tomorrow, and I’m going to be a bridesmaid.”

Wang Simin’s eyes lit up, “Is your sister-in-law beautiful?”
