ATCF Ch 66 Part 2 – Two Misers (II)

Jiang Li also knew not to overdo it. When the man was about to faint from the pain, she finally showed a relieved expression. “It’s set now. Can you try moving it?”

The man in the yellow shirt stopped screaming. Under Jiang Li’s expectant eyes, he slowly moved his arm and found that it was indeed set. During the entire process of setting his bones, he silently cursed Jiang Li countless times in his mind. However, as he regained mobility in his arm and looked into Jiang Li’s sincere eyes, he abruptly felt that he had misinterpreted this beautiful girl.

Tong Yi sat on a nearby chair, his expression difficult to describe. Suddenly, he realized that Jiang Xiao Li’s acting skills were actually pretty good—perhaps even enough to win her an Oscar for Best Actress!

“Uh… thanks,” the man in the yellow shirt said awkwardly.

Jiang Li shook her head. “No need to thank me. Although your arm is set now, it will be limited in movement in the future. If you exert too much force during exercise, it’s very likely to dislocate again.” In fact, the thug’s hand would definitely suffer many sequelae. If he didn’t pay attention to recuperation in the future, he would feel pain during bad weather.

Seeing his dumbfounded expression, Jiang Li whispered, “Not only can you not lift heavy objects, but you also can’t engage in physical struggles. If you harass girls again in the future, a little force from them will likely dislocate your arm again.”

“…” The man in the yellow shirt finally realized, very belatedly, that this pretty girl who volunteered to set his bones wasn’t some innocent angel; she was more like a vengeful witch!

Having achieved her goal, Jiang Li ignored the man in the yellow shirt and turned her gaze to the other one, “Do you need me to set your bones?” She asked sweetly.

The man in the red shirt looked at Jiang Li in horror, as if he was looking at a devil incarnate, “No, no, no, I don’t need it. I’ll go to the hospital and find a doctor myself.”

Cold sweat broke out on the man in the yellow shirt’s forehead. He turned to his buddy, “You’d better set it quickly. There probably won’t be any orthopedic doctors on duty in the hospital now. If you delay until tomorrow and develop sequelae, it will be too late to regret.”

“No need!” The man in the red clothes refused outright. “I… I’ll go find a doctor myself.” As he said this, he instinctively took several steps back, as if afraid Jiang Li would forcibly set his bones. It wasn’t until he had retreated behind the police that he spoke again. “Mr. Officer, it’s not our fault today. These two are the ones who maliciously injured us. You have taken statements from those street-sellers, didn’t you? You should know we didn’t say anything out of line. It’s their fault.”

The junior officer who had taken them to the station snorted coldly. “Don’t try to confuse the facts. According to the stall owner, he couldn’t hear what the argument was about and didn’t mention anything about you saying anything inappropriate or not. ”

The fact that the stall owner was unwilling to testify was expected by the police. These two troublemakers were locals, and ordinary people didn’t want to provoke them. If they stood next to someone’s stall and showed a fierce expression, the person’s business would be ruined for the day.

Mid-conversation, his partner, a female officer, opened a notebook and began taking statements from the people present. The first to be questioned was Jiang Li. She obediently took out her ID card at the police’s request and handed it over. The officer glanced at the date of birth on the ID card and frowned momentarily, but she quickly resumed her composure.

Throughout the questioning process, Jiang Li cooperated very well. Apart from slightly exaggerating some facts, claiming the thugs had attempted to assault her several times and that she had been forced to injure them in self-defense, she recounted the events accurately. As if afraid the police wouldn’t believe her, she even pointed at Tong Yi. “That’s how it happened. If you don’t believe me, you can ask my cousin. He was there at the scene and can testify.”

The junior officer was stunned. “He’s your cousin?”

Jiang Li nodded. “Yes, although I still have parents, they never raised me, so I’m practically an orphan. My uncle has always had my cousin take care of me, so he’s like half my guardian.”

Tong Yi: “…”

When Jiang Xiao Li said ‘cousin’ just now, he almost didn’t react, because he had no idea what ‘naughty’ scheme she was up to this time. It wasn’t until he heard the word guardian that Tong Yi wore an expression of speechlessness. He glanced at Jiang Xiao Li’s ID card and, when seeing that the date of birth on it wasn’t her real one, everything became clear to him.

The date of birth on the ID card should have been the one assigned by the orphanage. It wasn’t until Jiang Xiao Li was taken in by the Feng family that she learned her true date of birth. According to the date of birth on the ID card, Jiang Xiao Li wouldn’t turn eighteen until New Year’s Day next year.

Although it was only a few days away, strictly speaking, Jiang Xiao Li was indeed still a minor now. Just now, she so sweetly called him her cousin just to make him her shield.

The junior officer wasn’t surprised when Jiang Li called Tong Yi her cousin, because both of them had the same type of face—the kind that gathered fans simply for being existed, so the possibility of them being related was quite high. He turned his gaze to Tong Yi. “Since you’re her cousin, there’s no need to inform her guardian. You also explain what happened.”

Tong Yi nodded, took out his wallet from his pocket, and handed his ID card. “Yes, I’m Jiang Li’s cousin. I couldn’t just stand by and watch my little sister being bullied, so I did something irrational. But those two were disgusting. Even if I could do it all over again, I would still do the same thing.” Tong Yi was in a good mood right now. Although Jiang Xiao Li was pushing him to be her shield, at least a cousin was another kind of brother. Feeling satisfied, he quickly got into character and temporarily played the role of a protective older brother.

The junior officer didn’t notice anything unusual, but the two troublemaking thugs kept clamoring for justice, shouting that they wanted to sue both Tong Yi and Jiang Li, saying Tong Yi’s words were clearly trying to evade responsibility, and maybe Jiang Li intentionally hurt them when she was setting the bones.

It wasn’t until the female officer shouted at them to shut up that the two thugs temporarily quieted down.

When it was finally the couple’s turn to be questioned, the guy kept being evasive, repeatedly glancing at the two thugs, obviously worried about retaliation. The girl, on the other hand, was very determined. She said these men were harassing her, but Jiang Li and Tong Yi came intervening and then they turned violent, resulting in Jiang Li and Tong Yi having to dislocate their joints in self-defense.

The two thugs were experienced in harassing girls. They always chose places without surveillance cameras to make it difficult for the victims to speak up. This time, they harassed the girl in the snack alley, relying on the lack of surveillance there and the timidness of the nearby street-sellers.

And now, their tactics backfired. They couldn’t produce any evidence to prove Jiang Li and Tong Yi had used excessive force in self-defense. And the fact that the girl stood by Jiang Li and Tong Yi’s side throughout didn’t help their case.

After taking the statements, the police began the routine mediation. With the police’s ‘mediation,’ the two thugs weren’t even allowed to demand medical compensation.

Unfortunately for them, they had already figured out one fact: this pretty girl named Jiang Li was a miser. She sang to the police about her miserable situation, saying that she was a third-year high school student whose parents never cared for her. She now lived with her grandfather and uncles, had no extra money, and had to be careful about her expenses.

Of course, all this talk only had one purpose: to avoid paying a single cent in medical compensation. Truly stingy to the extreme!

As for her cousin, he was obviously decked out in designer brands from head to toe, yet he had the audacity to cry poverty to the police, saying those clothes were all bought online for 99 yuan each, with free shipping.

Paying for medical compensation? No such thing existed!
