Feng Yun had not expected Jiang Huai to return so soon, and when he asked that question, her eyes subconsciously shifted away, clearly showing her guilt.
Jiang Huai immediately had a bad premonition. He looked straight at Feng Yun and asked slowly, “Did he really ask you to test me?”
Seeing his serious expression, Feng Yun knew something was wrong and quickly shook her head, “No, I was just asking on my own. A’Zhou has always treated Ruoruo as his real sister. You know this.”
Jiang Huai of course knew how much A’Zhou adored his sister. Precisely because his son had always been such a sister complex that he never expected that A’Zhou’s brotherly affections for Ruoruo would one day transform into a romantic love.
But loves were always unpredictable. Often, just a look from one could lead the other to do anything in the name of love, entangling two people together for life.
If A’Zhou truly harbored forbidden feelings toward Ruoruo, then he must eliminate these thoughts immediately, or else the outcome could be catastrophic. But before he was sure that his son really had this idea, he couldn’t ask directly, otherwise, things that were nothing at first might actually start to root with his probing, inadvertently leading to the exact outcome he was trying to prevent.
Jiang Huai knew Feng Yun was simple-minded and couldn’t keep secrets. His expression gradually returned to normal, and he said again, “Since you say A’Zhou has no such feelings for Ruoruo, then I’ll believe you. But you’re right—both children are grown up now, it’s time to start considering matters of their marriage. There’s Mr. Huang I work with; his son has been studying abroad and just returned. After the entrance exams, I’ll arrange for Ruoruo to meet him. If they’re suitable, maybe they can develop a relationship.”
Jiang Huai calmed down, but Feng Yun was instantly alarmed. With a look of astonishment on her face, she exclaimed, “You mean Huang Qi’s son? But he’s a notorious scum. Are you trying to throw Ruoruo into a pit of fire?”
Huang Qi’s son, Huang Di, was very well known in their circle as a troublemaker, and no one wanted their daughters to associate with him. When he was still in junior high, he forced a classmate to become his girlfriend, which eventually resulted in her getting pregnant. To keep things under the rug, the Huang family paid off the girl’s family a large sum of money, after which they sent Huang Di abroad.
Put nicely, Huang Di went abroad for studies, but bluntly put, he was just a scoundrel continuing his ways elsewhere.
Feng Yun couldn’t believe that Jiang Huai would even consider letting Ruoruo interact with such a person, let alone assertively propose their match. Was this man really the person she had loved and married to for over twenty years?
In the face of Feng Yun’s accusation, Jiang Huai remained calm and responded lightly, “Huang Di did many foolish things in the past because he was just a child and didn’t consider the consequences. Now he’s grown up and has matured a lot. He’s not as bad as you say.”
Of course, Jiang Huai never had the intention of matching Jiang Ruo with someone like Huang Di. He said this because he knew Feng Yun well and knew how to force her to speak the truth. As expected, Feng Yun couldn’t hold back. She looked at Jiang Huai with a trembling voice, “If you do this, Ruoruo will hate you. You can’t do this.”
“Why can’t I?” Jiang Huai stated firmly, “Ruoruo is not biologically related to us, yet we have raised her well and provided for her for eighteen years. What right does she have to hate me?”
“What about A’Zhou? Don’t you care about his feelings? Aren’t you worried that A’Zhou will hate you?” Feng Yun exclaimed.
Jiang Huai scoffed, “Ruoruo will have to marry someday, and if A’Zhou can look after her a bit after that, it would be good. Why would he hate me?”
“He will hate you!” Feng Yun looked at Jiang Huai as if he were a stranger she didn’t know, not a husband she had loved for more than twenty years. “Even if he only sees Ruoruo as a sister, he would never allow you to push her into a fire pit. What’s more… what’s more…”
Jiang Huai’s heart sank, but he still clung to a sliver of hope, “And what? Why don’t you say it?”
Feng Yun looked at Jiang Huai with a scornful gaze, “What’s more, A’Zhou loves Ruoruo. Do you understand what I’m saying now?”
At this moment, Feng Yun could no longer find any trace of the man she once loved in Jiang Huai. It was the same person, the one she had lived with for over twenty years, and yet, the man standing before her now felt completely unfamiliar.
He knew what kind of person Huang Di was, but he still planned to push Ruoruo into such a situation. How could she have been so blind to have fallen for such a selfish person in the past?
Feng Yun’s angry words left Jiang Huai feeling dizzy with shock, causing him to take a step back and lean against the wall. He shook his head, “You’re lying to me, you just want to stop me from matchmaking Ruoruo.”
Feng Yun looked at him with a cold face, “I indeed oppose you letting Ruoruo interact with that scoundrel, but we live in a lawful society. Even though you are Ruoruo’s adoptive father, you don’t have the right to arrange her marriage. I don’t need to oppose you, I’m telling you this because I don’t want A’Zhou to hate you.”
Jiang Huai clutched his chest, struggling to speak, “A’Zhou, he… does he really have such feelings for Ruoruo…”
Feng Yun nodded, “He has liked Ruoruo for a long time. You are his father, and you haven’t noticed this at all. Have you ever truly cared about your son?”
Initially, Feng Yun just wanted to test Jiang Huai’s attitude. When she realized that Jiang Huai opposed the idea of A’Zhou and Ruoruo being together, she thought about not clarifying the situation immediately and gradually convincing him over time. But when Jiang Huai suggested letting Ruoruo meet with the notorious Huang Di, she could no longer hold back—if Jiang Huai really did that, Ruoruo would be devastated, and A’Zhou would surely turn against his own father.
In just three short years, the couple had argued countless times. The current Feng Yun was no longer the meek woman who would cry and wait for her husband to come home. She now stood her ground and argued her points with Jiang Huai, something she would never have done before.
Yet Feng Yun still couldn’t believe that this man before her was the same one who had made her heart flutter so much that she decided to break away from her family. Now, she had no great expectations of Jiang Huai, but since he was still A’Zhou’s father, she didn’t want to see them become enemies.

Good for you, Jing Huai! Your karma has finally started to pay in. 😊 I hope you truly care for your “kids”, after all, a caring family is quite lovely, no? The resulting explosion, I mean. 😄 (Honestly tho, Jiang Ruo is the most innocent of the family unit, so I do feel bad for her. The rest is either thoughtless or merciless.)
Thank you for your work!! ⊂( ´ ▽ ` )⊃
Huh, why did it comment as anonymous??
(Don’t mind me, replying to myself bc it bugs me to lose track of my own comment like that, lol.)
Feng Yun is slowly seeing his true character.
So, your son wanting to sleep with the sister he’s known since birth is right. But your husband pairing that same daughter with a scumbag is wrong? Welp, I guess the true colors of this is coming to light.
