ATCF Ch 77 Part 2 – Her Former Childhood Friend (II)

As usual, Jiang Ruo went to the hospital for dialysis on time. They say the first time is the hardest—by now, dialysis had become a routine to Jiang Ruo and she had gotten used to it, especially since there was hardly any pain during the process. But today was a bit different because her brother couldn’t accompany her, saying he had urgent matters to attend to.

Jiang Ruo felt slightly disappointed but quickly adjusted her mood. Her brother had been with her almost every day recently, so she shouldn’t be too demanding.

Lying on the bed in the dialysis room, Jiang Ruo played with her phone to pass the time, waiting for the process to finish. Halfway through her dialysis, the door to the room was pushed open from the outside. When she turned her head, she immediately saw Jiang Zhou standing at the door, and her eyes lit up immediately.

“Brother, didn’t you say you had something important to deal with today?” Jiang Ruo couldn’t help but ask, her voice tinged with curiosity and joy. She could clearly sense that her brother was in a great mood, so something good must have happened.

Jiang Zhou didn’t answer her immediately. Instead, he turned his gaze to the nurse, asking her to give them some time alone. Only after the nurse left did he sit down in the usual chair beside Jiang Ruo’s bed. He looked at her, his voice filled with happiness, “Yes, I had something important to handle, and it’s already been taken care of.”

Jiang Ruo asked curiously, “What was so important?”

Jiang Zhou took a deep breath, trying to keep his voice calm, “I found a successful match for your kidney transplant.”

Jiang Ruo looked at Jiang Zhou in disbelief, struggling to sit up from the bed.

Jiang Zhou quickly held her down, “Don’t move! The needles will fall out.” He had accompanied Ruoruo for many dialysis sessions, watching helplessly as her veins were repeatedly punctured. But she would be fine soon. With the kidney transplant, everything could finally be better!

Jiang Ruo obediently lay back down, still unable to shake off her shock. She looked at Jiang Zhou with anticipation, “Really? Brother, you’re not lying to me, are you?”

Jiang Zhou’s voice was gentle, “When have I ever lied to you?”

Jiang Ruo shook her head, “You’ve never lied to me, but… but… I’m a rare blood type. When I was here for dialysis last time, I talked to another patient. She has common type A blood, but she’s been waiting for a transplant for three years without success. Am I really that lucky?” Before Jiang Zhou could respond, she asked, “So, when can I have the surgery?”

Ever since her diagnosis, Jiang Ruo had hoped every moment for a kidney transplant to return to a normal life. Now knowing she had a match, she couldn’t wait to get the surgery done.

Jiang Zhou suddenly fell silent.

Jiang Ruo thought for a few seconds, then bit her lip and asked, “Is… Is it not possible for me to have the surgery yet? Is the donor still alive? Or are they in a vegetative state?”

Jiang Zhou shook his head and quietly explained, “The person whose kidney matches yours… is Jiang Li.”

Jiang Ruo was stunned.

Jiang Li?

How could it be Jiang Li?

Of course, Jiang Li also had the rare blood type just like her, so the chances of a match were high, but…

Jiang Ruo’s joy instantly faded and then disappeared completely. “Brother, you’re joking with me, right?” She looked at Jiang Zhou and said softly.

Jiang Zhou immediately shook his head, “No, I’m not…”

“Jiang Li would never agree to a kidney transplant for me, don’t lie.” Jiang Ruo’s mood visibly sank.

Jiang Zhou quickly took out the matching report and quietly explained, “I bribed the doctor who conducted health checks for the Feng family. He got a blood sample from Jiang Li and secretly tested it against yours. Her kidney is a perfect match for you.”

Jiang Ruo was incredulous, “You… you… Brother, if the Feng family finds out about this, they won’t let it go!”

“I can’t worry about that now. I can’t stand to watch you suffer and do nothing,” Jiang Zhou said, looking at Jiang Ruo with a fanatical expression as if she were a fragile butterfly that might fly away at any moment.

After a long silence, Jiang Ruo finally whispered, “But what good does it do? Jiang Li and I are completely at odds; she would never agree to give me a kidney.”

Jiang Zhou’s eyes narrowed slightly, his expression turning gloomy as he murmured, “She won’t have a choice.”

Jiang Ruo grabbed his arm, “Brother, you can’t fight the Feng family. Don’t do anything foolish. I can’t afford to lose you.”

Jiang Zhou’s expression returned to normal immediately, “Don’t worry, I won’t take extreme measures unless I have no other choice.”

Jiang Ruo shook her head again, “I know Jiang Li would never agree. Don’t waste your efforts. The doctor said I can live for more than ten years with regular dialysis. We can wait for a suitable donor.”

“Don’t you want her kidney?” Jiang Zhou’s voice was gentle.

After a long hesitation, Jiang Ruo slowly shook her head, “I want to be a normal person again. If it weren’t for the Feng family, I would beg Jiang Li to donate a kidney. But with the Feng family protecting her, even if she agreed, they wouldn’t allow it.”

Jiang Zhou sighed, speaking softly, “Don’t worry, I won’t act recklessly. You know I never lie to you.”

Hearing this, Jiang Ruo finally breathed a sigh of relief.

When the nurse left earlier, she only closed the dialysis room door loosely, leaving a large gap. Qin Zheng, standing outside, heard the entire conversation between the siblings clearly.

He knew Jiang Zhou disliked Jiang Li and had once used Shen Mian to scheme against her. At the time, he thought that was the worst of it, but he never imagined Jiang Zhou would even go so far as to bribe the Feng family’s doctor to secretly obtain Jiang Li’s blood sample and conduct a compatibility test.

From Jiang Zhou’s tone, it was clear he was determined to take one of Jiang Li’s kidneys for Jiang Ruo.

But on what basis?

The Jiang family never raised Jiang Li, and after finally bringing her back, they never treated her well. Why did Jiang Zhou think Jiang Li would willingly donate one of her kidneys?

And Jiang Ruo… Jiang Ruo didn’t find anything wrong with Jiang Zhou’s idea. She was only worried about him being retaliated against by the Feng family.

If Jiang Li didn’t have the Feng family protecting her, would she be able to keep her kidney from these two siblings’ schemes?

At that moment, Qin Zheng’s idealized image of Jiang Ruo shattered. The pure and kindhearted Ruoruo he had imagined had never truly existed, merely a fragment of his fantasy.

He had decided to give up on Jiang Ruo after overhearing her banter with Jiang Zhou on the phone, where she referred to him as a mere former childhood friend.

At the time, he felt his pride and self-esteem were trampled on; unable to accept this reality, he had let go.

But it was only at this moment that he really gave up on Jiang Ruo.

She was right—they were just former childhood friends. If he ever liked someone, it was the fantasy version of Jiang Ruo he had created, not the girl in the hospital who now felt so unfamiliar.

Qin Zheng quietly left the hospital room. As he passed the reception desk, he handed a card to the nurse in charge, “Please give this card to Jiang Ruo in dialysis room five. The pin is my birthday.”

The nurse hesitated before asking, “What’s your name?”

Qin Zheng paused for a few seconds before replying, “Just tell her I’m her former childhood friend.”

After saying this, he quickly left. Stepping out of the hospital, he felt the surrounding air become fresher.

Qin Zheng sat on the steps outside the hospital, lost in thought, until a janitor came by and tried to comfort him, “Young man, you’re still so young. No matter what illness you have, stay positive and get treatment. Don’t lose hope.”

Qin Zheng looked up at the janitor, nodded, and said, “Thank you,” before getting up to leave.

As he got into a taxi, he took out his phone and dialed Jiang Li’s number.

That’s whay I’m wondering! Somebody needs to test her blood with the rest of the trash Jiang family.

  1. The fact outsider like Qin Zheng saw the problem…but Jiang people still remain on their bubble. They thought Jiang Li will be gullible as them (or probably planning something bad to her)
