ATCF Ch 80 Part 1 – Deteriorating Condition (I)

Hearing Feng Qi’s explanation, the assistant finally understood his intentions. Jiang Zhou’s scheming to secure Miss Jiang Li’s kidney for a sister not related by blood was simply ludicrous. If Miss Feng still chose to side with her biological son and adoptive daughter despite everything, Old Master Feng would likely be utterly disappointed, possibly giving up on his foolish biological daughter once and for all.

In any case, even if Old Master Feng still wanted to acknowledge this daughter, there would be no way he could persuade Miss Jiang Li to reconcile with her biological mother ever again.

On the surface, it seemed that the third master wanted to cut Old Master Feng’s ties to his biological daughter, but his true aim was to eliminate any possibility of Miss Feng seeking reconciliation with Miss Jiang Li in the future, severing their connection completely.

“I understand, sir. Do you also mean we take no action against Doctor Zheng for now?” the assistant inquired.

Feng Qi’s voice was indifferent: “Leave him be for now. Also, arrange for a few people to secretly guard Xiao Lizi and then do something nice for the Qin family as a way to thank them for raising a good son.”

“Ah?” The assistant was visibly puzzled but only hesitated momentarily before guessing, “Was it the young master of the Qin family who exposed what Jiang Zhou has been doing?”

Feng Qi affirmed with a short “Um,” and then hung up the phone. Right after, he sent a message to Jiang Li explaining why he had chosen not to deal with Doctor Zheng immediately. Although he figured that the clever Xiao Lizi would understand his reasoning, he still didn’t want her to be troubled by these minor details.

After sending the message, Feng Qi soon received a reply from Jiang Li saying she would follow his arrangements.

With a smile in his eyes, Feng Qi turned off his phone and got ready for bed.

Everything was in order, and it was time to say goodnight for real.

After Jiang Ruo finished her dialysis, Jiang Zhou took her home. Once back home, he began thinking about how to persuade his parents to approach Jiang Li for a kidney donation. His father was busy with the company and rarely seen, not to mention that Grandpa disliked him. Ultimately, it was up to his mother to persuade Grandpa and Jiang Li, so he decided to speak with her first.

Upon seeing Feng Yun, Jiang Zhou immediately began with excitement, “Mom, there’s finally hope for Ruoruo’s illness.”

Feng Yun was stunned for a moment, then her face lit up with joy, “Really? Has Ruoruo finally found a compatible kidney?”

Since Jiang Ruo’s diagnosis, although Feng Yun hadn’t been constantly by her side like Jiang Zhou, she had quietly kept up with her condition, and the household’s diet was now entirely tailored to Jiang Ruo’s preferences and medical needs.

During this period, Feng Yun had also become somewhat knowledgeable about chronic kidney failure. She knew that for Ruoruo to survive, she needed to regularly undergo dialysis and follow medical advice to slowly improve her health. However, if Ruoruo were lucky enough to find a matching kidney, the situation would be entirely different.

As such, when her son suddenly came saying that Ruoruo had hope, Feng Yun’s first thought was that a compatible kidney had been found, and she was naturally overjoyed.

However, Jiang Zhou suddenly hesitated upon Feng Yun’s response. Under her hopeful gaze, he seemed to find it difficult to speak, “I have found a compatible kidney for Ruoruo, but… the donor may not agree to the donation.”

Hearing this, Feng Yun paused slightly, “Is it because the family of the deceased doesn’t agree to donate the organs?” Before Jiang Zhou could respond, she quickly added, “Then let’s have a proper talk with them. Although it’s illegal to buy organs, we can handle it quietly. I think they might agree if we offered enough compensation.”

Jiang Zhou shook his head, “She… she is still very much alive, not deceased.”

At this, the hope in Feng Yun’s eyes vanished completely, and she murmured in dejection, “A living person wouldn’t be willing to donate a kidney. I don’t think we can convince her.”

Jiang Zhou quickly countered, “Every person has two kidneys, but under normal circumstances, only one is needed to sustain life. If she donates one kidney to Ruoruo, both she and Ruoruo can continue to live well.”

Feng Yun sighed deeply, her voice somber: “But that’s just what we, the family of a patient, would think. If I were also a panda blood type, I would naturally be willing to get tested for compatibility with Ruoruo and donate one of my kidneys to her. But if the patient and I had no personal connection, I definitely wouldn’t want to donate.”

Putting herself in the other person’s shoes, Feng Yun could understand why the other party wouldn’t want to donate a kidney to Ruoruo. While it’s true that everyone has two kidneys, who could guarantee there wouldn’t be complications after the surgery, or that the only remaining kidney wouldn’t have issues afterward?

Seeing Jiang Zhou glance hesitantly at her, Feng Yun sensed his unease and frowned, “You’re not thinking about doing something illegal, are you? I absolutely won’t allow that.”

Jiang Zhou shook his head: “I… I wasn’t thinking that.”

Although he had indeed considered forcing Jiang Li to donate a kidney to Ruoruo, with the powerful Feng family behind her, he had no means to coerce or secretly attack her.

Moreover, even if he succeeded by some fluke, he knew that the Feng family would never let it go. They would pursue him to the ends of the earth to avenge Jiang Li.

Thus, the only way was to somehow get Jiang Li to donate her kidney willingly. His mother might not be able to persuade Jiang Li, but if she could convince Grandpa, then Jiang Li would have no choice but to agree.

Feng Yun, who knew her son well, noticed his darkening expressions and immediately took on a stern tone, “A’Zhou, it’s distressing that Ruoruo is sick. We are equally anxious, but you absolutely must not consider underhanded means, let alone committing a crime. Do you understand?”

Before Jiang Zhou could respond, she continued to reason with him: “Moreover, while Ruoruo’s condition is severe, it isn’t life-threatening. As long as she follows the doctor’s orders and regularly undergoes dialysis, she can live well, right?”

“…” Jiang Zhou couldn’t agree. With Ruoruo’s condition, living well meant undergoing dialysis like clockwork for ten years, constantly worrying about the risk of her health deteriorating, severely limiting her options in life. Could that really be called living well?

Gazing directly into his mother’s eyes, he slowly parted his lips, “The person compatible for a kidney transplant with Ruoruo is not a stranger… it’s Jiang Li.”

Seeing Feng Yun’s shocked expression, Jiang Zhou hurriedly added, “I haven’t thought about doing anything to Jiang Li, she is after all also my sister, but given Ruoruo’s current condition, which you are aware of, if Jiang Li would agree to donate a kidney…”

Feng Yun cut him off, “Stop thinking about it; Jiang Li will never agree.”

Although she hadn’t had much contact with her biological daughter, Feng Yun knew very well that Xiao Li would never agree to donate a kidney to Ruoruo. In Xiao Li’s eyes, Ruoruo was the person who had stolen fifteen years of her life. When she finally returned home, her family still neglected her because of Ruoruo, and her own brother Jiang Zhou even instigated her classmates to create trouble for her. Given these circumstances, it was already good that Jiang Li didn’t hate her family. Asking her to donate one of her kidneys for Ruoruo? Impossible!

Seeing her immediately reject the idea, Jiang Zhou became anxious, “Mom, please listen to me…”

Feng Yun shook her head, interrupting him, “I know what you want to say, but Xiao Li will never agree, and I don’t wish her to agree either.”

No matter what, Xiao Li was her only biological daughter, and she owed her too much. Even if Xiao Li agreed to donate, she wouldn’t want her to go through with it. The burden on the remaining kidney would be immense post-donation, affecting daily life, and for someone as young and hardworking as Xiao Li, her body could easily break down as a result.

She would never want to see her daughter suffer such a fate.

Seeing Feng Yun so adamant, Jiang Zhou knew that no matter what he said, she would not agree. After a long silence, he spoke somberly, “I understand, Mom. I won’t force Jiang Li. I… I will think of another way for Ruoruo’s illness.”

Hearing this, Feng Yun finally relaxed. She would do her best to treat Ruoruo. Now that their family’s financial situation was declining day after day, even if the family’s money ran out one day, she could sell her jewelry, designer bags, and anything she owned for Ruoruo to continue receiving treatment. However, she didn’t want her son to morally blackmail her daughter to force a kidney donation.

Thankfully, A’Zhou had discarded that idea in time; otherwise, she really didn’t know what she should do.
