ATCF Ch 84 Part 1 – I No Longer Trust Anyone (I)

Hearing the words ‘paternity test,’ Jiang Huai could no longer stay calm. He looked at Feng Yun and pleaded, “Yunyun, are you seriously doubting me? Is it because of that day in the office…”

“Enough,” Feng Yun interrupted Jiang Huai, not wanting to argue with him any further.

Jiang Huai swore, “Yunyun, you have to believe me. Everything Feng Qi just said is a lie. He only said it to drive us away. Can’t you see that?”

Jiang Zhou, who had been silent all this time, suddenly spoke, “Dad, Mom, I want to take Ruoruo abroad.”

Jiang Huai slammed on the brakes, pulling the car over to the side of the road. He then turned to his son, “What nonsense are you talking about now?”

Before Jiang Zhou could respond, Feng Yun looked at Jiang Huai with a mocking smile, “Didn’t you just say that A’Qi was talking nonsense? That means Jiang Ruo and A’Zhou aren’t related by blood, so why are you getting panicked now?”

Seeing Jiang Huai remain silent, Feng Yun continued, “Before, you told me that you didn’t want Jiang Ruo and A’Zhou to be together because you wanted her to marry someone else for the sake of your business. But now that her health is like this, marriage is clearly impossible. What other reason do you have to oppose their relationship?”

After Feng Yun said all this, Jiang Huai finally organized his thoughts and, with a very sincere expression, rebutted, “Of course I still oppose! Given Ruoruo’s current health, no one would want her as a daughter-in-law, so why do you think I’d want her as my daughter-in-law?”

But Feng Yun was not fooled. “A’Zhou is willing to risk his life for Jiang Ruo. Do you think he cares about her illness?”

Jiang Zhou looked at Jiang Huai anxiously, “Dad, please tell me the truth. Are Ruoruo and I really related by blood…”

“No!” Jiang Huai angrily interrupted him, “Do you really think Ruoruo is your sister? Do you think I had an affair years ago, and she’s the result? Do you think I swapped her and Jiang Li on purpose?”

Jiang Huai fired off three questions, leaving Jiang Zhou utterly speechless, shocked by his father’s outburst. He certainly didn’t want to be related by blood to Ruoruo, but if they were, what should he do?

And what would happen to Ruoruo?

“Since Ruoruo isn’t my real sister, doesn’t this mean we can be together?” Jiang Zhou looked at his father with hopeful eyes, waiting for a positive answer.

Jiang Huai’s eyes flickered slightly. How could he possibly allow that? He must figure out a way to disclose the truth to A’Zhou!

Under Jiang Zhou’s expectant gaze, Jiang Huai finally said, “I already told you, I don’t want a sickly daughter-in-law.”

Jiang Zhou refused to back down. “And I already told you, I will only love Ruoruo in this life. If she’s sick, I’ll stay with her and help her recover. If she dies, I’ll die with her. We will never be separated.”

Then he turned to Feng Yun, “Mom, I really plan to take Ruoruo abroad. In China, organ trading is strictly prohibited, but that isn’t the case in some countries. I want to take Ruoruo abroad to find an opportunity.”

Feng Yun’s eyes widened, “What nonsense are you talking about? In a country where organ tradings are rampant, the law and order must be terrible. Do you want to die taking her there?”

“…” Jiang Zhou remained silent. For Ruoruo’s sake, he was willing to risk his life many times over.

Jiang Huai felt a sharp pain in his chest, “If he wants to go abroad, let him. We won’t give him any money. Let’s see how he manages to go.”

Feng Yun frowned at Jiang Huai, “Stop stirring up trouble. Jiang Ruo has been doing live-stream sales for years and she’s definitely saved up a lot of money. Don’t really force them to leave the country.”

Jiang Huai’s chest hurt even more. He was now so angry he couldn’t speak, only glaring at his unfilial son with furious eyes.

Feng Yun, worried that Jiang Zhou might actually be desperate enough to take Jiang Ruo abroad, tried to calm him down, “I won’t oppose you taking her abroad.”

Jiang Zhou’s face lit up with joy, “Thank you, Mom, for supporting us.”

Feng Yun shook her head, “I’m not supporting you. Until the paternity test results are out, I won’t support you and Jiang Ruo being together.”

Hearing this, Jiang Zhou’s face turned slightly pale. “Mom, do you still suspect that Ruoruo is… is my…” For the past eighteen years, he had always referred to Ruoruo as his little sister, but at this moment, he couldn’t bring himself to say those words.

Feng Yun nodded, “Of course I suspect it, but doing a paternity test is easy enough. You wouldn’t be unwilling to wait that little bit of time, would you?”

Jiang Zhou was silent for a moment, then turned his gaze to Jiang Huai. “Dad, you…”

“It’s just a paternity test, isn’t it? Let’s do it then.” Jiang Huai, cornered by the two of them, began to grow angry, his frustration turning to fury. He looked at Feng Yun, “Unless you see that damn appraisal, you won’t stop doubting that Ruoruo is my biological daughter, will you?”

“Yes,” Feng Yun replied without hesitation.

Jiang Huai nodded, “Fine, I can take her to do the paternity test and then deliver the report to you. Will that be enough?”

Feng Yun shook her head, “There’s no need for you to do the test. Just provide me with the samples, and I’ll arrange for the test myself.”

“…” Jiang Huai was stunned for a moment. Feng Yun obviously suspected that he might tamper with the results, and indeed, he actually planned to do exactly that.

Seeing Jiang Huai rendered speechless, Feng Yun continued without the slightest care, “Your blood, hair with follicles, nails, or saliva—all of these can be used for a paternity test. I can collect multiple samples and send them to every public hospital for testing, to ensure you won’t say the results are inaccurate.”

“…” Jiang Huai could tell that Feng Yun no longer believed a word of what he said. Given her current attitude, once she saw the appraisal result…

Once she saw the result, she would be even less likely to believe him!

After a few seconds of silence, Jiang Huai finally muttered, “Fine, I can give you the samples, but it’s already late today. Can we wait until tomorrow to talk about this further?”

Seeing Feng Yun remain silent, he continued, “Anyway, it’s only a matter of a day or two. What difference would it make? I have a clear conscience, so I have nothing to fear, but you need to think it over. Ruoruo’s already ill enough and can’t take any stress. If you suddenly go to her for a sample, won’t she have some hard feelings?”

Feng Yun indeed didn’t want to wait even a moment longer, but if Jiang Ruo really was Jiang Huai’s biological daughter…

Just the thought of that possibility made her horrified to no end, but what was even more terrifying was that she had been with this venomous snake, Jiang Huai, for so long without ever suspecting a thing.。”

Jiang Zhou quickly understood his mother’s thoughts. He also wanted to know the results as soon as possible, so he said, “Ruoruo has to go for dialysis tomorrow. I can find a way to get a blood sample from her, and then I’ll go with Mom to do the paternity test.”

“…” Jiang Huai had already seen that his son was now fully siding with Feng Yun, leaving him completely isolated.

Fine! Since Feng Yun’s being ruthless, he couldn’t be blamed for not playing nice either.

“I agree with A’Zhou’s suggestion.” Jiang Huai said to Feng Yun. “I’ll also give you my blood sample tomorrow. That way, you won’t accuse me of swapping the samples if I give them to you beforehand.”

Feng Yun stared at Jiang Huai for a few seconds before finally giving a slight nod.
