When Jiang Huai regained consciousness, he was already in the hospital, and the person keeping watch by his bedside was the assistant he had hired after Assistant Bai resigned. This assistant’s surname was Zhu, and although his abilities were far inferior to his predecessor, he was at least honest and obedient.
After Jiang Huai opened his eyes and slowly adjusted to the light in the hospital room, he asked, “How long was I unconscious?”
Assistant Zhu replied nervously, “Sir, you’ve been unconscious for about five hours. The doctor advises that you avoid excessive worry and stop staying up late to work.”
Assistant Zhu actually knew that Jiang Huai had fainted because he couldn’t handle the shock after finding out that the company shares had been frozen when he suddenly tried to sell them. Excessive worry and staying up late might have contributed somewhat, but they weren’t the main reasons for his collapse.
Jiang Huai then asked, “Why were the company’s shares suddenly frozen? Have you figured it out?”
Assistant Zhu immediately nodded, “Our company’s partner suddenly filed a lawsuit with the court and requested asset preservation, so the company’s shares have been temporarily frozen.”
Jiang Huai sneered, “Are you sure it was our company’s partner and not the partner of the Fengs?”
Right after Feng Qi revealed Ruoruo was his biological daughter, the company’s shares were immediately frozen. There was no chance that Jiang Huai believed that the Feng family had nothing to do with this. As for the so-called partner, they were surely bought off by Feng Qi, perhaps for quite some time now.
Now, Jiang Huai was convinced that Feng Qi wasn’t just randomly hitting the truth—it was almost certain that Feng Qi had already received the paternity test results and was certain of an imminent divorce from Feng Yun, which explains this sudden attack.
As for the target, it was also obvious. Clearly, Feng Qi wanted to prevent him from transferring assets out of his marriage. Although the Jiang family’s entire wealth was insignificant to the Feng family, they simply didn’t want to let him off easily.
Knowing Feng Qi’s usual methods, Jiang Huai was certain that the Feng family’s attack wouldn’t stop here—there was more to come.
After a moment of hesitation, Jiang Huai took out his phone from his pocket and sent a text to Jiang Ruo, asking her to come over alone. At this point, his only option was to send Jiang Ruo away as quickly as possible to try to win Feng Yun back. As long as he firmly grasped Feng Yun’s heart, the Feng family wouldn’t dare to make any drastic moves against him.
Just like more than twenty years ago, when Feng Yun resolutely chose to stand by his side, even Old Master Feng had no choice but to accept it despite his great reluctance.
…
Upon obtaining the appraisal report that confirmed Jiang Ruo and Jiang Zhou were siblings, the old housekeeper let out a long sigh, cursing Jiang Huai in his mind over and over again. That despicable bastard was even worse than a beast! However, there was now a more pressing issue in hand, and the housekeeper wasn’t even sure if the old master could withstand this blow.
Initially, the housekeeper intended to seek the third master’s advice before deciding whether to present these results to the old master, but the third master was a very busy man, either in the research institute or on his way to it. Most likely, the third master was locked in his lab right now, and it would probably be the evening before he returned. As for Miss Jiang Li, who could best soothe the old master, she was out taking her driving exam today, so he couldn’t consult with her either.
The housekeeper wasn’t someone who could hide his emotions, so Old Master Feng quickly noticed something was off. Having no other choice, the housekeeper reluctantly presented the reports, gently advising, “Old Master, please don’t get too upset. It’s not worth it to hurt your health over someone like Jiang Huai!”
When Old Master Feng saw that one glaring sentence on the piece of paper, his chest began to heave, but since he had already mentally prepared himself, he was able to endure the shock, even if he couldn’t fully accept it.
After a long silence, Old Master Feng finally spoke, “Get in touch with my eldest immediately and tell him to find a way to freeze Jiang Huai’s company.”
He didn’t care about whatever little assets Jiang Huai possessed, but he knew what that bastard valued most. To strike at a venomous snake, you have to aim for its vital spot, and he was determined to make Jiang Huai pay the price.
Ten minutes later, Old Master Feng received a reply from his eldest son: Jiang Huai’s company had already been frozen; it was done by A’Qi.
Old Master Feng was stunned for a moment before slowly calming down. He rang his eldest son a call and asked, “When did A’Qi start setting this?”
The son was momentarily taken aback before answering truthfully, “Two days ago.”
“…” Old Master Feng fell into deep thought. Two days ago—meaning the day before Jiang Huai came to visit, A’Qi had already started setting things up. Was it a coincidence?
After a long while, he finally turned his gaze to his trusted housekeeper. “Send someone to keep an eye on that fool and ensure her safety.” Jiang Huai had committed such a heinous act, and now that the truth was out, he might act recklessly out of desperation. Precautions had to be taken in advance.
The housekeeper was momentarily stunned but then quickly nodded, “Rest assured, sir, I’ll make the arrangements right away.”
“One more thing,” Old Master Feng let out a long sigh and handed the report in his hand. “Have this delivered to Jiang Zhou.”
The housekeeper nodded dutifully, but he couldn’t help asking, “Shall we send a copy to the eldest miss as well?”
Old Master Feng’s expression remained cold. “If you give her the report, will she believe it?”
“…” This time, the housekeeper fell silent. That was indeed unlikely!
Feng Yun’s stupidity aside, Jiang Zhou certainly needed to see this report. As for whether he could accept the truth, that was not something they needed to worry about.
“I can understand why A’Qi kept this from me earlier,” Old Master Feng sighed. “If I had known yesterday that Jiang Ruo was Jiang Huai’s child, he would not leave this manor intact.” He wasn’t concerned about Jiang Huai’s well-being, but his foolish daughter would certainly cause a scene, and things would spiral out of control.
Hearing this, the housekeeper nodded immediately, “You are right, sir. Third Master didn’t tell you the results directly and had you mentally prepared beforehand because he was concerned about your health.”
Old Master Feng sighed again, “Quickly get that report to Jiang Zhou. Even if his nature takes after Jiang Huai… he is still flesh and blood of that foolish girl.”
…
Upon entering Jiang Huai’s hospital room and seeing him lying in bed, Jiang Ruo’s expression turned anxious. “Dad, why are you suddenly hospitalized? Work is important, but you need to take care of your health too!”
Jiang Huai sighed. He motioned for Assistant Zhu to exit the room, then turned to his daughter, “Ruoruo, you weren’t accepted by any of the universities you applied to, were you?”
Jiang Ruo silently nodded. Her college entrance examination score was awkwardly low—not high enough for first-tier universities, but she didn’t want to settle for second-tier either. She had applied to several lower-ranked universities within the threshold of first-tier, hoping for a lucky break. Unfortunately, her luck didn’t hold, and none of the schools accepted her.
Fortunately, there was still the opportunity for supplementary admissions. She planned to apply to second-tier universities then, knowing she would get in somewhere.
“Don’t lose hope,” Jiang Huai reached out to hold Jiang Ruo’s hand. “You can fill out your applications during the supplementary admissions period. Second-tier universities might not be as prestigious as first-tier ones, but the difference isn’t as big as you think. Besides, the academic pressure at a second-tier university won’t be as intense as at a first-tier. Just pick a school where you can get in and focus on your health. That’s what matters most, understand?”
Jiang Ruo immediately nodded. “I understand. Thank you for your advice, Dad. Actually, I’ve already come to terms with it, so you don’t need to comfort me.”
For some reason, Jiang Ruo couldn’t shake the feeling that her father was behaving strangely today, almost as if he were saying his last words. Realizing where her thoughts were headed, she quickly scolded herself mentally. No, no, no, she shouldn’t jinx her father! It was so unfilial!
Looking at his obedient and sensible daughter, Jiang Huai felt a pang of sorrow in his heart. After a long silence, he finally looked at her and asked, “Ruoruo, if Dad wanted you to leave home and never contact anyone you knew before, could you do it?”
Jiang Ruo’s expression changed dramatically. “W-why? Dad, are you still against me and my brother?”
Jiang Huai nodded. “Yes, I am. I oppose you being with him. You can be with anyone, but not A’Zhou.”
Jiang Ruo’s mind turned blank. “Why? Is it because of my illness?”
Jiang Huai shook his head. “It’s not because of your illness. It’s because… A’Zhou is your biological brother.”
