When Jiang Li came out of the restroom and was washing her hands at the sink, a girl in a black dress with wavy hair stood next to her, also washing her hands. Just as Jiang Li finished and was about to leave, the girl quickly followed and suddenly posed a question, her gaze intense, “Are you the Jiang Li everyone talks about?”

In that instant, Jiang Li realized that the girl was hostile to her, so she didn’t bother to answer and even quickened her pace.

The girl swiftly caught up and blocked her path. “Hey, I’m talking to you! Are you deaf? Why are you ignoring me?”

Jiang Li finally stopped and looked at the girl, replying, “I’m not deaf, but you seem to be blind.”

The girl frowned. “What do you mean?”

“If you weren’t blind, you’d realize that I don’t want to talk to you,” Jiang Li said coldly.

The girl was taken aback for a moment, then frowned again. “You don’t need to be sarcastic. I came to tell you that you should stay away from Tong Xu. You two aren’t a good match.”

Jiang Li did not care, “Then you should tell him to keep his distance from me, because I don’t like being approached by people I’m not familiar with—such as him, and also you.”

The girl’s face turned ugly in an instant, as she had seen with her own eyes how Tong Xu had gone out of his way to invite Jiang Li to dance. Nevertheless, Jiang Li’s aloof attitude made her furious, causing her to speak impulsively out of anger. “Don’t act so high and mighty. You’re just a pitiful girl unloved by your parents and brother. If the Feng family hadn’t bothered to take you in, who do you think you’d be?”

Jiang Li raised an eyebrow and replied in a calm, almost infuriatingly composed tone, “But the Feng family did take me in. Even if that bothers you, there’s nothing you can do about it.”

The calmer Jiang Li was, the more furious the girl became. “Even if the Feng family took you in, you’re still just a pitiful nobody. Everyone knows about your family’s scandals now, so how shameless you could be, still putting on such an arrogant look in front of me?”

Jiang Li didn’t look perturbed in the slightest. “Those scandals should be addressed with the Jiang family members. Although our surnames are similar, I have nothing to do with them. If you continue to make a scene, I might have to take action.”

Now exploding in anger, the girl pointed at Jiang Li. “Hah, take action?! If you have the guts, then… Ah!!!”

Before she could finish her sentence, the girl let out a series of screams and looked at Jiang Li in terror. “Y-you… what did you do to my hand?!” All Jiang Li had done was lightly pinch a spot on her wrist, but now she felt her entire arm go numb, and no amount of rubbing seemed to help.

Jiang Li sighed and walked around the girl, returning to the banquet hall. As soon as she got back, Tong Yi handed her another cup of juice. “Your favorite, pear juice.”

Jiang Li shook his head slowly and firmly. “I don’t feel like drinking juice right now.” Making several trips to the restroom wasn’t a big deal, but she didn’t want to risk running into that crazy girl again and getting stuck in another pointless conversation.

Unfortunately for Jiang Li, trouble still managed to find its way to her despite her best efforts to stay clear. Less than ten minutes later, Tong Xu approached with a slightly embarrassed expression, “I apologize on behalf of Sun Minmin for what happened earlier.”

Jiang Li raised an eyebrow, puzzled. “You’re apologizing on her behalf?”

Tong Xu quickly nodded. “Sun Minmin is the daughter of my godmother. She’s young and has been spoiled by her parents. She just offended you, so I’m apologizing on her behalf.”

As soon as Tong Xu finished speaking, Tong Yi frowned and spoke up, “Are you talking about Sun Minmin who took the college entrance exam three times? If I’m not mistaken, she’s already twenty this year. When you say she’s young, are you referring to her brain capacity?”

Tong Yi didn’t bother to lower his voice, and his words immediately drew the attention of those nearby.

Hearing his comment on Sun Minmin’s ‘young’ brain capacity, several people who knew her couldn’t help but laugh. Her brain aside, Sun Minmin was certainly notorious for being immature. However, she was also known for picking on the weak and avoiding the strong, so they couldn’t figure out why she had chosen to mess with Jiang Li today.

Noticing the attention from their surrounding, Tong Xu felt even more embarrassed. He looked at Jiang Li and said quietly, “I’m really sorry, I…”

Jiang Li interrupted him, “You should feel sorry. That girl, Sun Minmin, came to cause trouble for me because you invited me to dance earlier. Even though I refused, she was still upset and went to vent her anger at me. So, my advice to you is: stay away from me.”

Hearing Jiang Li’s words, a buzz of whispers started spreading among the nearby crowd. They all realized that the young lady from the Feng family might look sweet and gentle, but she was not someone to be trifled with. If this had happened to someone else, they might have downplayed the situation, especially since jealousy and rivalry are sensitive topics that are better kept quiet.

But Jiang Li was different. Whether it was Sun Minmin, who had caused trouble, or Tong Xu, who tried to play the peacemaker, she was very blunt and didn’t leave them any face at all.

In short, it was the backing of the Feng family that gave her the confidence to be so fearless and assertive.

Tong Yi, seeing his cousin’s embarrassment, felt immensely pleased and wanted to share his joy with Feng Bai, only to realize that the guy had disappeared at some point.

As the surrounding people whispered, Tong Xu wanted to say something more, but Tong Youyou stepped up and said with a frown, “Brother, you should stop talking. Sister probably doesn’t want to see you right now.”

“…” Tong Xu suddenly wondered: Who does Youyou regard as more important, her biological brother or her ‘sister’ Jiang Li?

Even after the banquet ended, Tong Xu was still in a daze. Jiang Li’s blatant words advising him to stay away from her kept echoing in his mind. Tong Bingran had already heard about what his stupid son had done and was exasperated, “Do you like Jiang Li, or do you like that half-witted girl from the Sun family?”

Tong Xu immediately replied, “Of course, I like Jiang Li.”

Tong Bingran looked at him as if he were an idiot. “Then why were you apologizing on Sun Minmin’s behalf?”

Tong Xu was taken aback. “I was worried Jiang Li would be upset, so I…”

Tong Bingran glanced at his young daughter. “Youyou, tell your brother where he went wrong.”

Tong Youyou sighed, “If I argue with a classmate and another classmate apologizes on their behalf, I would think they’re in it together.”

Tong Bingran was pleased. His son’s emotional intelligence might be lacking, but at least his daughter was sharp and insightful. What a relief!

“Do you understand now?” Tong Bingran asked.

Tong Xu: “…”

Seeing her brother’s silence, Tong Youyou thought he still didn’t get it, so she tried to explain by giving an example. “Think about Second Brother. He completely stood by Sister’s side and even called Sun Minmin an idiot. That’s what a friend is for, understand?”

Tong Xu: “…”
