ATCF Ch 96 Part 1 – Karma (I)

After lunch, Jiang Li began organizing the items she needed to bring to the dorm. Feng Bai hovered nearby, making comments—saying this shouldn’t be brought, that was unnecessary—and eventually even tried to get hands-on.

Jiang Li firmly caught his meddling hand and warned, “Third Brother, if you keep causing trouble, I’ll have to complain to Second Aunt.”

Feng Bai grinned, “It’s the start of the school year, and my mom is super busy right now. She doesn’t have time for such trivial matters.”

Jiang Li smiled back, “Okay, then I’ll call her right now and tell her that you think the things she prepared for me are unnecessary.”

Feng Bai: “…”

After subduing Feng Bai, Jiang Li finally was able to focus on organizing her belongings. She packed the items she needed for the dormitory life into a large suitcase and put frequently used items into her small backpack, ready to head to the campus.

Feng Bai, worried that she might actually tattle to his mother, quickly volunteered to help carry her suitcase.

Jiang Li thought that her family would just drop her off in the city and let her go on her own, but unexpectedly, her grandfather insisted on accompanying her to the campus and checking out the dormitories. After all, it’s common for parents to help their children settle in when they start university.

Starting from her grandpa, the rest of the family decided they also wanted to come along, and so the whole group set off together.

When they arrived outside the campus gate, Jiang Li hadn’t even gotten out of the car before she noticed a welcome banner for the freshmen at the entrance, along with many senior students and staff, and some people promoting SIM cards.

Jiang Li opened the passenger door and got out of the car. As soon as she stepped out, a senior student came over to welcome her. However, when the senior saw several more people getting out of the car one after another, she seemed a bit taken aback.

Every year, freshmen are often accompanied by their parents, which is a common practice. But it was rare to see a new student arrive with such a large family entourage.

Judging by appearances, it seemed like this girl was accompanied by her grandfather, along with three elder brothers, two of whom were obviously twins. The senior quickly regained her composure and flashed a big smile, “Welcome! Which department and major are you in? If you hand me your registration documents, I can guide you through the necessary procedures.”

Jiang Li immediately expressed her thanks, handed over the required documents from her acceptance letter, and then followed the senior to complete the registration process.

While handling the paperwork, the senior discovered that Jiang Li was actually this year’s top scorer in science and exclaimed, “I can’t believe I’m welcoming such a prodigy god!”

Jiang Li responded with a smile, “I’m not a prodigy. In my family, I’m just an ordinary person.”

The senior quickly added, “I know, I know. You have an incredible uncle. We all know him—he’s an idol for us medical students.” After learning Jiang Li’s identity, the senior’s attitude became even warmer, and she looked at Jiang Li with a gaze full of admiration. Luckily, Jiang Li had grown accustomed to such looks over the years, so she didn’t feel awkward.

The senior sneaked a glance at the people behind Jiang Li and asked, “Are they your grandfather and brothers?”

Jiang Li shook her head, “No, that’s my grandfather, my uncle, and two of my brothers.”

The senior sister’s eyes widened instantly. She turned her gaze towards Feng Qi and said incoherently: “T-then… then you are…”

Feng Qi said in a gentle voice, “I’m Feng Qi. Shall we continue with the registration process?”

The senior nodded vigorously, like a chick pecking at grains, but her eyes still sparkled with stars. For medical students like them, Great God Feng Qi was absolutely an idol!

She had seen photos of him before, but after some time, she had forgotten. She never expected to meet her real-life idol while welcoming new students—it was absolutely worth it!!!

Afterward, Jiang Li followed the senior through the entire registration process and received her room key. The senior then accompanied her to the dormitory building and helped her collect the supplies from the dorm supervisor before reluctantly leaving. Jiang Li turned to Feng Qi and said jokingly, “I’ve noticed that wherever you are, Uncle, I’m just your niece, not myself.”

Feng Qi chuckled, “Yes, for now. But in a few years, people might say, ‘That’s Jiang Li’s uncle,’ instead of ‘That’s Feng Qi.’”

Jiang Li shook her head, “I wouldn’t even dare dream that big.” Winning a Nobel Prize in your thirties is more than just ‘outstanding.’ She would strive in that direction, but as for what she could achieve, she couldn’t say for certain.

The family chatted and laughed as they made their way to Jiang Li’s new dorm room. Jiang Li found that the dorms at the Capital Medical University were four-person rooms. At the moment, only one roommate had arrived, a girl with a baby face who smiled shyly when she saw them enter.

After exchanging greetings, the girls both briefly introduced themselves. Jiang Li learned that her new roommate’s name was Wen Wan, and they were in the same major. Wen Wan had obviously heard of Jiang Li before, but while her eyes lit up, she didn’t react too exaggeratedly.

Feng Bai carried the suitcase inside and then told Jiang Li to choose a bed. Following her usual preference, she picked the bed by the window.

As soon as she selected her bed, Feng Bai immediately jumped into action, insisting on helping her make the bed. Jiang Li quickly stopped him, “The bed sheets need to be washed before they can be used, Third Brother. You don’t need to worry, I can handle it myself.”

Feng Bai was stunned. “Didn’t we just pick them up? Do they really need to be washed?”

Feng Qi suddenly spoke up, “They don’t need to be washed, and you could even go years without washing them.”

“…” Feng Bai felt like he was being targeted for no reason, but didn’t dare to say anything!

Seeing their interaction, Wen Wan burst into laughter almost instantly, but she quickly returned to her senses and muffled her laughter. Noticing that no one was paying attention to her, she was slightly relieved.

Jiang Li started unpacking her belongings and placing them in the wardrobe one by one. When Wen Wan saw the skincare products Jiang Li casually placed on the desk, her eyes lit up, and she whispered, “We’re using the same series.”

Jiang Li smiled, “My aunt picked these out for me. I don’t really know much about beauty products.”

Wen Wan tilted her head, looking at Jiang Li, “With your great skin, you can use anything you want.”

Feng Bai immediately laughed, “You’re so good with words. I like it!”

Hearing Feng Bai’s teasing, Wen Wan instantly lowered her head and stopped talking. It was obvious that she was a shy person.

Old Master Feng gave his third grandson a disapproving look, “If you don’t know how to speak properly, then say less. Don’t scare the young lady!”

Feng Bai: “…” Now even Grandpa is picking on me!

After Jiang Li finished unpacking, her grandfather showed a reluctant expression. “Xiao Jiang Li, since you are studying far away from home, you must take good care of yourself. If anyone dares to bully you, don’t put up with it and if you encounter any problems you can’t solve, let the family know immediately, understood?”

Jiang Li nodded right away, “Don’t worry, Grandpa. If anyone’s getting bullied, it’ll be me bullying others. No one dares to mess with me.”

Jiang Li walked her family to the campus gate, waved goodbye, and then turned around, slowly making her way back into the dormitory. When she moved from the county to Minjiang City, she didn’t feel much emotion, thinking it was just moving from one unfamiliar place to another. But after spending over three years in Minjiang City, she had taken the place as her hometown, and moving to a completely unfamiliar city made her feel a sense of loss.

As she walked a few steps, she felt her phone vibrating in her pocket. When she took it out, she saw it was a text from Feng Qi: [In about two weeks, I’ll be coming over for a seminar. It’ll be on the weekend, so you can be my assistant.]

Jiang Li’s eyes instantly lit up again. She turned around and spotted her uncle’s figure, who gave her a warm smile. She immediately nodded enthusiastically.

Feng Bai was puzzled, “What is Xiao Jiang Li doing?”

After Jiang Li turned and walked away, Feng Qi gave his silly nephew a glance, “You don’t need to know.”

Feng Bai: T_T

Back in the dormitory, Wen Wan greeted with a shy smile, “Have your family all left?”

Jiang Li nodded, “Yes, they are all busy people.”

Wen Wan nodded and suggested, “How about we take a walk around the campus? Our uni is pretty big. I arrived yesterday but still haven’t explored much.”

It was almost dinner anyway, so Jiang Li readily nodded, “Sure, let’s walk around for a bit and then go get something to eat.”

The girls started wandering around the campus aimlessly. When they reached the library, they both wanted to take a look inside, but since they hadn’t yet received their library cards, a staff member stopped them from entering.

As they continued walking, they noticed some people ahead handing out flyers for voluntary blood donation. Jiang Li, remembering that she was now eighteen, thought she could donate blood occasionally to help those in need. When Wen Wan learned that Jiang Li had a rare panda blood type1, she mentioned, “The process for donating panda blood is different from that for regular blood types. Usually, you need to register at a blood donation center, and then they’ll call you when someone needs your blood.”

Jiang Li nodded, “Then I’ll go register at the blood donation center when I have some time.” Curious about how her new roommate knew so much about the process for panda blood donation, she asked, “Are you also panda blood?”

Wen Wan shook her head, “No, I’m not. But my—… a close friend of mine has panda blood. He was planning to donate blood before, so I learned a bit about the process from him.”

Jiang Li nodded, “I see, that does sound convenient.”

Wen Wan blushed slightly, “W-well, I can introduce you two later.”

Jiang Li nodded, “Sure, that sounds good.”

  1. It’s probably a bit late for this footnote, but panda blood is a nickname for Rh negative blood type in China.
