DDDV Ch 172 Part 2 – Let’s See What Kind of Trick They Are Hiding in Here (II)

In the Devil Realm, everyone knew the Little Princess was His Venerable’s treasured darling. On top of her father’s backing, she also had ability and strength of her own, along with a loyal army that could sweep through thousands of enemies.

Who in the Devil Realm would dare oppose her?

Well, some apparently did. Those currently imprisoned in the dungeon were fools who dared to defy both the Little Princess and His Venerable openly. Most of these were actually the lowest-ranked of devils. Living in remote areas with little reverence for the two supreme beings of the Devil Realm, they ended up causing trouble. Higher-level devils also disdained the so-called peace treaty, but their fear of His Venerable served as deterrence, and thus they dared not stir trouble.

As the four brothers chatted, they didn’t notice a handsome man in a loose purple robe appear in one of the cells. The prisoner in that cell was bound with his limbs spread against the wall, covered in fresh, open wounds all over his body.

The man in purple stood before the prisoner, inspecting him. A vast power suddenly invaded the prisoner’s soul, causing his face to contort in pain, unable even to scream. Moments later, his eyes bulged and his head drooped lifelessly.

The immense power slowly retracted, and the man in purple frowned slightly.

“Who’s there?!”

The four brothers, who had been talking in the outer room, quickly reacted to the abnormal presence. They quickly seized their weapons and arrived at the scene, but when they saw the figure standing with his back turned, they immediately dropped to their knees, trembling.

“Y-your Venerable!”

The man was indeed Lu Qingyu. He cast an indifferent glance at the four warden devils and then stepped into another cell. Today, he received a letter from his daughter while in the seclusion. The kid rarely asked him to do anything for her, so Lu Qingyu naturally wouldn’t turn down this request. He was aware that his daughter had been dispatching her devil army to catch devils causing trouble in the Cultivation Realm, but he hadn’t paid much attention—to him, it was just a trivial matter.

Scanning the Punishment Hall with his spiritual sense, Lu Qingyu was a bit surprised—so many devils had been captured over the past two to three years?

Yaoyao suspected that the demon race might be behind this and had asked him to investigate. Lu Qingyu skipped the hassle and went straight to searching the prisoners’ souls and looking into their memories. The first one he probed had no signs of external manipulation. His lover had been killed by humans, fueling a deep-seated hatred that led him to massacre the entire family of the person responsible, ignoring the fact that the humans had killed his lover in self-defense after she attacked first…

With no particular order, Lu Qingyu continued to search the souls of several other prisoners, only to cover similar stories. None showed any evidence of the demon race’s involvement. He pondered; if not for his daughter’s insistence, he might have dismissed these incidents as mere coincidences. There had always been devils sneaking into the Cultivation Realm and causing trouble, and it wasn’t rare for even worse incidents to happen from time to time.

Lu Qingyu never cared about this, typically ignoring such matters unless they caused trouble right before him. He understood well that the animosity between humans and devils had reached a point where they would attack each other on sight. If he enforced the peace treaty strictly, forbidding any conflicts with humans, wouldn’t that mean devils could only stand there and wait to be killed?

That would be a pointless waste of lives. Expecting devils to adhere to the agreement when humans did not—what kind of joke was that?

Meanwhile, Grand Elder Shentu, having received word of His Venerable’s presence at the Punishment Hall, rushed over at first notice. Without questioning his liege’s purpose there, he silently followed Lu Qingyu, watching as he searched the souls. Finally, Grand Elder Shentu asked with a smile, “Your Venerable, is there something amiss with them?”

Lu Qingyu walked out of the cell. The four wardens had already arranged the seating and were dutifully serving His Venerable.

Lu Qingyu sat down and looked at the elder, adjusting his left sleeve leisurely. “Things have been lively lately.”

Grand Elder Shentu nodded in agreement, “Indeed, it has been much livelier.”

The Three Realms were indeed bustling recently. The demon race had unified, with the Demon Emperor busily consolidating power. The Cultivation Realm was also in turmoil. Ever since the gateway connecting the two realms had re-opened, many devils had ventured into the Cultivation Realm.

“Hmm?” Lu Qingyu’s expression remained indifferent.

Grand Elder Shentu bowed slightly, “Your Venerable, our Devil Realm has also seen quite a bit of activity recently.”

Over the past two to three years, not only had the Cultivation Realm been unstable, but even the Devil Realm had experienced unrest. The inhabitants of the border areas of the Devil Realm frequently discovered corpses of their fellow devils, with further investigations revealing humans as the culprits.

Even without today’s episode, Grand Elder Shentu had intended to seek out His Venerable. One of his disciples’ hometowns had been attacked, and the disciple had come to him in tears. Grand Elder Shentu was planning to ask His Venerable if he could allow his disciple to seek revenge.

Lu Qingyu’s fingers tapped rhythmically on the wooden table. “What is the Demon Realm currently up to?”

Grand Elder Shentu continued to smile amiably—those who didn’t know better might mistake him as a friendly neighborhood old man and not the feared First Grand Elder under the Devil Venerable. “It’s said that the Demon Emperor is currently in seclusion, though the truth of this is uncertain.” He reported. They had spies in the demon race and were aware of their general activities. Apparently, no demon had seen the emperor after his seclusion, and those who dared to probe never returned.

Lu Qingyu slowly furrowed his brow.

Grand Elder Shentu, ever serene, remarked, “In my opinion, the demon race is currently too preoccupied with their own issues to stir up trouble behind the scenes.”

As for the reason, it was precisely because the Demon Emperor’s position was not yet solidified. He had gained his position largely due to bloodline suppression. While the divine beast’s bloodline was supreme among other demons, his cultivation level was not much better than the Demon Kings. The Demon Emperor currently lacked sufficient power to fully suppress his discordant, so he hadn’t yet gained complete control over the Demon Realm.

As the reports suggested, the Demon Emperor was not in seclusion to enhance his cultivation, but to heal severe injuries. He had suffered serious wounds and, with his throne not yet secure, had to secretly recover under the guise of secluded cultivation.

Given such circumstances, how could the Demon Emperor have the energy to cause trouble in the human and devil realms? Besides, as long as the Devil Venerable and Dao Venerable presided over their respective race, the demon race could not cause significant turmoil—especially given the risk of the two Venerables joining forces to deal with them instead.

Perhaps due to his long life, Grand Elder Shentu found this peaceful environment quite suitable for nourishing his mind and body. Occasionally, he still had the urge for slaughter, but at his age, he could control his instincts well.

Elder Shentu had always looked to the Devil Venerable as his leader and disciplined himself strictly, but the recent reports of humans killing devils at the borders, apparently out of revenge, had caused him some alarms. He faithfully reported these incidents and awaited His Venerable’s decision.

Lu Qingyu tapped his fingers lightly on the armrest, pondering for a moment before suddenly smiling, “How interesting.”

Grand Elder Shentu bowed even more reverently.

Lu Qingyu stood and walked out of the Punishment Hall, casually dispersing orders, “Summon all the grand elders along with the devil kings and head of the major clans to see This Venerable.”

There was a sudden fluctuation in the air, and a low voice responded, “Yes,” before vanishing again.

In an instant, a storm was brewing in the Devil Realm. The kings and elders, upon receiving the Devil Venerable’s command, hurried to the palace, fearing they might be late. Once, a certain king had dawdled at a summon, arriving a bit later after His Venerable himself. Upon seeing this, His Venerable didn’t say anything and casually killed him on the spot.

Since then, no one dared to delay His Venerable’s summon.

The last king to arrive saw the hall already filled with his peers and immediately broke into a cold sweat. He lived farthest from the palace and received the message last. He rushed over as quickly as possible but still ended up arriving last. His breathing was heavy and labored, fearing his life might end at any second. When he timidly looked up and saw the throne empty, he finally heaved a sigh of relief, feeling as though he had narrowly escaped death.

The king’s movements were conspicuous in the silent hall, but no one mocked him. Everyone remained still and quiet.

Shortly after, Lu Qingyu appeared before the throne. He sat down casually, his posture relaxed. He glanced around at the gathered devils and spoke a few words. The entire hall was instantly shocked, and all the devils fell to their knees, drenched in cold sweat, not even daring to breathe loudly.

Lu Qingyu casually waved his sleeve and said a few more words, causing the devils to bow even lower.

Finally, Lu Qingyu said indifferently, “Dismissed.”

“Yes.” The devils bowed and slowly withdrew, leaving Lu Qingyu alone in the hall. He stood before the throne, hands clasped behind his back. “Let’s see what kind of trick they are hiding in here,” he sneered.

  1. With Lu Yaoyao being the none the wiser, she’ll let the leaders of each of the three realms be aware of conspiracies that can be nipped in the bud before they escalate to their original trajectories, lol. I just wonder what conclusion Lu Qingyu came to after searching the souls of the prisoners and listening to the reports from the first elder.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
