“I arrived today and watched the match. You performed well.” Lu Qingyu said.
Lu Yaoyao sighed, “But Daddy, didn’t you just see me lose?” She covered her face in embarrassment, “I challenged Senior Sister, but I lost.”
Lu Qingyu chuckled, “Will you continue to slack off in your training from now on?”
Lu Yaoyao shook her head and pretended to be stupid, “I never slacked off.” She just wanted to learn too many things and inevitably got distracted. But she was still young, wasn’t she? In another ten, dozens, or even hundreds of years, she would have enough time to learn everything properly.
Lu Yaoyao excitedly said, “You know, Daddy, Senior Sister Yu is really amazing! Her sword intent is so domineering. I’ve only felt something like it from Father, but Father’s sword intent is even more overwhelming… When will I be able to materialize my own sword intent?”
Her Father’s cultivation had reached the level where he was one with his sword. Even without wielding a real sword, he could still materialize his sword intent, which was so refined that it had returned to its primordial form. Currently, no one else has reached the same level of sword mastery as Father! Not all sword cultivators could comprehend sword intent in their lifetime, but those who did would attain a powerful weapon that had the potential to transcend their cultivation level, providing a major boost of power.
“If only my cultivation wasn’t sealed, I definitely could have beaten Senior Sister Yu!” Lu Yaoyao complained. Even with the difference in cultivation level, she had fought so well at the match. Without the seal, she would definitely have a good chance of winning!
Lu Yaoyao looked at Lu Qingyu, raising her wrist coquettishly, “Daddy~”
Lu Qingyu’s smile faded, “No.” The overwhelming fatherly love crumbled in an instant.
Lu Yaoyao pouted. “By the way, Daddy, how’s the investigation going?” She remembered another matter and quickly asked.
She had written about the incident in Cold Mountain Forest but hadn’t received a reply. Afterward, she had been busy training for the tournament and had forgotten about it until now. What’s the situation now? Did they catch the devil who dared to commit such crimes so close to Guiyuan?
“You don’t need to worry about it. Daddy has it under control.” Lu Qingyu put her down and stood up casually, “Just enjoy your time here and have fun.”
“I’m not just having fun,” Lu Yaoyao retorted, then asked, “But I want to know, Daddy, is it because some devils are unhappy with your rule that they come to the Cultivation Realm to stir up trouble? Could it be they are hoping to incite a war between humans and devils to overthrow your rule?”
The biggest impression Lu Yaoyao had in the Devil Realm was that no devil dared to disobey her Daddy, who ruled over them with merciless, bloody fists. Even though she hadn’t seen it firsthand, she had heard about it. She thought all devils would obediently follow the rules, but coming to the Cultivation Realm, she realized many devils were unhappy with the peace agreement and went to the Cultivation Realm to cause trouble.
Lu Qingyu arrogantly stated, “As long as I am here, the Devil Realm is under my control.”
“And what about the devils causing trouble in the Cultivation Realm?”
Lu Qingyu glanced at Lu Yaoyao, a meaningful smile playing on his lips, “What if This Venerable was the one who sent them?”
“Absolutely not!” Lu Yaoyao immediately denied it.
Lu Qingyu smiled, “You trust Daddy that much?”
Lu Yaoyao hugged him and looked up, “Of course! Daddy’s my daddy. If I don’t trust you, who will I trust?”
Lu Qingyu’s smile didn’t reach his eyes, “What if your father told you it was me?”
Lu Yaoyao blinked, “Then there must be some misunderstanding.”
“Haha…” Lu Qingyu was very pleased. He patted Lu Yaoyao’s head, his smile broadening, “Seems like I haven’t spoiled you for nothing.”
“Alright, get some rest. Daddy will come to see you another day.” With that, Lu Qingyu turned and disappeared in an instant.
Lu Yaoyao watched Lu Qingyu leave and blinked. So, what was the real reason? Why did Daddy avoid answering her question?
Also, what did his earlier words mean? Did the investigation lead back to Daddy?
No matter how much Lu Yaoyao was conflicted inside, Lu Qingyu did not come back to clear up her doubts. She went to bed with a bunch of questions, only to have a nightmare where her Father and Daddy misunderstood each other and became enemies. Startled awake in the middle of the night, the dream frightened her so much that couldn’t fall back asleep and lay awake until dawn.
Lu Yaoyao was listless when he woke up the next day. Wen Zixing and the others thought she was still brooding over her defeat yesterday and tried to comfort her. Lu Yaoyao was very touched, “I had a nightmare last night that scared me.” She explained.
“What kind of nightmare?” Wen Zixing asked curiously.
Lu Yaoyao couldn’t tell them.
“Don’t worry, it will be okay,” Chao Muxue patted her reassuringly. “Dreams are the opposite of reality.”
Lu Yaoyao felt much better and nodded vigorously, “Yes!” With her around, Father and Daddy would never come to that!
She cheered up, “I still want to continue challenging!” After yesterday’s match, she hadn’t had time to sign for more challenges. The group quickly went to the stone pillar. Lu Yaoyao scanned over the ranking list, weighing her choices. This time, she was more cautious.
Lu Yaoyao looked at which disciples ahead of her in the rankings were available to challenge and recalled the matches she had watched. Thankfully, she now had some understanding of the strength of the higher-ranked senior brothers and sisters.”
Wen Zixing suggested, “Yaoyao, how about choosing someone ranked between 90 and 100? With your ability, you can definitely win. We just need to secure a spot to enter the secret realm.”
Chao Muxue added, “Actually, aiming for the top 150 is a safe bet.” Many of the higher-ranked disciples were over a hundred years old and would be disqualified from entering the secret realm, allowing the ranks to shift. Hence, the competition between the 100th and 200th ranks was fiercest, with many challengers lined up.
The top 100 disciples were the elite among elites. Aside from a few trying to break in, most changes occurred amongst the top 100 themselves. The closer to the top, the more careful one had to be, at least to ensure a spot in the secret realm.
Even though her match with the second-ranked Yu Zining ended up with her defeat, Lu Yaoyao had gained a better understanding of her own strength. She might not be able to defeat the second or third rank, but she should have a good chance with the sixth rank and below.
In the end, she decided to challenge the tenth rank. Several challengers had lined up for the top ten ranks, with only the tenth currently open for challenge. Lu Yaoyao didn’t hesitate and quickly signed up.
Today was the fifth day; as the tournament neared its end, the disciples were eager to improve their ranks. Du Qianshan had already secured a spot in the 700s, while Wen Zixing and Chao Muxue progressed steadily, climbing five to ten ranks a day, striving for the best ranking possible. As for Lu Yaoyao, she challenged the tenth rank and won!
At the end of her match, all the disciples cheered for her.
…
As the tournament drew to a close, although Lu Yaoyao no longer saw him again, Lu Qingyu actually remained at the snowy Extreme Peak of Guiyuan Sect. He had brazenly occupied Yao Jiuxiao’s small wooden hut, casually sipping his rival’s tea as he watched the tournament in a leisurely manner.
Yao Jiuxiao sat nearby with his eyes closed, meditating.
Lu Qingyu commented idly, “Your sect has been the same for hundreds of years, so boring.”
