Once Lu Yaoyao and her friends made the decision to go out for training, they wasted no time to sort out their plans. There wasn’t much to prepare; as long as their respective masters and sect leader approved, they could leave at any time.
Although the elders were not entirely at ease, they understood that sheltering the young ones under their wings constantly would do more harm than good—only through facing hardships could the disciples truly develop. Thus, Lu Yaoyao’s group was allowed to leave. However, even after granting permission, the still-worried elders equipped them with plenty of life-saving tools.
Last time, assuming they were just exploring nearby, they hadn’t been given extra protection. Unexpectedly, they ended up meeting danger so close by, so the elders didn’t take any chances this time. Lu Yaoyao received various life-saving artifacts from her master, senior brothers, martial uncle, and Brother Junyang. Wen Zixing and the others also received similar items from their respective masters, enough to ensure their survival and escape even against Nascent Soul stage cultivators.
Even so, Lu Yaoyao still didn’t feel at ease. Concerned for her friends, she specifically asked her Father for a few attack talismans. These contained one of his killing moves, and breaking the talisman would unleash an attack capable of obliterating any cultivator below the Great Ascension stage. This was their ultimate trump card, and Wen Zixing and the others promised to use the talismans only in life-and-death situations.
Worried about the devils still wreaking havoc in the Cultivation Realm, Lu Yaoyao tried to inquire about the situation from her Father and Daddy again. They were the most powerful people in the world and surely knew much more than she did, and yet, they evaded her question and just told her not to worry about it. Their secretive behavior made Lu Yaoyao fume—since Father and Daddy didn’t want to tell her, she would find out herself! If she encountered any rogue devils during this trip, she would capture them for questioning!
And so, ready to depart, Lu Yaoyao’s group went to the mission hall to select a mission. They were taking only a single mission this time, which happened to be a support mission for investigating unusual activity in the Yanhuo Mountain. A small sect nearby failed to find the cause of the abnormality during the investigation, so they specifically sought support from the Guiyuan Sect.
This support mission was considered urgent. When Lu Yaoyao and her friends arrived at the mission hall, the mission had just been posted on the wall, so they immediately took it. After accepting the mission, they took a day off and started preparing for the trip to Yanhuo Mountain.
Throughout the day, Lu Yaoyao stayed in her pavilion, resting. The incident at Cold Mountain Forest seemed to have scared her four senior brothers, as they came visiting one after another to shower her with more life-saving medicines and artifacts. Still not feeling at ease, they also took turns sharing their experiences, making sure to teach her as much as possible.
Lu Yaoyao listened attentively. Thanks to the crash course from her senior brother, she felt like she had been raised to a higher level. Although she still has little practical experience, her theoretical knowledge is much richer now!
That evening, the always elusive Lu Qingyu suddenly appeared. “Daddy, are you here to see me off?” Lu Yaoyao was very happy to see him.
Lu Qingyu chuckled.
Lu Yaoyao smiled sweetly, “I’m so happy! I’m really, really happy! Daddy, you’re the best. You’re the bestest daddy in the whole world!”
Lu Qingyu tapped her forehead with his fingertip, “Since I’m so good, shouldn’t you come back with me?”
“???” Lu Yaoyao blinked. Back? Back where?
But she soon realized what he meant, “Daddy, I’m about to go on a mission! We’ve already accepted the mission and everything is arranged. We’re leaving tomorrow… If I go back with you, I’d be breaking my promise to my friends!” She lifted her head and said earnestly, “Do you want a daughter who doesn’t keep her word?”
“We devils don’t care about honesty,” Lu Qingyu replied nonchalantly.
“…” She twiddled her fingers, “But I want to be an honest devil!”
Lu Qingyu scoffed, not hiding his displeasure, “We had agreed that you would spend some time here and some time in the Devil Realm. You’ve been out here for over three years now and haven’t returned even once.”
Lu Qingyu felt he was being reasonable here—he had let her stay under Yao Jiuxiao’s watch for three years without taking her back, hadn’t he? Now it was time to make it fair. For as long as she had stayed in the Cultivation Realm, she must spend an equal amount of time in the Devil Ream.
Lu Yaoyao spoke honestly, “But I prefer it here in Cultivation Realm! Here, there’s the rising sun, the setting moon, the changing seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, and I have many friends…”
Seeing Lu Qingyu’s expression grow more and more dangerous, she quickly added, “Of course, the Devil Realm is also very beautiful. It has unique scenery and its own charm. But the sky is always gray, and the devils are very hierarchical… I don’t even have any playmates…”
Lu Yaoyao sighed in melancholy. She had stayed in the Devil Realm for half a year without making a single good friend. The only people she was close to, apart from her Daddy, were her maids and guards, who treated her with warmth and respect but still strictly adhered to hierarchy. It was different here. In the Cultivation Realm, her identity as the Dao Venerable’s daughter attracted countless attention, but there was no sense of hierarchy in their interactions—everyone treated her as an equal.
She liked everyone in the Guiyuan Sect and was fond of its environment—with colorful mountains, rivers, flowers, and trees. She learned a lot here and was reluctant to leave, but she also wanted to be with her Daddy.
After thinking for a moment, Lu Yaoyao suggested, “Daddy, why don’t you stay in Guiyuan? There are no outsiders in East Ninth Peak, so no one would find out if you stayed there…”
Lu Qingyu snorted coldly, “Why don’t you tell Yao Jiuxiao to move to the Devil Palace?” Why should he accommodate that guy!
“Oh?” Lu Yaoyao’s eyes lit up, “That works too! When I go back to the Devil Palace, Father can come with me!” That way, she could be with both her Father and Daddy all the time!
“Kid, stop daydreaming.” Lu Qingyu flicked her forehead.
Lu Yaoyao protested, “Daddy, stop flicking my head! You’re going to make me stupid!”
“So what? You’re already stupid.”
Lu Yaoyao glared, “Is that a proper way to talk about your daughter? I’m not stupid, I’m very smart!” She proudly puffed up her small chest, looking quite pleased with herself.
Lu Qingyu sneered, “You think you are as smart as me?”
“Of course! Like daddy, like daughter!” Lu Yaoyao retorted, “Anyway, Daddy, please wait for a while. I have a lot to do. How will I explain to my friends if I’m returning to the Devil Realm now? I promise I’ll go back eventually!”
“Besides,” Lu Yaoyao grabbed onto Lu Qingyu’s leg and looked up at him, “if you’re in the Cultivation Realm and I go back, I won’t be able to see you!”
Lu Qingyu responded coolly, “I’m planning to return to the palace.”
Lu Yaoyao’s eyes lit up, “Daddy, have you found out the truth?” She was sure that one of the main reasons Daddy came to the Cultivation Realm was to investigate the recent unrest between the two realms. Knowing how incredible her Daddy was, she was certain that he would eventually discover the truth!
“Is it really the demon clan behind this?” Lu Yaoyao asked again.
Lu Qingyu patted her head, “Enjoy your time here, but don’t forget your way home.”
With that, he left, leaving Lu Yaoyao staring at his disappearing figure, puffing her cheeks in frustration.
Daddy’s avoiding answering her again!
But their avoidance left her feeling anxious. Could it be that Father and Daddy still hadn’t found it out?
So much time has passed. If even her powerful Father and Daddy hadn’t discovered the truth, there were only two possibilities: either the conflicts of the past few years were solely between humans and devils—without manipulations from a third party, or there was a hidden mastermind powerful enough to evade detection by the two Venerables…
Neither of the possibilities was for Lu Yaoyao’s liking. Perhaps Xingxing was overthinking it… Lu Yaoyao pondered for a moment, then buried the matter in her heart. Let’s forget it for now. Regardless of the truth, since both her Father and Daddy had taken notice, they would not let the situation deteriorate further. As long as it was promptly contained, any conspiracy or scheme, regardless of the mastermind, was doomed to fail.
