DDDV Ch 73 Part 3 – After So Long, He Still Hasn’t Made Progress (III)

There was an extreme cold peak in Guiyuan Sect where the ice and snow never melted for thousands of years, making the temperature there very low. The peak was cold enough that even cultivators, who were supposed to be immune to the change in temperature, would feel cold there. For this reason, almost no one in Guiyuan Sect liked to come here of their own volition except when they were getting punishment. And even those who were receiving punishment only came as far as the ice chamber on the mountainside because a barrier was erected on the peak, keeping unauthorized people from climbing higher.

At the very top of the extreme cold peak was where Dao Venerable Hengwu of Guiyuan Sect, the strongest person in the Cultivation Realm, usually cultivated in seclusion. Dao Venerable Hengwu’s spiritual vein was a mutated thunder vein, but his sword aura was extremely cold, as if his entire body exuded cold air all the time.

At this time, Yao Jiuxiao was at the practice field specially built on the peak, practicing swordsmanship without distraction. His moves were graceful and elegant. At first, he looked slow enough, but a closer observation would tell that it was impossible to see where his sword would move or land.

After an incense stick of time, Yao Jiuxiao stopped. The moment he turned around, the sword in his hand disappeared.

“Senior Brother’s sword is even more refined than before.” A deep middle-aged male voice suddenly sounded, and a man dressed in the attire of the Guiyuan Sect Leader walked towards Yao Jiuxiao.

Yao Jiuxiao didn’t pay attention to the man and walked into the wooden cabin right by the practice field. The interior of the cabin looked to be sparsely furnished, but everything was actually made of rare and precious materials. Yao Jiuxiao then proceeded to sit cross-legged on a cushion, facing a tea table with a tea set on top.

Lu Chongyun didn’t seem to mind being ignored so thoroughly. He casually followed the latter inside, sat at the opposite side of the table, and slowly began to make tea.

Yao Jiuxiao was Dao Venerable of the human race and also the senior brother of the Guiyuan Sect Leader, so the sect naturally spared no expense and only provided him with the best in everything. Even Lu Chongyun couldn’t help but sigh, because his treatment was not as good as Yao Jiuxiao’s. However, his senior brother didn’t like to use these things, so in the end, he was the one who enjoyed the benefit.

In no time, the room was filled with the relaxing aroma of tea. After Lu Chongyun made the tea, he poured a cup for Yao Jiuxiao before pouring another for himself to enjoy.

Yao Jiuxiao glanced down at the teacup in front of him and took a sip after a while. Lu Chongyun almost lost his composure; why did his senior brother suddenly feel interested in tasting tea? This certainly was not his imagination — recently, he found that his senior brother was more human than before. What actually happened during the sixteen years of Senior Brother’s absence?

However, Lu Chongyun knew that his curiosity wouldn’t be answered, so he didn’t even bother to ask.

“Senior brother.” Lu Chongyun looked at Yao Jiuxiao and finally couldn’t help but say, “What on earth are you thinking?”

Yao Jiuxiao finally raised his eyes and gave Lu Chongyun a glance, but still said nothing. These two were a senior brother and a junior brother, but looking at their appearance alone, they seemed to be a generation apart. Lu Chongyun’s cultivation base was not as high as Yao Jiuxiao’s, nor did he have his senior brother’s talent. More than a thousand years had passed in an instant, during which Lu Chongyun’s appearance gradually aged. Now, he looked to be in his middle age.

As for Yao Jiuxiao, the years had not left traces on him, and both his body and appearance always stayed at their peak.

“The devil race has never given up their ambition of invading the human race, and the demon race also regards the Cultivation Realm as a piece of fat meat and covets it. If we don’t fight back, won’t we make them look down on us?”

Although Lu Chongyun initially did not agree to initiate another great war, he also didn’t like how the Cultivation Realm was so blatantly bullied by the other two races of devil and demon. The devil army had stationed themselves on the realms’ border while the demon race had been eyeing the situation. But after Yao Jiuxiao returned, he didn’t make any counterattacks and simply let the other two races retreat silently.

Lu Chongyun was unwilling. Between the devil race and the demon race, he hated the devil race the most, because his loved ones all died in the hands of devils.

The almost four hundred years of peace did not make him let go of the hatred in his heart. Even if he couldn’t possibly exterminate all the devils, at least he could teach them a small lesson, right?

Yao Jiuxiao put down the cup, making a light thud on the table. He then looked straight at Lu Chongyun and said sternly, “When dealing with fellow humans, you represent the Guiyuan Sect, and when dealing with other races, you represent the Cultivation Realm. How can you make such a self-willed remark?”

Lu Chongyun’s shuddered, and he instantly seemed to return to a thousand years ago, when he was just a child and being reprimanded by his senior brother.

“Always see the overall situation when it comes to cardinal issues of right and wrong… every decision you make affects the whole sect and even the Cultivation Realm. You have been the sect leader for so many years. Do you still need me to teach you this basic thing?”

Lu Chongyun was admonished to the point of being drenched in sweat.

“I didn’t mean to start a war between the Three Realms.” He just wanted his senior brother to come forward to give the devils and demons a shock.

During the great war that lasted for hundreds of years, none of the three races emerged without tremendous casualties. For example, Yao Jiuxiao and Lu Chongyun were the only two left in their generation, as the rest perished during the war.

“What kind of person do you think he is? If we dare to kill to make an example, he will dare to tear the peace treaty and lead his devil army to wage war against us. When the war started, countless people would be displaced, many families would be separated, and many others would lose their lives. Is this what you want to see? ”

Lu Chongyun lowered his head, clenched his fists, and gritted his teeth. After a moment, he yelled, “But I’m not reconciled!”

Why?! His father, his elder sister… they were all gone, but the culprit was still alive and well.

“They don’t want you to live in hatred. You shouldn’t carry those grudges on your back for so long.” Yao Jiuxiao frowned. The tragedy at that time had become Lu Chongyun’s heart demon. So many years had passed, yet he still couldn’t get out of his hatred.

When those things happened, Lu Chongyun was just a young child. His heart was pure and simple, until his family left him one by one. Since then, even under Yao Jiuxiao’s careful watch, Lu Chongyun’s heart gradually changed.

Guiyuan Sect’s abundant resources were enough to support Lu Chongyun’s progress in cultivation, not to mention Yao Jiuxiao’s personal tutelage. Yet, Lu Chongyun had not made any progress in these years, and the main reason was his inability to overcome his heart demon.

“Chongyun, you have been stranded.”

Lu Chongyun gritted his teeth again. His eyes were red as he confronted Yao Jiuxiao, “How can I let go?”

“The things that transpired back then cannot be explained in a simple black and white. There is no way to tell who is right or wrong. What you see and believe may not be the whole truth.”

“But they are all dead, and he is alive and well.”

Yao Jiuxiao knew who the ‘they’ and ‘he’ Lu Chongyun was referring to and sighed inwardly.

Lu Chongyun failed to get an answer from Yao Jiuxiao, but received an admonishment instead. “I won’t give up.” Leaving this one sentence, he finally left.

Yao Jiuxiao sat for a while, then stood up and walked to the door. Staring into the tranquil spread of plain whiteness, the restlessness in his heart slowly calmed down.

“After so long, he still hasn’t made progress.” A lazy voice suddenly sounded from behind.

Yao Jiuxiao frowned and turned around.

A slender-looking man was sitting casually on the cushion. The bright red clothes he wore were extremely conspicuous, creating a stark contrast in the plain white environment.

I realized most xianxia dramas with gods have white everywhere. From the ceiling to the floor to the people. So white like a bunch of curtains
