Cheng Yujin’s cough was not small. She didn’t care who handed her the cup and quickly drink the tea to soothe her throat.

It was really annoying to bite ginger while eating, but even more hateful was that gingers resembled normal sliced vegetables. Cheng Yujin didn’t pay attention for a while, and was caught off guard.

When she finally calmed down, she noticed the slender hand that gave her the teacup. Although the hand was elegant and beautiful, it obviously wasn’t a woman’s hand.

Her heart immediately jumped with a ‘thud’. Sure enough, Cheng Yuanjing’s voice sounded from next to her ear: “Calmed down?”

Cheng Yujin noticed that Cheng Yuanjing was still holding her arm. His hand was extremely steady. Although the weight of Cheng Yujin’s body was pressing his wrist, his hand was unmoved.

Cheng Yujin was extremely embarrassed. Accidentally eating ginger on the dining table was embarrassing enough, not to mention in front of the crown prince. Cheng Yujin was already thankful if His Highness didn’t blame her for being mannerless. But unexpectedly, he even helped her drinking tea.

For a crown prince, isn’t it a bit too friendly?

No matter how embarrassed she was, in front of many people, Cheng Yujin had to maintain her dignity. Cheng Yujin raised her head. No embarrassment could be seen on her face. But because of the previous incident, her eyes were still wet with remaining tears.

“Grandmother, this granddaughter has been rude. Please forgive me.”

Old Madam Cheng waved her hand: “It’s alright if you’re fine.”

Cheng Yujin pretended to be calm and nodded solemnly. Only then did she realize that everyone at the dining table was staring motionlessly at her.

To be precise, they were not looking at Cheng Yujin alone. But at Cheng Yujin…and Cheng Yuanjing next to her.

Cheng Yujin turned her head calmly and pulled out her arm from Cheng Yuanjing’s hand. Cheng Yuanjing didn’t seem to care at all. He poured another cup of tea for her, and then used the chopsticks to take the dish Cheng Yujin was going to eat just now: “Be careful when eating.”

His tone was too casual, so Cheng Yujin let go of her cautiousness and complained naturally: “It’s not my fault. The ginger looks so similar.”

“Yes, it’s not your fault. Next time, I will tell the kitchen not to put any ginger.”

The two talked with each other, completely regarding other people around like nothing. But the onlookers were shocked. Ruan-shi was originally looking forward to seeing Huo Changyuan showed his affection for her daughter. However, Cheng Yumo wanted Huo Changyuan to pick her a dish, but Huo Changyuan hesitated. Instead, Cheng Yuanjing gave Cheng Yujin tea and picked a dish for her, which was an exemplary model.

No, it’s not right—Ruan-shi immediately reacted. What a model, what exemplary? Cheng Yuanjing and Cheng Yujin were uncle and niece, not husband and wife. How could they be compared with Mo’er and her husband?

In her previous life, Cheng Yumo could only watch Huo Changyuan treated Cheng Yujin pamperingly. But she never expected that after she changed into a new life, on the same occasion, their position still didn’t change, and Cheng Yujin still had it better than herself.

Cheng Yumo’s expression instantly turned sour, and she became more dissatisfied with Huo Changyuan’s indifference. She turned around and said to Huo Changyuan: “No, I just want to eat fish.”

In front of so many people, Huo Changyuan felt very embarrassed. Especially….He quietly glanced at Cheng Yujin. Somehow, for Cheng Yumo to make such a gesture in front of Cheng Yujin, Huo Changyuan felt guilty and embarrassed.

However, Cheng Yujin was talking with Cheng Yuanjing and didn’t pay attention to their surroundings. The two sat next to each other, talking with a low voice without glancing at Huo Changyuan at all. Both Cheng Yuanjing and Cheng Yujin had stunning and exquisite looks. Each of them was good-looking, and when they were put together side by side, the scene was even more beautiful than a famous painting.

Cheng Yujin’s mannerism was exceptionally good. Anyone with a slightly worse manner would be publicly shamed by sitting next to Cheng Yujin. However, this wasn’t the case with Cheng Yuanjing. On the contrary, he was totally at ease. His mannerism and etiquette were naturally graceful from inside out, as if he was born with it. Having them sitting together was very pleasing to the onlooker’s eyes.

Cheng Yumo and Huo Changyuan’s inappropriate farce didn’t even arouse Cheng Yujin’s attention. There was a sense of loss in Huo Changyuan’s heart. Cheng Yumo, however, was still persistently urging him from the side.

Huo Changyuan endured his impatience and took a piece of fish for Cheng Yumo. His action was reluctant and unwilling, totally incomparable to Cheng Yuanjing’s meticulous care just now.

Huo Changyuan was reluctant and impatient, so he naturally wasn’t attentive or considerate, and forgot to avoid fishbone. Cheng Yumo lowered her head and saw many tiny fishbones on the piece Huo Changyuan just put on her bowl. Cheng Yumo was a little angry. When Huo Changyuan took fish for her in her previous life, he carefully avoided the bony parts and chose the most delicious piece for her. Why wasn’t he as meticulous today? Even his movement was so careless, as if he was being forced.

Anger surged in Cheng Yumo’s heart, followed by a wave of grievances. These grievances came rushed and fast. Cheng Yumo remembered her mother-in-law, who gave her a dirty look on the morning of the tea ceremony1, Jingyong Marquis Manor’s servants who tried to take advantage of her ignorance, and even Huo Changyuan’s servant girl, who secretly put on the air with her in private. Tears instantly came to Cheng Yumo’s eyes.

Obviously, everything was back on track. Obviously, she and Brother Changyuan was a loving couple, and she should be harmonious with her mother-in-law. Why was everything so different from what she imagined?

  1. Bride’s tea ceremony: The next morning after the wedding, a new bride would be introduced to her husband’s whole family, and has to offer tea to elders-in-law.

  1. Huo Changyuan’s mother is one of those women who keep a death grip on their sons even after the sons’ marriage. Even Yujin had it tough with such a hostile and meddling mother-in-law, let alone Yumo, who’s spoiled, unskilled in managing the household and frankly, narrow-minded.
Thank you for the mass release <3

    1. I think there’s more into it.

As Yujin recalled, Huo Xue-shi thought (previous life) that she had seduced her son by warming him up and breaking the skin-ship taboo for maidens, hence she might be a vixen of questionable morals. Then, when the Marquees married Yumo, it was after that vixen had died and the Marquees and Yumo had played some scenes of running away and chasing. It is weird that Huo-shi didn’t treat her as Yujin, nor asked her to be as filial as her deceased elder sister, but Yujin already suspects the Huo family might know their relationship to the now returned crown prince.

It is weird that Yumo remembers she didn’t last enough, that she soon died of some “infectuos disease”.

Also, we can’t know whether Huo Xue-shi also knew Yumo seduced her sister’s husband while the latest was pregnant, perhaps she considered her too shameless to care, so she only reminded her once in a while that she wasn’t as good as her deceased sister on her duties.

      1. From MC’s deduction, Huo Shi might have been treating Yumo better because when she married, the ML was already the crown prince. The Chen family grace to the crown prince was like an open secret to the upper class, so this Huo guy might have said something to his mother and that’s why she’s much more tame when it Yumo turn.

      2. It’s more to do with the fact that Yujin softened up the MIL and paved the way for Yumo.
Yujin noticed MIL’s possessiveness of the son and resentment towards the son’s wife so she took measures to distance herself from the marquis. This made the MIL bit happier and eventually she became a little less possessive and so when Yumo married in, MIL was already used to sharing her son with the DIL.
But Yumo so dumb she never realises this.

  2. okay but this yumo is really dumb. like literally dumb and insensitive. yucksss she can’t even acting like a noble woman. just grrrrr plain dumb. she tries so hard to be a pheonix but she doesn’t even realize she’s just a chicken. dream so high that you’ll fall hard too. yikess.

  3. Thanks for the chapters! ♥️
I know people that are just like Chen Yumo, jealous and envious of other people and that blame everyone but themselves. Truly disgusting.

  4. Oh Yumo, you’re never gonna be happy.

And congratulations to the harmonious couple, Jin’er and Jing’er ❣️

    1. I’m appalled by how ignorant and clueless Cheng Yumo is. I really want to read a chapter where Cheng Yuanjing severely rebuked her sister’s ignorance and that she will point out that CY is just plain dumb, trying to be a phoenix that will soar to the sky. Obviously her past life path was paved for her already and that she was compared to CYJ that’s why there was a stark contrast, and they suffered hardships together and that he is considerate to her.

In short, I’m very infuriated with Cheng Yumo ah, she’s so dumb. Always comparing herself to her sister.

  5. She still didn’t realise that her previous life’s success was build on Yujin’s ‘villainess’ role
Withought a stepping stole like Yujin all Yumo’s intellect is capable of is showing her temper and crying pitifully

  6. If Jin’er and Ah Jing are that good now, when they finally get married wouldn’t they be like a old couple?
I won’t lose my time with Cheng Yumo anymore.
    Thanks for the chapter!!!!

    1. The only problem is they are gonna have to get through the swamp that is considered “Uncle and Neice” first. 😆

  7. The saddest thing is that Yumo adamantly refuses to ever acknowledge her own faults and to assume responsibility for her actions. Clearly everything was her own doing and she’s reaping what she sowed. Well, right now Yujin is not even giving her and Changyuan the time of the day. What excuse will she find now for her unhappiness? Who will Yumo blame everything to now?

And she’s actually going to cry right there and then? Over something so trivial? She was the one in the wrong for not taking her husband’s feelings into consideration and only caring about her wants. She’s only going to make her husband colder towards her for embarrassing him, and her family won’t want her to visit them from the sour memory.

But it was so nice seeing how Jing is already treating her so well. He’ll be known as an Emperor who treats his Empress well <3 Aaah, he hasn't even left their house yet, but I'm already sad he'll be parting. Jing, please don't take too long to return and ask for her hand with pomp and circumstance :3

  8. Ugh. This couple totally deserve each other. Yumo doesn’t understand why she had it easy in her last life. She keeps on focusing on things that she didn’t have instead of the things she was able to get. She’ll never be happy with that mindset.

  9. Kitten who changed to Face-con

That is why you should never want other people thing
Cause not everything is perfect as it seems

  10. I love all the characters “…. hey wait a minute” moments when they remember that the two are niece and uncle rather than a married couple lol

  11. Yumi seems so…lazy. She is assuming she should have the kind of relationship with her husband that took decades to build instantly, three days into their marriage. She just sits there and feels sorry for herself instead of doing any work.

  12. Man this Yumo really! Ughh!! My heart and I love that HC is still pining over CJ.. it soothes my vengeful heart.. Thanks for the hard work!!

  13. She really was so self absorbed in her own “pain” and “misery” that she didn’t notice anything else. I can excuse the whole crown prince thing since she never really interacted with him. However, she should at least realize that there’s a reason why she keeps being over shadowed by her sister. Also, she should’ve been taking active steps to improve herself but she never did and only blamed her sister for…being better than her…??? Okay. Idk about you guys, but if there was someone I saw as a rival, I would be doing everything within my power to improve myself.

  14. What miss Yumo fails to realize (because it undermines her ‘skills’) is that she entered a home that was already cleaned up for her, Yujin already cleared up the women beside the ML most likely, as well as whipped the maids into shape. And as for the treatment from her mother in law, just in the other chapter she didn’t pay mind to the servants in the last life telling her how the MIL treated Yujin, and now that she’s experiencing it…. Lmfao

  15. I don’t pity her at all. She always blame MC for taking everything that belongs to her. In fact, I think it’s the opposite. She has been taking everything from MC. Since the previous life, MC has been the one receiving the consequences of her actions and then she reap the rewards. It’s just that the MC was really good so she didn’t go down silently.

  16. Like mother like daughter, really cannot be showed in public. I can’t undersrand why Yumo , who is mentally in middle 20s, still acts like spoiled teenager. But, looking at Ruan shi, I dont have any questions.
And , my biggest question: why should you take the same rout and pick the same man? Try another one, you are lucky to have this opportunity.

  17. Omg can relate. Especially when the cooks for some reason take similar colored ingredients like potatoes and cut it the same way as they do with ginger, it’s like playing Russian roulette with your own pallette.
