THDP Ch 167 Part 1 – Seven Kills and Seven Emotions (I)

At that moment, in the Ten Absolutes Mountain, on a distant green mountain by the cliff, the man who had been sitting cross-legged withdrew one leg, his face still lazily smiling. His youthful, handsome face bore eyes that seemed full of the vicissitudes of life, now glinting with a hint of amused interest. “They actually found the Seven Emotions Flower. Tsk, tsk…”

Behind him, the white-haired man chuckled lightly with pride. “I told you, since Xiao Yan chose her, she must have something extraordinary.”

“But what good is it to find the Seven Emotions Flower?” The small sword hovering beside the man at the cliff edge flew even faster, like a shooting star, occasionally shedding points of starlight. “Barely able to stay conscious, the people they can use are…”

He started counting on his fingers, “That little girl, then the little red fox counts as one, a medical cultivator… tsk tsk.” The man’s eyes suddenly brightened, “And that little sword cultivator with her. This kid is not bad.”

“Even counting that youngling who refined the crescent moon, they’re still not enough.”

“Seven people…” The sword cultivator looked somewhat proud and even felt a bit schadenfreude, “Enough to give them a headache.”

“Smack!” The back of his head was suddenly slapped hard. “Shut up!” A woman in red walked to the cliff edge, gazing into the distance. “Humph! If she can’t gather seven people, you go and make up the number!” She unreasonably demanded, “Or I’ll push you off the cliff.”

Although she said this, the woman in red still seemed a bit worried. “That little white tiger hasn’t moved at all. He…” She bit her lip lightly, her eyes shifting. “Even if his cultivation is suppressed, he should have noticed it.”

“Him, huh…” the sword cultivator man said with a sly grin, “He’s indeed very strong, but there’s a saying, ‘Caring too much leads to confusion.’ And another saying…”

“Smack!”

“Ouch!” His head took another slap from the woman, but he wasn’t angry. Instead, he laughed and said, “Your actions just show that you’re also nervous. After all, you saw it back then, strong as Xiao Yan…”

“Smack!”

“Hey, hey, hey! You’re too much! I’m getting mad here!”

“You should talk less!” The white-haired man gave the sword cultivator a stern look, then comforted the woman in red, “Don’t listen to his nonsense. Look at where that little white tiger is standing.” As he pointed in the distance, and the clouds on the mountain peak seemed to receive a command, quickly parting to reveal the white-robed Yun Qingyan, standing still and majestic.

The woman’s eyes lit up. Even the lazy sword cultivator at the cliff edge straightened slightly, his expression becoming much more serious. He focused intently on Yun Qingyan, then suddenly shivered, his body trembling lightly. “He…”

The man licked his lips, which had become dry from the mountain wind, and murmured, “Just now… was he looking at us?”

Meng Qi stood on the city wall, holding her medical knife horizontally in her right hand, eyes gazing into the sky. There, Pei Mufeng’s long sword shone like the brightest star, cutting through the air. Four other long swords were also present in mid-air. Their sword lights were restrained, and they attacked Pei Mufeng from four different directions.

Those four swords didn’t seem particularly impressive at first glance. However, Meng Qi, with her keen eyesight, could see simple yet peculiar patterns engraved on their hilts. The four swords were not fighting individually; instead, they seemed to form a sword array, working together in attack and defense, creating a seamless choreography.

Meng Qi knew little about swordsmanship. None of the five swords showcased particularly fancy movements, instead relying on broad and sweeping strokes. She could vaguely discern that if there was only one sword against Pei Mufeng, it wouldn’t be his match. But with all four swords working together, forming a cohesive unit, Pei Mufeng’s sword was being suppressed.

Is it really a sword array? Meng Qi focused her gaze on the sword attacking from the east. This sword was slightly wider and longer, exuding a more dominant aura compared to the other three. As far as she could tell, this sword was primarily for offensive attacks, and the moves were not very varied. Meng Qi watched for a while and roughly grasped the patterns of this sword.

She then shifted her gaze to the second sword. This sword came from the north, shorter but wider and thicker, appearing very sturdy. This sword was mainly for defense. Its moves were equally simple, but whenever Pei Mufeng’s sword was about to strike the other three swords, this one would rush to block the attack. Despite looking quite broad and heavy, it was surprisingly very nimble.

Meng Qi then examined the last two swords. Coming from the west and south respectively, they looked almost identical, very agile, always hovering above the other two swords. Whenever Pei Mufeng showed the slightest opening, these twin swords would swiftly attack his weakness, like two starving beasts pouncing on a prey.

The four swords seemed to be coordinating, each with its role in attack and defense, but the primary attack was led by the sword coming from the east. Meng Qi was confident that Pei Mufeng could see this too. His natal sword gleamed with cold light, every strike aimed at the eastern sword. However, the coordinated defense and attack of the four swords always allowed the eastern sword to evade Pei Mufeng’s strikes with the help of the other three. Sometimes it even attacked from completely unexpected angles, with tricky and unexpected trajectories.

As expected, it’s a sword array! Meng Qi watched for a while longer and became increasingly certain. She suddenly took out a few spirit stones and tossed them into the sky. The spirit stones drew a bright arc through the air, not with a fast speed but with great precision. With a clang, the spirit stones collided with the blade of the eastern sword—or rather, it was more precise to say that the eastern sword ran into the stones she had preemptively thrown.

It’s the Four Orders and Four Seasons Array!

As the spirit stones were struck and flew off, Meng Qi became even more certain. This was the Four Orders Four Seasons array, an array she learned from Ji Wujiong. Who knew it could be used in a sword array as well?

While deep in thought, Meng Qi casually tossed another spirit stone. Of course, she didn’t use profound-grade ones, just ordinary third-grade spirit stones. With another clang, the stone was once again struck and sent flying by the sword.

Now Meng Qi had no more doubts—she threw out three more stones in quick succession.

At the same time, Pei Mufeng raised his hand, and his natal sword swiftly followed the direction of the spirit stones thrown by Meng Qi. Pei Mufeng had also realized that while the four swords were peculiar, they were not his match—it was the sword array they formed that gave him a headache. Breaking this unfamiliar array required time and effort. Normally, he would have been interested in testing his sword against this array to see if his sword or the array was stronger.

But now they were in a trap, and every moment was precious. Pei Mufeng suddenly let out a sharp whistle, and his sword instantly turned into a flurry of sword shadows. The sword shadows were exceptionally fast, like countless meteors falling to the ground, attacking the strongest sword in the array.

Clang, clang, clang!! Pei Mufeng’s rapid and unceasing strikes created echoing sounds. Eventually, the strongest sword in the array was driven lower and lower, until it was broken in half, falling to the city wall with two loud clangs.

The other three swords hurriedly came to assist, but it was too late. Pei Mufeng raised his hand lightly, and his sword swiftly rose, sweeping across like a domineering ancient monarch. In a brilliant flash of sword light, the three swords were struck down one after another, falling hard on the city wall.

Meng Qi walked over and picked up the four broken swords. As expected, the hilts were engraved with a few simple patterns: flowers for spring, rain for summer, falling leaves for autumn, and snow for winter. The designs were minimalistic and grand, not recently carved but seemingly aged with centuries of wear.

Meng Qi, an expert in arrays, could tell at a glance that the person who inscribed this Four Orders And Four Seasons array had a higher mastery than Ji Wujiong. Moreover, as a weapon, each of these swords was very high in quality and incredibly agile.

So arrays can be used in this way? Temporarily pushing her curiosity aside, Meng Qi stored the four broken swords in her storage pouch, intending to have Yun Qingyan examine them later. Meanwhile, Pei Mufeng returned to her side, silently watching her store the broken swords.

“Let’s go,” he said after a while.

“Okay.” Meng Qi nodded.
