At first, Meng Qi was cautiously probing. The medical notes Lin Yan had given her floated above her spiritual sea, wrapped in a bundle of spiritual aura, gently drifting. The strand of spiritual sense that Meng Qi had sent out slowly reached toward the floating bamboo slip.
“Ugh—” She suddenly let out a muffled groan, her figure swayed, and she fell backward.
“What’s wrong?” Li Che, who was holding a jade slip and focused on reading it, immediately reached out to support Meng Qi, looking at her worriedly. “Is it not working?”
Meng Qi shook her head, took a deep breath, and steadied herself again, resuming to sitting cross-legged. She hadn’t expected that the medical notes would emit such a tremendous backlash, swatting away her probing spiritual sense in an instant. “This junior meant no offense, Senior,” Meng Qi silently recited in her heart as she looked at the quietly lying Yan Xuan on the ground. “I beg your pardon, for I seek to save my friend’s life.”
This time, she split her spiritual sense into three strands, reaching out toward the medical notes from three different directions. “Please forgive me, Senior,” Meng Qi took another deep breath, and at the spot where her spiritual sense had been swatted away, she suddenly sped up, rushing toward the cocoon-like object floating in her spiritual sea.
“Hm?”
“Meng Qiqi?” Li Che, still holding the jade slip, looked at her with concern. He didn’t know what Meng Qi was trying to do, but he could guess it had something to do with Yan Xuan, and that it was a somewhat dangerous attempt.
“If it’s not working, let’s not force it. We can look at these medical records first. I discovered this one contains some obscure spells from the Demon Realm, which I’ve never heard of before.” Li Che said, raising the jade slip in his hand toward Meng Qi. The jade slip seemed quite aged, its surface smooth and polished from being handled by many.
“I’m fine.” Meng Qi shook her head, still looking a bit dazed. She was already prepared for her spiritual sense to be swatted away by the force of the medical notes again. There was no actual pain, but the spiritual sense of a medical cultivator was always stronger and more sensitive than that of other cultivators. Hence, the feeling of being forcibly swatted away made quite an unpleasant experience.
She hadn’t expected that her second attempt would go so smoothly.
Meng Qi sat upright, her expression becoming solemn. “Thank you, Senior,” she silently repeated in her heart. It was impossible for her spiritual sense to become much stronger all of a sudden—certainly, the medical notes had given her permission to access its content.
The three strands of spiritual sense carefully reached out to the medical notes, and a series of texts suddenly unfolded before Meng Qi’s eyes, swiftly passing by. It was fast enough that she couldn’t make out the rapidly flashing words, only occasionally catching a few characters.
Meng Qi grew anxious—at this rate, she wouldn’t be able to actually read the records.
Suddenly, the swiftly moving text in the medical notes began to slow down. A few lines of delicate writing imprinted themselves in Meng Qi’s vision.
“There is a stone, like a fallen star, born in the extremely cold lakes of the Demon Realm. Together with Spirit Devouring Grass, Evernight Fruit, Five Spirit Flower, and Supreme Profound Wood, it is refined with Cold Spring Dew to obtain Starlight, which can repair the spiritual sea. When refined with Netherworld Thorn and using Nirvana Fruit as a guide, it can restore a shattered inner core.”
“Stardust Stone can only be preserved in extremely cold water. The Demon Realm has the North Sea Lake, the Devil Realm has the Nether River, and the Three Thousand Worlds has the Cold Spring Dew.”
Meng Qi, already sitting cross-legged, suddenly slapped her knee hard. Cold Spring Dew—she had that! She suddenly felt foolish; if Cold Spring Dew could be used to refine Stardust Stone, it could naturally be used to preserve it as well!
“Meng Qiqi?” Li Che looked at Meng Qi in surprise.
“I’m fine.” Meng Qi waved her hand at him, her face slightly flushed.
The text on Lin Yan’s medical notes began to flash rapidly again, swiftly passing before her eyes. She now understood that there were still some contents in the medical notes that she was not yet allowed to see, but what she needed at this moment, she could see.
Sure enough, the rolling text on the medical notes slowed down again, and several lines of text clearly appeared before Meng Qi’s eyes once more.
“Netherworld Thorn is extremely toxic, infecting deep into the spiritual sense and inner core. Those poisoned by it have almost no chance of survival, losing all their cultivation, and there is no cure. However, when refined together with Stardust Stone and guided by Nirvana Fruit, it can repair the inner core.
After this passage, the medical notes slowly closed, finally retracting back into the cocoon made of Meng Qi’s aura, once again floating above her spiritual sea.
Meng Qi rested her chin in her hand, staring blankly ahead.
“How is it, Meng Qiqi?” Li Che asked when he saw her in this state.
“Stardust Stone can be preserved with Cold Spring Dew or directly in Nether River water,” Meng Qi said.
“Huh?” Li Che turned to look at the flowing little stream. “Isn’t this Nether River water?”
“But we don’t have anything to store Nether River water,” Meng Qi said. “However, I do have Cold Spring Dew.” She took out a jade bottle containing the dew from her storage bag. “We can store the Stardust Stone here once we retrieve it.”
“And what about the Netherworld Thorn?” Li Che asked.
“It’s extremely toxic, and the poison erodes the inner core and spiritual sense. There’s no cure,” Meng Qi repeated the passage from the medical notes.
“I see…”
“Anyway, at least we’ve solved one problem for now. We can retrieve the Stardust Stone first,” Meng Qi shrugged with a smile.
As she spoke, she took out her trusted knife and swiftly began drawing on the ground. Wherever her knife slashed, clear lines were left behind, quickly forming an intricate pattern. Even though Li Che had seen this with his own eyes earlier, he couldn’t stop himself from sighing with marvel. To draw such large and complex lines using aura as a blade, ensuring the structure was precise with no mistakes, ultimately forming a perfect array—this wasn’t something that could be done with a strong spiritual sense alone. Recalling the messy lines he had drawn before, Li Che couldn’t help but smile wryly.
In the blink of an eye, Meng Qi had finished the array. As she rose up, her other hand lightly touched her storage bag, retrieving a dozen or so shining spirit stones. Her fingers flicked out, and the stones flew into the array, embedding themselves neatly within it.
“Profound-grade spirit stones?!” Li Che gasped.
What Meng Qi had casually thrown out was a handful of profound-grade spirit stones! He knew, of course, that despite Meng Qi’s plain appearance, always dressed in simple blue robes, she had an abundance of spirit stones. But still—these were profound-grade spirit stones!
The Canglang Academy to which he belonged was a prestigious medical cultivation sect in the Southern Realm and one of the major sects in Three Thousand Worlds. Perhaps his sect couldn’t compare to the like of Feng Alliance, but by no means was it small. Despite that, not even his master—the sect leader of Canglang Academy—could casually produce a dozen profound-grade spirit stones and toss them out like that.
“Yes,” Meng Qi nodded. “This Nether River water is extremely cold and dangerous. My cultivation is too low, so I’m worried that the puppets summoned by the Hundred Ghosts and Hundred Phantoms array won’t last long enough for us to retrieve the Stardust Stone.” As she spoke, she casually pulled Li Che back a few steps.
As the spirit stones settled, the aura from the stones quickly linked with the lines Meng Qi had drawn. The profound-grade spirit stones contained a vast amount of aura, and all of it converged toward the center of the array. Within moments, the whole array started to radiate with brightness, as though a star had been lit at its center.
Li Che had seen arrays activated before, but he couldn’t help but hold his breath, staring unblinkingly at the brilliant star.
The star gradually began to change. First, limbs extended. Then, a small white figure replaced the star. It radiated a bright, dazzling light, bouncing around a few times to loosen its limbs before turning and hopping towards Meng Qi.
Li Che watched, dumbfounded with amazement.
