TGCF Ch 30 Part 1 – Second Aunt’s Past, Moving Preparation (I)

Xia Mian’s scolding was extremely harsh, causing their complexion to change. “Xia Mian, what do you mean by this?! I was helping you out of kindness, and you are insulting me in return?!” Xia Li screamed in anger.

“To hell with your kindness!” Xia Mian roared. As she rushed toward the window, Xiao Feng, being experienced now, quickly scampered to a safe corner, showing no fear. “Do you think I’m a fool who doesn’t see through your family’s dirty schemes?”

Xia Mian picked up the feather duster from the windowsill and pointed it at Second Uncle Xia, “Xia Chengyao! I only treat you politely because you helped a lot with my sister’s matter, but don’t you dare take advantage of me. If you dare to plot against me again, I’ll take back those four buildings next door!”

Second Uncle Xia was instantly enraged, “Those four buildings were bought by me. What right do you have to take them back?”

“You bought them?” Xia Mian laughed angrily, “When my father was sick and had to sell the houses, you sabotaged every potential sale, making it impossible for anyone to buy them. In the end, my father had to sell them to you at a low price to pay for his surgery. Do you have the nerve to call that buying?”

Of course, Second Uncle Xia, being a scoundrel who took advantage of others as naturally as breathing, wouldn’t admit it. And Xia Mian didn’t plan to waste words arguing with him. “I’ll say it outright today! If anyone can drive your family out, I’ll give them these two buildings and the small courtyard for free!”

“Are you crazy?! This courtyard is worth thousands of yuan!” Second Uncle Xia’s face changed dramatically.

“Crazy or not is none of your business,” Xia Mian snorted. “What are a few thousand yuan? As long as I don’t have to see the shameless faces of your family, I’ll be happy to pay!”

“You enjoy stirring up troubles, don’t you? Then I’ll make damn sure you taste your own medicine!”

“How unreasonable can you be?” Second Uncle Xia fumed. Even so, he was probably afraid of provoking Xia Mian too much; after all, since Xia Mian came back from the city, she had become very fierce and always been true to her word. Softening his tone, he resorted to a sincere-sounding persuasion: “Lili really meant well in trying to take you in.”

“Studying is useless nowadays. You should look at those moneyed bosses—how many of them actually went to college? Instead, people with diplomas have to work for them.”

“You aren’t good at studying anyway. If you don’t go out to work and make connections with rich people, by the time you graduate high school, you’ll be older and can only marry someone from the county. Then what will become of you? Doing household chores day in and day out… unlike your cousin Lili, who is already adorned with gold and silver.”

Xia Li puffed out her chest proudly, “Exactly! Even if you go to university, wouldn’t you still have to get married and have children?”

“You really think studying is useless?” Xia Mian sneered, “But I don’t think so. It’s just that you couldn’t study well, so you want to drag others down with you into the gutter.” She glanced at Wang Tao and Brother Zhigang, mocking, “Oh, and pick up men from the gutter too.”

As soon as Xia Mian mentioned them, the two men turned grim. “Xia Mian, what do you mean by that?” Wang Tao said sternly.

“I mean you are trash. Can’t understand that? Or do you think I’m wrong?” Xia Mian sneered and pointed the feather duster at Xia Li and her parents, “Didn’t you ask what use is studying? Let me tell you, studying at least broadens your horizons and prevents you from being easily deceived by men.”

“Take this necklace, for example,” Xia Mian used the feather duster to lift the gold chain around Xia Li’s neck, “This thing isn’t even pure 24k gold. Wasn’t your man supposed to lead a project worth hundreds of thousands? And you’re proud being gifted such a thin chain?”

“It’s like someone giving you one yuan when they had a hundred in their pocket, treating you like a beggar!”

“But it’s not their fault—because you are indeed that cheap.”

“Secondly,” Xia Mian pointed at Wang Tao and sneered, “where did you get the contract for your so-called big project? What’s the project name? Which government unit did you bid for it, and which official do you have contact with?”

Wang Tao and Brother Zhigang were clearly not very eloquent. Faced with Xia Mian’s barrage of questions, they couldn’t answer a single one.

“See? You can only deceive a naïve and uneducated girl like Xia Li.” Xia Mian said, “Who doesn’t know how hard it is to win a project nowadays? If you don’t have a contact in the government, how can you secure a contract worth hundreds of thousands?”

“You probably just work as a small subcontractor, merely taking leftover scraps, and think that having an outdated phone makes you look important?”

Wang Zhigang was about to retort in anger when Xia Mian snapped the feather duster in her hand, glaring with disgust. “And, aren’t you nearly thirty? Are you really unmarried?”

Without waiting for a response, she continued, “If you’re not married by thirty, it means you’re either defective or a pauper. I bet it’s the former since being poor is a matter of circumstances, and a good person would never have trouble getting married.”

“If you are married, then you must be one of those who, after earning a little money, had their ego inflated and go to play around and keep mistresses. I know your kind of person—garbage who learns only bad habits after getting some money, indulging in a full set of drinking, gambling, and whoring.”

“Moreover, Xia Li isn’t even eighteen yet,” Xia Mian pointed at Wang Tao, “This is a crime, you see, called ‘accosting a minor.’ You better not have done anything with her—if I report it to the police, you’ll get at least three years.” She then looked at the second uncle, “There is also a fine and compensation money for the victim. Around a few thousand, at least.”

Second Uncle Xia’s eyes gleamed instinctively, while Xia Li’s face turned pale. “Dad, I’m dating Brother Tao. We are really in love!”

“That doesn’t change the fact that he accosted a minor.” Xia Mian sneered at Wang Tao, whose face had turned beet red. “Come on, tell me. What do you call leftover uneducated bachelors who deceived underage girls? ‘Trash,’ isn’t it? Am I wrong?” She then looked contemptuously at Xia Li, “So, what are you so proud of?”

Xia Li was too embarrassed to speak. Xia Mian pointed at the door, “Since you get it clear, now scram!”

Second Uncle Xia, seeing that they had offended two big bosses, angrily said, “Mianmian, how can you speak like this…”

Before he could finish, a furious female voice yelled, “Xia Chengyao, you son of a bitch!”

Xia Mian froze for a moment as Xia Wenyue stormed in from the door, immediately clawing at Second Uncle Xia. “You’ve ruined me, and now you want to ruin Mianmian too! I’ll kill you today!”

Second Uncle Xia, with a face full of blood, cried out in pain, dodging, “Wenyue, stop! Wenyue!”

“You still dare to call my name?” Xia Wenyue grabbed his hair, scratching and pulling mercilessly. “I don’t care if you ruin your daughter, but if you dare to harm Mianmian, I’ll kill you!”

“I’m not harming her!” Second Uncle Xia hurriedly defended himself. “I’m doing this for her good!”

“For her good, my ass!” Xia Wenyue slapped him hard. “You think I don’t know what’s on your mind!”

“You’re just a selfish bastard!” Xia Wenyue’s eyes reddened as she continued to hit him. “You dare to treat Mianmian the same way you treated me? I’ll skin you alive today!”

When Eldest Uncle Xia and his family—Qiangqiang had hurriedly called them over—entered the door, they saw Wang Tao and Wang Zhigang standing beside Xia Li and immediately understood everything. The usually calm eldest uncle grabbed a broom and started hitting Second Uncle Xia. “You beast, how dare you! How dare you do such a thing?!”

Translator’s Note:

Hello, everyone! As I explained before, The Healer Demands Payment! is going to enter hiatus. After looking around for replacement and asking for suggestion, most of you suggest I take over abandoned titles, and it just happens that one of my favorite title has been abandoned for a few years now, so I feel comfortable taking it over. Here it is: Wake Up Male Lead, You Belong With The Female Lead!. What I love from this author’s novels are always the dynamics between the main couple and the twist incorporated into the seemingly typical cultivation world settings. Hope you can enjoy it as much as I did!

For this week only, there will be daily updates (5 updates), and then it will follow THDP’s update schedule: Tuesday and Thursday.

Enjoy~
