Spiritual Sea (识海): Also known as the Sea of Consciousness, the Spiritual Sea is the area inside a cultivator’s body that stores the aura absorbed for cultivation. This is also the most private part of cultivators, so allowing access to one’s spiritual sea is the greatest form of trust.

Spiritual Sense: Also known as spiritual consciousness, this is the ‘sixth sense’ cultivator uses to scan their surrounding with their spirit.

Sword Immortal (剑仙) and Sword Monarch (剑君): Within the novel’s universe, once they reach a certain level, cultivators are further distinguished by the strength of their sword intent: Sword Immortal, Great Sword Immortal, and Sword Monarch. Wei Liang is currently one of the few Sword Monarchs, while his seven disciples are all Great Sword Immortals.

Sword of Beloved (剑之娇): The novel which Lin Jiu transmigrated into. A cultivation novel with a female protagonist that depicts the forbidden love between Liu Qingyin and her master, Wei Liang.

Tianyuan Continent (天元大陆): The continent where ‘Sword of Beloved’ takes place.

Time measurement: Hour (shichen) refers to the ancient measurement of an hour, which lasts around two modern hours (120 minutes). One incense stick of time refers to a short time span, generally 15 minutes. One cup of tea refers to the time needed for a cup of tea to cool, around 5 minutes.

Wanjiangui Sect (万剑归宗): Wei Liang’s sect. The term Wanjiangui’s literal translation more or less means ‘unity of ten thousand swords.’ This phrase symbolizes the idea of all swords converging back to their origin, typically referring to ultimate mastery or unity.
