When the red veil was lifted off her face, Lin Jiu was absolutely dumbstruck. The man in front of her had a flawlessly handsome face, his gaze intense, staring at her like a wolf in a hunt. Even without relevant experience, Lin Jiu could tell he wanted to bed her!
For a split second, she thought she had transmigrated into the wrong novel. Shouldn’t the male lead Wei Liang was supposed to be the cold, abstinent type, like an untouchable flower on a lofty peak? Even the female lead, Liu Qingyin, couldn’t pull him down from his icy throne, so how was it possible that such a freezing, statue-like beauty of a man suddenly wanted to ‘devour’ her, a vicious side character?
‘Could it be that this body’s original owner had drugged him?’—but Lin Jiu quickly dismissed the conjecture as soon as it crossed her mind. Given Wei Liang’s level of cultivation, this kind of low-level trick would have no effect on him.
While Wei Liang placed the red veil onto the sandalwood tray beside the bed, Lin Jiu hurriedly recalled the original plot of the novel she had read, and at the same time, reviewed the memories she had received from this body. Comparing the two, she confirmed she hadn’t ended up in the wrong place—this was indeed Sword of Beloved, a female-oriented cultivation novel where she had transmigrated into Lin Qiu, a villainous side character with the most miserable death.
The novel’s story had always been written from the point of view of the female protagonist Liu Qingyin, so there were no details about Wei Liang and Lin Qiu’s bridal chamber scene.
The plot should go like this—Liu Qingyin watched helplessly as the man she loved entered the bridal chamber with another woman. Heartbroken, she rushed to her severely injured, unconscious senior brother to pour out her sorrow, but he ended up dying amid her cry. This senior brother was Wei Liang’s chief disciple, and with his death, he successfully ruined Wei Liang’s bridal night.
‘Nothing should happen between us, right? In the case I’m encountering a hidden plot point…’ Lin Jiu’s mind began to wander wildly, but she immediately returned to her senses, ‘No, no, stop it! Liu Qingyin is the beloved daughter of heaven, so her man… ha! Who dares to sleep with him!’
As she made a slight movement with her stiffened arms, Lin Jiu gave herself a silent encouragement: ‘Don’t panic, stay calm. Just endure for a while longer—Senior Brother is about to die!’
Wei Liang was gently smoothing out the red veil, his back to Lin Jiu, when he suddenly let out a soft chuckle.
Lin Jiu instantly shuddered, feeling goosebumps all over her body.
Wei Liang turned slightly, revealing a part of his handsome face. Every inch of his features seemed to be carved from unblemished cold jade, polished to perfection countless times over, and even the smallest of his movements looked so naturally perfect. But for Lin Jiu, the mesmerizing sight condensed into a single concept—torment.
She nervously eyed the tall figure of the groom. As you might expect from the male lead of a female-oriented novel, Wei Liang’s looks and bearing were naturally unparalleled, and the deep red wedding robes only made him more handsome and captivating. As he came closer, he gently placed his hands on her shoulders, softly pushing her onto the bed.
Wasting no time, he leaned in, the hem of his red robe tracing a sharp arc through the air.
“Wait a moment!” Lin Jiu’s mind snapped back to clarity as her head sank into the soft, golden silk pillow. “I know you don’t want to marry me—I won’t force you!”
At that moment, Wei Liang’s astonishingly handsome face was hovering just above hers, their noses almost touching.
“Who said I don’t want to?”
A whiff of a chilling scent suddenly entered Lin Jiu’s nostrils, reminiscent of the first melt of mountain snow in early spring. The man’s voice was extremely cold, yet the slightest lift at the end gave it an oddly alluring touch, enough to hook a soul.
She hurriedly raised her hand and pushed against his chest. “I’m not worthy! You, Wei Liang, are the leader of the righteous faction, your cultivation is unparalleled. All the major sects and noble families bow to you. And me, Lin Ji—Lin Qiu, is just a useless person who can’t even sense sword intent. We are really, truly not a good match! If you find someone you love, I promise I’ll step aside with no complaint! That’s why we shouldn’t consummate our marriage…”
In that instant, Wei Liang’s eyes darkened abruptly, “Consummate our marriage? Don’t be impatient, my wife. Soon we shall.”
Lin Jiu keenly sensed that at this moment, Wei Liang’s expression truly resembled a wolf—not one in heat, but one that saw her as a delectable prey.
’He’s hunting!’
Her hands, pressed against his chest, were caught easily and pinned onto the soft pillow, while his other hand started undressing her without further ado.
Although the man’s concentrated expression added an extra allure to his already ethereal looks, Lin Jiu felt no trace of desire. According to the plot of the novel, Wei Liang and Liu Qingyin had long been mutually in love. However, in this world, the bond between a master and a disciple was viewed as akin to that of a parent and child, making romantic involvement strictly forbidden.
Being the rigid, pedantic person he was, Wei Liang would never break such taboos, so the one taking the initiative in their relationship had always been Liu Qingyin. This dynamic filled their love story with heart-wrenching angst.
‘Men really are all pigs. They will sleep with anyone they can!’ Lin Jiu was furious. Being someone who couldn’t hold back her words, she blurted out angrily, “You’re truly something! You clearly like Liu Qingyin, so why are you flirting with me?!”
Having removed the outer layer of her garments, Wei Liang’s slender fingers, which were about to reach the inner layer, halted abruptly when Liu Qingyin was brought up.
The air seemed to freeze for a moment, then Lin Jiu saw him lowering his head and releasing a muffled, deep laughter.
When he finished laughing, Wei Liang lifted his head again, his long, deep black eyes fixating on her face. His expression had vanished, and he now looked like a cold jade sculpture again as he slowly parted his well-shaped, thin lips, “If that’s the case, why did you go to such great lengths to marry me?”
Lin Jiu held back her breath, unable to answer his question.
The truth was Wei Liang and Lin Qiu, two beings as different as heaven and earth, had no connection between them. This marriage had come about through sheer manipulation.
Lin Qiu’s father was the head of an inconspicuous small sect in the Dongting region, three thousand miles away. He died in the battle famously known as the ultimate showdown between good and evil. On that day, Wei Liang and the leader of the devil force, the Devil Lord, both unleashed their ultimate moves, crashing into each other in a mutual death blow, creating a shockwave that swept across a thousand miles. The waves claimed the lives of numerous righteous and devil cultivators alike including Lin Qiu’s father.
Afterward, the Devil Lord turned to dust while Wei Liang survived, but with severe injuries. The remaining devil forces became even more frenzied, constantly attacking human territories. Meanwhile, the major human sects were embroiled in conflict over uneven spoils, ignoring the plight of the common folk.
Chaos reigned, and the world was in turmoil.
At this time, Lin Qiu’s mother made her dramatic entrance. She went to the major sects, crying and pleading, saying that Lin Qiu’s father had died taking a blow for Wei Liang, saving him from being destroyed along with the Devil Lord. Since Lin Qiu’s father had saved Wei Liang’s life, Wei Liang now owed the Lin family a great favor. However, their Lin family didn’t ask for much—just that their precious daughter be married to him. If Wei Liang refused, it would mean he was ungrateful and unworthy of leading the righteous faction.
Wei Liang, with the weight of the world on his shoulders, couldn’t afford to retire in such a precarious time. So, he agreed to marry Lin Qiu and brought her back to his sect…
‘With such circumstances, how should Wei Liang feel toward Lin Qiu? Disdain? Disgust? Indifference?’ As Lin Jiu’s thoughts wandered, Wei Liang’s fingers slid from her shoulders, gently peeling away the last layer of her garment. Lin Jiu noticed that his movements carried a strange sense of ritual. Was it her imagination, or was there a glimmer of vengeful pleasure in Wei Liang’s eyes?
This realization sent chills down her spine—‘No, wait, why does the male lead seem like a psychopath?! What happened to his cold and refined persona? He’s nothing but a hypocrite!’
His fingers were cold, probably due to his unhealed injuries. Intentionally or not, that chilly touch grazed Lin Jiu’s collarbone, softly caressing her shoulder as he prepared to remove her last layer of defense.
Suddenly, hurried footsteps approached from afar!
‘It’s happening, it’s happening—the plot’s finally here! The female lead has cried her senior brother to death and is now rushing to inform the male lead! Lin Jiu nearly leaped up in excitement. She grabbed her half-removed inner garment and hastily redressed, making sure to cover her neckline firmly.
“Master—” came a sweet, clear voice from outside the door, clearly belonging to a young woman. “Disciple Liu Qingyin, here to report urgent news!”
Wei Liang paused slightly and slowly released Lin Jiu. As he stood up, she noticed his still tidy clothes, completely unlike her own messy appearance. He glanced back at her, and she was surprised to find that this man now looked exactly as described in the novel—an untouchable flower on a high peak, radiating coldness that kept people at a distance.
Those cold brows, thin lips, jade-like beautiful skin, and ink-black hair—from top to bottom, every inch of his being appeared ethereal, untainted by the mundane world.
With a flick of Wei Liang’s sleeve, the bed curtains fell, concealing the steamy scene within. “Enter,” he said. His voice was cold, devoid of emotions.
Lin Jiu knew her part was over—the death of his top disciple was no small matter, and once Wei Liang left, he wouldn’t be returning to the bridal chamber. By the time morning came, other events would unfold, and as long as she didn’t seek her own demise like the original Lin Qiu, she and Wei Liang could soon go their separate ways!
Once relieved of tension, people tended to get bolder. Lin Jiu lifted the bed curtain and peeked outside, eager to see the legendary female lead.
As expected, Liu Qingyin was a stunning beauty. With her white gauze dress floating lightly, she resembled a lotus fairy descending to the mortal world. Her eyes sparkled with joy as she rushed into the room, eagerly shouting to Wei Liang, “Master! Eldest Senior Brother, he—”
Lin Jiu was completely shocked. Sure, disrupting Wei Liang and the villainous side character’s bridal night was undoubtedly worth celebrating, but as the beautiful and kind-hearted female lead, how could Liu Qingyin be so openly joyful?! Her senior brother had just died! Even though the senior brother only appeared in the flashbacks, his personality, which was similar to Wei Liang’s, made him quite popular with the readers.
Liu Qingyin’s reaction was way over the top!
“Someone died and you’re this happy?” Lin Jiu blurted out, dumbfounded.
Wei Liang slowly turned his head, giving her an intrigued glance. From behind the bed curtains, a small head poked out, her hair disheveled, and her pale face looked like a delicate flower beaten by the rain.
Liu Qingyin laughed in anger. “What do you mean, someone died? When has my senior brother ever wronged you that you would curse him like this?!”
She glared at Lin Jiu for a moment, took a deep breath to suppress her urge to lash out, and turned to Wei Liang. “Master! Eldest Senior Brother is awake! You should go see him!”
‘What? Awake? The senior brother is awake? Why is this different from the plot?’ Lin Jiu was shocked. Then she realized that this unexpected twist actually helped preserve her character as the villainess—Liu Qingyin barging into the bridal chamber would have infuriated the original Lin Qiu, but her own calmness was out of character.
Though Lin Jiu wanted to distance herself from Wei Liang, she didn’t dare to break her supposed character too drastically. Since this world had no psychologists or mental hospitals, a drastic personality change might get her branded as a devil cultivator who had taken over someone’s body. That meant being captured and burned at the stake!
Lin Jiu turned her head to look at Wei Liang. Their gazes met, but neither of them understood the other.
“Master!” Liu Qingyin urged again, her voice sharp.
But Wei Liang was not in a rush. He strode over to the bedside, his cold fingers pinching Lin Jiu’s chin as he bent down to place a light kiss on the corner of her lips, “wait here, I’ll return soon.”
His voice was cold yet gentle.
‘???!!!’ The corner of Lin Jiu’s lips mouth twitched, and she instinctively shot a glance at Liu Qingyin.
The female lead’s beautiful face had gone pale. Eyes brimming with tears, she bit down hard on her lower lip, clearly heartbroken.
Lin Jiu tried to push Wei Liang away, but he easily caught her hand. Leaning close to her ear, he whispered in a low, raspy voice that only she could hear, “You did very well.”
Lin Jiu: “…”
‘What did she do?!’
