Liu Qingyin’s lips tightened, her face filled with sorrowful resolve. ‘Once a fierce battle breaks out, Lin Qiu will undoubtedly panic and cling to Master, dragging him down with her! Should things go horribly wrong, I might as well sacrifice myself to ensure his safety. If I lost my life for him, will he finally feel regret?’
One was a righteous and noble Sword Immortal, determined to protect the world at the cost of her life; the other, a spoiled, coquettish burden merely at the Foundation Establishment stage.
‘It’s like comparing the clouds to the mud!’
As her imagination ran wild, Liu Qingyin felt her blood boiling and her chest tightened with a resolute desire for tragic self-sacrifice. She glanced sideways, only to see an unusual gleam in Wei Liang’s cold, dark eyes which caused her heart to pound once more, as if she had suddenly been transported back to the days when they fought side by side.
Her Master had suffered severe injuries during his battle with the Devil Lord and hadn’t fully recovered. Facing Ji Yuan would certainly be a grueling fight, especially with the horde of devils lurking nearby, waiting for any chance to strike. What he needed now was a powerful ally, not a burden who held him back!
Tightening her grip on the hilt of her sword, Lu Qingyin silently muttered to herself, ‘Master, this is our world, our battlefield! Outsiders have no place here!’
She couldn’t resist casting a disdainful glance at the ‘burden.’ To her surprise, Lin Jiu showed no fear or distress. Instead, her lips curved into a slight smile, and an unknown light shone in her dark eyes as if she were… excited?
“Ji Yuan’s weak spot is on his left side,” Lin Jiu gently grasped Wei Liang’s sleeve and spoke up.
In order to control the blood puppet, Ji Yuan refined his entire left arm into a blood arm, granting him the ability to extend it into countless interconnected threads that linked to the puppet. Although the puppet shouldn’t have been completed at this point, he had undoubtedly already started refining his left arm.
The left arm must be Ji Yuan’s weak point—Lin Jiu was certain of this.
Hearing this, Liu Qingyin immediately retorted with anger, “Ji Yuan is famous for being elusive, and not even the Lianmi Sect1 managed to gather intel about him! You know nothing, so stop speaking nonsense and misleading Master!”
She then stared at Wei Liang closely, hoping he would scold this ignorant woman.
However, Wei Liang merely pursed his lips slightly and glanced at Lin Jiu. “Oh? If you’re wrong, how should I punish you?”
His tone was solemn, but to Lin Jiu’s ears, everything he said was laced with double entendre.
“I’m not guessing wildly,” Lin Jiu responded, adopting an even more solemn stance than him. She pointed at the approaching thunderclouds and said, “We need to look at the grand picture and carefully observe the details from there. Look, the intensity and density of the lightning strikes are distinctly uneven on the left side.”
“Oh?” Wei Liang glanced nonchalantly at the mass of thunderclouds.
Murong Chun also observed for a moment and muttered honestly, “Excuse me, but I can’t really see any difference.”
“No wonder, because you need a higher level of observation,” Lin Jiu remained perfectly composed—‘The process doesn’t matter, as long as the answer is correct!’
“Ever since Ji Yuan appeared with the thunderstorm, I’ve been counting the lightning strikes on his left, right, front, and back. So far, the strikes aimed at his right side outnumber those on his left by precisely eighty-one. This proves that he uses his right hand more often!”
Liu Qingyin knew that Lin Jiu was spewing nonsense, yet she couldn’t find a way to counter it. But Lin Jiu wasn’t about to let her off the hook. She turned toward the female lead, utilizing the best of her ability to put on the image of an ‘aggrieved yet resolute beauty’ as she confronted her, “Great Sword Immortal Liu, when have I ever offended you? I haven’t even held you accountable for the ‘love potion’ incident, yet you keep targeting me. Now, I’ve presented my case with evidence, but you dismiss me without reason, calling it nonsense. So how do you know I’m lying? What are your grounds? If you can’t provide a reason, I won’t force you to apologize; I just ask that you stop being so prejudiced against me…”
Liu Qingyin’s anger nearly took her breath away, “Y-You…!”
She had always been a favored child of the heaven. Her talents bloomed at a young age, catching Wei Liang’s eye, who took her in as his youngest and seventh disciple. Her six senior brothers and sisters all treated her like the apple of their eye, shielding her from the harsh realities of life and never giving her the chance to argue with others. With such a sheltered upbringing, she was naturally no match for Lin Jiu’s sharp tongue.
In truth, Liu Qingyin’s mentality was no different from that of an ordinary young woman, though she carried more pride and dignity than most. After falling in love with Wei Liang, her heart was set on him, and he became the center of her world. The changes were so sudden and extreme, giving her no time to mentally adapt or hide her hostility towards Lin Jiu.
Seething with anger yet unable to out-talk Lin Jiu, Liu Qingyin completely lost her composure. She rushed forward, shoving Lin Jiu aside, and glared at Wei Liang, bitterness filling her voice. “Master…”
Murong Chun wiped his forehead, his brows furrowing in distress. As he defended the three of them against the attacking devils, he urged, “Ji Yuan is almost here, Junior Sister! Please, stop being so stubborn!”
“So what if I’m being stubborn?!” Liu Qingyin insisted, demanding an answer from Wei Liang. “Master, tell me! Who do you trust—me or her?”
Even Lin Jiu could feel Liu Qingyin’s unwillingness and struggle. She glanced at the approaching thunderclouds, and a thought suddenly struck her like lightning.
The bottle that had contained the gorse… actually belonged to Liu Qingyin.
It must have been during one of the New Year’s celebrations. Liu Qingyin had intentionally worn a bright red dress for the occasion, looking like a married couple with Wei Liang, who was presiding over the ceremony. Elder Xing from the Punishment Hall, who was in charge of discipline, fumed with anger and sentenced her to meditate as punishment, so she sought out some gorse, refined them secretly to enhance their effect, and used the concoction to humiliate the old man in retaliation.
When Wei Liang found out, he didn’t reprimand her; instead, he took the bottle from her with a hint of amusement and covered up the incident.
When Lin Jiu read this scene, she thought it was incredibly sweet how the male lead had secretly taken the jade bottle from Liu Qingyin’s hand. She never expected things to turn out like this…
Yet, Wei Liang still held onto that bottle—the very one she had used to make the switch during the love potion incident.
As Lin Jiu was lost in her thoughts, she was abruptly interrupted by Wei Liang’s voice, clear and unmistakable.
“My wife can’t be wrong,” she heard him say. “If she’s wrong, then I’ll break Ji Yuan’s left leg to prove her right.”
“…” Lin Jiu was beyond speechless—‘Male lead, wake up! You’re acting just like those scumbags who side with their mistresses to torment their wives!’
