WUML Ch 21 – A Pure Heart Devoid of Desires

Bones shattered, and the towering skeleton collapsed with a crash!

Lin Jiu’s heart leaped with joy. Panting lightly, she focused on the next skeleton advancing toward her. At that moment, a small red glow floated out from the shattered pile of bones, landing on her body. She shuddered, instantly sensing the lingering resentment of the skeleton’s former life.

‘Wu Mengxia… you destroyed my family…’

A chill crept down the back of Lin Jiu’s neck. Wasn’t Wu Mengxia the hero who had died defending Qianqi Pass just days ago? Could there be more to the story?

Dodging an incoming bone sword from the front, Lin Jiu pondered—‘Could it be that the so-called righteous faction is rotten to the core? Otherwise, how could there be such immense resentment?’

She vaguely felt that the sword atop the white mountain was the focal point of this overwhelming resentment from countless lost souls!

To her left, the grating sound of bones scraping together echoed as a sword-wielding skeleton grinned menacingly and swung its blade at her.

Lin Jiu stumbled back awkwardly, narrowly avoiding the bone sword slashing toward her abdomen.

Since transmigrating into this cultivation world, she had always been protected by Wei Liang, an ultimate powerhouse. Watching his effortless, elegant style in battle had given Lin Jiu the illusion that she, too, was a powerful figure—until now.

These skeletons, driven by resentment, had strength roughly equivalent to the Foundation Establishment stage. Their attacks lacked any technique, consisting only of simple, clumsy hacks and slashes.

Yet, despite their plain fighting style, Lin Jiu struggled to keep up. She was barely holding her ground, cold sweat seeping down her back.

Luckily, these skeletons had one unique trait: their memory span was even shorter than that of a goldfish. As long as Lin Jiu managed to maneuver behind them, they would pause in confusion before continuing their march toward the distant white mountain. Taking advantage of this, Lin Jiu launched a succession of guerrilla attacks, successfully cutting down several crimson skeletons and absorbing their dying resentment.

‘Mother, I regret it so much…’

‘It hurts! It hurts! Don’t eat me!’

‘Wu Mengxia, you liar!’

‘Please, spare me! If you want someone, take Wu Mengxia!’

‘It’s all your fault, Wu Mengxia! I won’t forgive you, even in death!’

Dodging the skeletons’ attacks, Lin Jiu circled them to strike from behind. At first, it was purely for self-defense, but gradually, her curiosity grew. She wanted to understand what had truly happened at Qianqi Pass.

When the skeletons shattered, their resentment flew to Lin Jiu like splashes of crimson blood, silently casting a shadow over her heart.

‘Kill, kill, kill…’ Amid the sea of red, her eyes began to burn, her vision tinged with an even deeper hue of blood…

Just as she was getting lost in the frenzy of battle, a cool sensation suddenly brushed against her forehead. It was like the first drop of melting snow in early spring, carrying a faint, cold fragrance.

Lin Jiu snapped back to her senses! Before she knew it, the resentment had begun to cloud her mind, pushing her to abandon defense in favor of reckless combat.

Alarmed, she immediately tried to invoke the karma lotus. With a turn of the lotus, all the resentment clinging to her was drawn into her spiritual sea and devoured by the lotus.

The sixth lotus petal showed faint signs of opening.

Lin Jiu’s heart skipped a beat. The Huang Chuan Secret Realm was set to open soon, but the sheer amount of malice required to open the sixth, seventh, and eighth petals had left her at a loss. This opportunity could not be more perfect!

Taking a deep breath, she gripped the bone arrow tightly and charged into the endless army of skeletons.

Luck was on her side. Her clumsy attacks found their marks, and she was able to fight to her heart’s content.

Resentment was no trivial matter—it was filled with venom, despair, pain, anxiety, and hatred, tormenting the souls of the dead without end, preventing them from resting in peace. She granted them release, and they left behind their resentment to help the karma lotus advance—a win-win!

With her mind now steady, Lin Jiu struck with newfound precision.

Time passed swiftly on the unseen corners of the battlefield. Without realizing it, Lin Jiu’s movements became increasingly fluid. As she dodged the skeletons’ attacks, she even found herself subconsciously fixing her posture.

Spiritual aura flowed effortlessly through the bone arrow in her hand. She focused it on different parts of the weapon, executing various precise techniques—thrusting, slashing, piercing, and chopping. Like a slippery eel, she slipped beneath the ribcage of an especially tall skeleton, reversing her grip on the bone arrow to slice it cleanly in half.

With a light touch of her left foot on the ground, she nimbly avoided a sword stabbing down from above. A slight grin tugged at the corner of her lips as she hopped onto the wide blade of the bone sword, leaped gracefully, and swiftly swung her arm to decapitate the skeleton.

As her body descended lightly, an image of Wei Liang landing with her in his arms surfaced in her mind.

‘Wei Liang…’

Lin Jiu tightened her grip on the bone arrow, silently thinking, ‘I’ve given you and Liu Qingyin the perfect chance to be alone—a man and a woman, in a dark, closed space. Make the most of it and don’t be disappointing!

The disappointing Wei Liang had a calm expression at this moment as he turned his head slightly, watching the flushed face of Liu Qingyin. His right index finger was pressed against the center of Lin Jiu’s forehead, where a faint white glow shimmered gently at the point of contact.

Liu Qingyin stared fixedly at Wei Liang’s hand, her breathing heavy, adding a touch of indescribable mood to the otherwise silent underground tomb.

“M-Master…” she croaked, her voice hoarse.

An incense stick of time earlier, devils had sneaked into the tomb through the passage Wei Liang had carved. With Wei Liang completely focused on safeguarding Lin Jiu’s spiritual consciousness, Liu Qingyin had no choice but to draw her sword and handle the incoming devils herself.

Slaying the dozen or so Nascent Realm devils wasn’t much trouble. However, she hadn’t expected a charm devil to feign death and catch her off guard with a spray of peach-pink miasma.

Liu Qingyin breathed the miasma in, full force.

After dealing with the corpses and sealing the passage, she rushed back to Wei Liang’s side to meditate and regulate her breath. But the charm devil’s miasma was overwhelmingly potent. Liu Qingyin made every effort to clear her thoughts, but she couldn’t stop images of her and her Master indulging in pleasure from flooding her mind. Despite trying to hold on, she finally couldn’t resist opening her eyes, only to see Wei Liang’s finger resting on Lin Jiu’s forehead.

His fingers were long and beautiful, pale as the finest white jade, radiating a cool aura.

The heat within Liu Qingyin’s body intensified. Just the mere thought of having his chilly fingertips tracing along her velvety skin caused her whole body to quiver, pushing her desire to its peak.

Once the thought surfaced, she couldn’t suppress it any longer. Trembling, Liu Qingyin walked over to Wei Liang. He turned to look at her, his gaze cold and indifferent.

“Master… please help me,” Liu Qingyin managed to say, her voice strained. “This disciple… this disciple can’t neutralize the charm devil’s poison. If I try to force my way through it, I… I…”

Wei Liang’s lips barely moved. “What if you force it?”

“If I force it…” Liu Qingyin bit her lip. “If I try to push through it, I might damage my emotions root and from then on… from then on…”

Such words were difficult to say out loud, but in her poisoned and muddled state, her urgency overcame her hesitation. Gritting her teeth, she said, “If I force my way through it, I might lose any desire for matters between men and women for the rest of my life!”

After saying that, her misty eyes locked longingly onto Wei Liang.

But Wei Liang’s expression remained unchanged. His voice was as cold and detached as always. “Cultivating the Dao demands a pure heart devoid of desires. This outcome would be ideal.”

Liu Qingyin: “…”

  1. I’d just like to say, serves you right. The level of her deluluness is so astounding that I have no words to stay 😭

Others speculated that Qin Yunxi and Wei Liang both regressed and swapped bodies, if that were the case, then how come Qin Yunxi-slash-Wei-Liang does all those things for our beloved Lin Qiu? Ah, I really want to see his POV!
