Quick recap: Wei Liang, Lin Jiu, and Liu Qingyin entered the Wu family’s underground tomb in Qianqi Pass and found the Aura Conduit Stalk’s yang plant. However, the herb was enveloped by the resentment of the dead, making it impossible to retrieve. Drawn by a mysterious sensation, Lin Jiu touched the resentment of the dead and was transported to a strange space filled with skeletons formed from resentment and a sword lodged at the peak of a distant mountain. After slaying the skeletons, their resentment was absorbed by the karma lotus, and the sixth petal was on the verge of blooming.
‘Wei Liang, I’ve given you and the female lead the perfect chance to be alone… Make the most of it and don’t be disappointing!’
…
In the crimson world, Lin Jiu continued to swing her bone arrow, cutting through the endless army of skeletons.
The sixth petal of the karma lotus continued to bloom!
Thirty percent… fifty percent… eighty percent… one hundred percent!
Skillfully channeling the bursting spiritual aura, Lin Jiu fed it back into the lotus, helping solidify the sixth petal.
‘Only two petals left!’ Lin Jiu’s heart surged with excitement as she gazed over the sea of crimson skeletons.
Suddenly, a deep rumbling echoed from below. The red earth, which had been as calm as a mirror just moments ago, now surged like a storm-tossed sea, heaving and rolling violently.
The ground trembled as a massive mound rose rapidly from it. Like tumbling rocks, countless skeletons rolled down the newly-formed hill. Lin Jiu was also thrown to the ground, but she quickly plunged the bone arrow deep into the earth to steady herself.
The mound continued to grow until it reached dozens of meters high. Then it suddenly exploded, hurling dirt and rocks into the sky, which then came crashing down like a heavy rainstorm. From within the mound, a giant skeletal hand, as tall as a grown man, emerged with a thunderous roar!
The bone claw flexed in the air before thrusting the entire bone arm out of the ground and slamming down with a boom, anchoring itself to the ground. Almost simultaneously, another massive arm emerged from a different spot, and both hands gripped the earth, pulling a colossal body up from the depths.
The ground rippled like boiling water, with rocks and debris scattering in every direction.
“Wu… Meng… Xia…!!”
‘The giant skeleton speaks!’ Amidst Lin Jiu’s shock, the skeleton soon hauled its entire gigantic body out of the earth, its bones creaking and rattling like a massive ship being dragged ashore. Struggling slightly, it stood up, tilted its head back, and let out a bone-chilling roar.
Then, it fixed its gaze on the snow-white mountain ahead and took a thunderous step forward. With each step, countless smaller skeletons were crushed underfoot. Flexing its enormous frame, it moved its pillar-like legs and charged toward the mountain.
Boom, boom, boom—!!
The army of skeletons erupted in a frenzy. No longer did any of them pay attention to Lin Jiu, the only intruder among them. They opened their gaping, hollow mouths in silent roars, brandishing their bone weapons as they surged forward, following the giant skeleton toward the white mountain!
Each step of the giant skeleton caused the ground to quake violently, rumbling and shaking. In this mad rush, anything left standing in place would inevitably be trampled into a pulp. Lin Jiu, swept along by the skeletal tide, was carried toward the white mountain.”
She groaned inwardly, ‘Mr. Wu Mengxia, what in the world did you do to bring such wrath?!’
A sharp sound of something cutting through the air came from behind. At the same time, a chill ran down the back of Lin Jiu’s neck. Without thinking, she dove forward and rolled on the ground.
A crimson skeleton barely missed her head, crashing into the soil ahead and shoveling up a large mound of earth.
Lin Jiu glanced back and saw countless giant skeletons crawling out one after another!
Among them was a particularly large yet slightly slender skeleton, locking its empty gaze on her. The moment it spotted her, the skeleton crouched as it ran, grabbing the smaller skeletons around it and hurling them toward her one by one. The strength of this giant skeleton was on a completely different level compared to the regular ones, and Lin Jiu knew she had no chance to face him with the bone arrow in her hand. Her situation instantly became perilous.
Massive skeletons, towering like skyscrapers, swept past Lin Jiu’s head and sides, sending up sprays of dirt that nearly buried her alive. The slender giant skeleton, however, kept its unyielding focus on her. It hunched over, arms splayed at its sides, its neck twisting as it snarled and bared its teeth, letting out a series of roars.
Its calls attracted three other giant skeletons. Together, they began to coordinate their movements, closing in on Lin Jiu from all directions.
Engulfed within the frenzied swarm of small skeletons, Lin Jiu had to fend off their attacks while also staying on guard against the giants’ looming strikes.
Every time a giant skeleton bent down to attack, it would send countless smaller ones flying in all directions. In this desperate situation, Lin Jiu pushed herself to the limit, leaping and dodging in all directions. Sometimes, she would jump several meters by stepping on a small skeleton’s shoulder; other times, she would duck and slip beneath their ribcages to avoid the lethal sweeping attacks of the giant skeletons.
Her heart pounded wildly, her ears filled with the sound of her own rushing blood and her heavy breathing.
Her throat burned, and her limbs had grown sore and numb. She was getting closer and closer to the white mountain.
While rolling across the ground, Lin Jiu’s foot landed on a piece of white bone, almost causing her to slip. A faint sense of unease crept into her mind, though she couldn’t quite pinpoint its source.
But now wasn’t the time to dwell on it. The four giant skeletons were relentless, clinging to her like a group of resentful ghosts. They grabbed smaller skeletons and flung them at her like hurling discus, forcing her to dart left and right like a cornered cockroach.
‘What a desperate situation!’
The white mountain loomed closer with every passing moment. Leaping off the shoulder of yet another small skeleton, Lin Jiu narrowly avoided a fatal sweeping attack from one of the giant skeletons. As her eyes shifted towards the white mountain, she let out a gasp of surprise that nearly plummeted her to the ground.
‘It’s a mountain of bones!’
‘A literal mountain of bones!’
Countless skeletons, as white as snow, crawled out from the mountain’s base, surging toward the crimson skeleton army and clashing with them head-on!
‘White bones! White bones!’
Right, how could she forget—when she first landed in this strange land, she accidentally stepped on a white bone! With only crimson skeletons in sight, where had this white bone come from? Clearly, something was wrong with that mountain…
Lin Jiu silently cursed her luck.
The collision force between the two armies was so immense that the skeletons at the point of impact were completely immobilized. They shattered upon impact, scattering bone fragments across the ground. And behind them, the armies continued to flood toward this bone-crushing death line.
Swept up in the tide of war, Lin Jiu was dragged closer and closer to the death line!
The line where red and white skeletons collided resembled a black hole, grinding everything that touched it into countless pieces. Lin Jiu knew her frail body wouldn’t stand a chance if she were swept there. Glancing back, she saw that the four giant skeletons had sealed off her escape route. Waves of smaller skeletons surged from under them, hurling themselves toward the front with soundless roars. At this point, trying to fight against the current was almost impossible.
The death line loomed closer and closer. Lin Jiu felt like she was teetering on the edge of a waterfall, swept along by the unstoppable torrent, about to plummet over the cliff and shatter to pieces!
