Lin Jiu led Wang Weizhi through the towering grasslands. The enormous foliage swayed overhead, blotting out the sun. “Once you’ve replenished your whirlpool, we’ll head north to intercept Ji Yuan and send him out of the stage,” she said casually. “Show me what you’re capable of.”
“Consider it done,” Wang Weizhi replied, his lips barely moving.
“As for Liu Qingyin…” Lin Jiu hesitated. “She knows everything I do about this stage. Be extremely cautious when dealing with her.”
Wang Weizhi smirked slightly, his eyes still carrying an air of contempt. Seeing him like this, Lin Jiu couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. Could a man as self-absorbed as Wang Weizhi really fall for a woman as passionately as the novel described? While he and Liu Qingyin had a brief interaction on the sand platform, there was no sign of romantic sparks.
Was it possible for such a man to truly lose himself over a woman?
But if that weren’t the case, what explained his nearly century-long dedication to Liu Qingyin?
“Wang Weizhi, what would you be like if you were in love with someone?” Lin Jiu asked bluntly. She generally spoke her mind, never holding back unless she had a reason to.
Wang Weizhi gave her an amused glance. A sly smile danced on his lips as he replied, his tone half-serious, half-joking, “Just like I am with you.”
“And if she didn’t love you back? What then?” Lin Jiu pressed.
“If I want a woman, sooner or later, she’ll be mine.” He grinned, full of self-confidence.
“…” Lin Jiu was speechless. ‘Well, no point continuing this conversation!’
“What about Liu Qingyin?” She changed the subject. “Do you like someone like her?”
Wang Weizhi laughed. “She? What a joke. Do you know what the Wang family has in excess? Fools who thought themselves smart. Just looking at them is tiresome.”
Lin Jiu smiled faintly, letting the topic drop.
‘Tiresome you said… who was busy calling her ‘Fairy Qingyin’ just a moment ago? Ha, men are indeed liars! If men were trustworthy, pigs could climb trees!’
Still… his behavior differed so vastly from the book’s description that the two seemed like completely different people.
Lin Jiu pondered for a moment and came to a stop in front of a slender brown-stemmed plant.
“Here?” Wang Weizhi raised an eyebrow.
“Shh…” Lin Jiu gestured to him.
After a brief wait, the plant suddenly raised its trumpet-shaped bloom and began to puff out fine sand with a series of soft ‘puff-puff-puff’ sounds. As the sand passed through the uneven stem, it emitted a string of long, farting noises.
“….Senior Huang Chuan has a unique sense of humor.” After a brief pause, Wang Weizhi maneuvered his sand whirlpool closer, using its fine, pointed tip to collect the scattered sand. Before long, the whirlpool beneath his feet returned to its original size.
“Can it hold any more?”
“No.”
“Then let’s go block Ji Yuan.” Wang Weizhi tilted his head slightly, his red headband fluttering gently in the wind. Once again, he looked like a spirited, confident youth.
The two quickly found Ji Yuan, who was being chased into utter disarray by a towering giant serpent.
Seeing Ji Yuan’s sorry state, Wang Weizhi discreetly wiped his brow. ‘If it wasn’t for Lin Qiu’s help, I’d probably look just as pathetic right now.’
“There’s a cave over there,” he then said, his eyes glinting. “Let’s send him off there.”
Combat was not Lin Jiu’s forte, so she had no opinion and quietly followed behind Wang Weizhi. The two maneuvered ahead of Ji Yuan and slipped into the vine-covered cave.
Not long after, the rumbling sound of Ji Yuan being chased into the cave by the giant serpent echoed through the air!
“Don’t worry, I won’t allow even a single hair of yours to be harmed,” Wang Weizhi said, his long brows raised, his gaze playful yet resolute, exuding a youthful confidence.
With that, he urged his sand whirlpool forward, his figure transforming into a streak of red and white lightning as he launched a sudden assault on the disheveled Ji Yuan!
Ji Yuan’s luck couldn’t have been worse. Using his signature ‘Nascent Bloodfall,’ he possessed Wang Hanling’s body to infiltrate the secret realm, significantly weakening his strength to a level comparable to Wang Weizhi’s. After being chased by the giant serpent, he had already exhausted much of his energy in an effort to conserve his sand whirlpool.
Finally managing to escape into the narrow cave, Ji Yuan sighed in relief as the serpent was blocked outside. But his reprieve was abruptly cut short. He found himself with no room to dodge as Wang Weizhi, fully prepared, struck with a fierce murderous intent!
Not only was Wang Weizhi in a much better state, but he had also prepared his ambush with the terrain at his side. The cave was suddenly illuminated by crimson and white sword light—his ultimate technique—leaving Ji Yuan with no path of escape.
“Wang Wei—”
Before he could finish his words, the sharp blade had penetrated into his chest.
Ji Yuan’s instincts screamed that stepping off his sand whirlpool meant instant elimination. Unwilling to accept such an end, he raised both hands and desperately grabbed onto the sword’s edge.
“—zhi!” Ji Yuan’s face twisted in rage. Dark blood continued to drip down the blade as his eyes darkened. “Stop! Or I will kill your mother!”
Wang Weizhi froze mid-strike.
Lin Jiu cautiously maneuvered her sand whirlpool closer.
Ji Yuan, desperate to convince Wang Weizhi, quickly said, “Let me ask you this—was your mother’s name Huang Yinyue?!”
Wang Weizhi’s breath hitched, and his expression darkened ominously.
Seeing his reaction, Ji Yuan already had the answer he needed. A sinister smile spread across his face as he sneered, “No wonder you looked familiar the first time I saw you! Just now, when you mentioned your mother was a devil, I had my doubts. Haha… so that’s it! That’s it!”
Wang Weizhi’s jaw tightened, his face like stone.
Ji Yuan’s smugness only grew. “You probably don’t know, do you? Your mother, Huang Yinyue, was the Devil Lord’s beloved! The last great war was sparked because of her!”
Wang Weizhi’s throat constricted, and though he tried to stay composed, his voice came out strained. “Nonsense.”
“Heh,” Ji Yuan coughed up blood as he laughed maniacally. “If I hadn’t exploited his weakness, how could I have so easily schemed against the Devil Lord and led him to his demise? Let me tell you, the Devil Lord risked everything to fight Wei Liang head-on, just so I could seize the chance to abduct Huang Yinyue. And now, her whereabouts are known to only one person in the world—me!”
Wang Weizhi slowly began to pull back his sword.
Lin Jiu’s heart sank. Who could have predicted such an entanglement between Wang Weizhi and Ji Yuan, two people who should have had nothing to do with each other? This connection might force Wang Weizhi to ally with Ji Yuan…
As Lin Jiu quietly began retreating toward the cave entrance, a sudden change erupted!
Unbeknownst to anyone, Liu Qingyin had sneaked into the cave at some point. Seizing the moment when Wang Weizhi and Ji Yuan were both distracted, she delivered a sharp kick, sending Ji Yuan flying out of the cave! The dark figure of blood-red mist let out a ghastly screech before vanishing into the void.
“You!” Wang Weizhi’s eyes blazed with fury as he glared at Liu Qingyin.
With a swift motion, Liu Qingyin’s slender figure dashed as she snatched Ji Yuan’s sand whirlpool and positioned her sword defensively. Her voice was cold as she said, “Don’t worry; since your mother was abducted by a devil, it is the duty of my Wanjiangui Sect to help you rescue her.”
Wang Weizhi’s chest heaved violently, his rage barely contained.
Liu Qingyin added, “There’s no time to waste. Take Lin Qiu’s whirlpool, and the two of us will proceed to meet Huang Chuan immediately.”
Wang Weizhi inhaled deeply, slowly turning his head to lock eyes with Lin Jiu.
