MSRV Ch 134 Part 1 – New Year (I)

For about three or four months now, Wenwen had been receiving Si Yue’s mentorship, and he eventually understood what his father was trying to teach him—Si Yue had likely sensed his abnormal tendency toward malice and was trying to guide him onto the right path.

The Chi Wen in his previous life grew up without proper guidance from adults and developed his character through years of struggle. Wenwen, who had seen too much darkness in his previous life, knew he wasn’t a good person… After being reborn and growing up in a much more loving environment, his nature had changed a lot, but deep down, he still carried imprints from his past life. Whenever he saw the people who had wronged him in the previous life, he often couldn’t control his malice.

When Si Yue noticed this other side of his character, Wenwen was scared he would be disappointed and stop loving him. To his surprise, Si Yue devoted even more effort to teaching him, even though he wasn’t a good, ideal son.

Wenwen always felt that Si Yue’s affection was based on his being his son, not for who he was. However, from Si Yue’s actions, he felt a love as deep and sincere as his mother’s.

Is this what people mean by paternal love? They said a father’s love was like a mountain, and he perhaps understood it now.

With this thought in mind, Wenwen chuckled happily.

Hearing the crackling laughter, Fu Yunruo turned to look and smiled, “What is he dreaming about? He seems so happy.”

At that moment, Wenwen was resting on Si Yue’s shoulder, fast asleep. Fu Yunruo didn’t know what he was dreaming, but the boy was grinning in his sleep.

The weather was pleasant today. Taking advantage of the rare sunny winter day, Fu Yunruo and Si Yue took Wenwen for an outing. They had to disguise themselves, but that didn’t hinder Wenwen’s excitement. After playing crazily all day, he was exhausted by dinner time and quickly fell asleep afterward.

Si Yue carried the sleeping child with Fu Yunruo walking next to him. They strolled through the bustling crowd, like any ordinary family of three.

“Shall we head back?” Fu Yunruo suggested. Both of them had spent the day chasing after the hyperactive Wenwen. No matter how strong Si Yue was, he surely would be exhausted if he had to carry the child all the time, not to mention he had just recovered and shouldn’t carry heavy things for long periods.

Si Yue met Fu Yunruo’s concerned gaze and nodded. After calling for the car, they waited by the roadside, and soon a vehicle pulled up in front of them.

After securing Wenwen in the child’s seat, Fu Yunruo was about to get into the car when Si Yue caught her hand.

Puzzled, she looked back.

Si Yue smiled, “Let’s have the driver and bodyguard take the child home. It’s been a long time since we had a private time together.” Si Yue couldn’t help but sigh inside. This was one side of having children, especially young ones. As parents, it was hard for them to have their own time—their little lightbulb was too present.

Fu Yunruo paused briefly before agreeing. Though it seemed like a family outing today, numerous undercover bodyguards were present to ensure their protection. She felt comfortable leaving Wenwen in their care. Furthermore, as Si Yue said, it was indeed rare for them to have time together. Recognizing this, she decided it was essential to occasionally indulge her boyfriend.

The two walked together on the streets, the bustling sounds of the crowd surrounded them, filled with the lively atmosphere of everyday life. As the New Year approached, the streets began to take on a festive air, with shops displaying paper cuts on the windows and auspicious plants at the entrance.

Si Yue reached out and took Fu Yunruo’s hand, intertwining their fingers. Fu Yunruo looked up at Si Yue, feeling a warmth spread across her face, yet she reciprocated the grip. Where their palms met, they exchanged warmth, seemingly blending into one another, drawing them even closer together.

Fu Yunruo looked at the lively atmosphere and smiled, “The New Year is coming; we should start preparing for it.”

Si Yue responded softly, and couldn’t help but smile. It was his first time preparing for the New Year with Fu Yunruo and Wenwen, a novel and exciting experience.

Once the plan was made, Fu Yunruo acted immediately. The next day, she and Si Yue took Wenwen to shop for New Year’s goods. A new year brings a fresh start, and new clothes are a must. Si Yue’s clothes were usually custom-made by exclusive designers, but he preferred it when Fu Yunruo personally selected them from the store.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t openly browse large department stores without risking exposure, so they opted for high-end boutiques that prioritized customer privacy. This was a common dilemma for celebrities.

At this time, many companies had started their New Year holidays, and people were heading back to their hometowns for family reunions. Even the flower garden had closed for the holiday three days prior, but Beijing, as the capital of the country, remained bustling.

Their gated community had everything they needed for the New Year, but they still went out to experience the festive atmosphere.

Although Fu Yunruo didn’t have relatives in Beijing, she had made many friends and acquaintances. She had a lot of New Year goods to prepare and had already sent a batch back to the village. This time, she was shopping for friends and acquaintances in Beijing. Although she was not related by blood to Uncle Guo, she planned to visit the old man’s students, and she also had to show appreciation to the friends who had helped her and her family a lot.

The family of three would leave empty-handed each day and return laden with bags. They seemed tireless, each day filled with excitement and joy. Following the village tradition, Fu Yunruo bought couplets, snacks, and drinks for guests.

They also conducted a thorough cleaning of their home. Though they could have hired help, doing it themselves felt more rewarding. When the family gathered together, the chores became fun, and they hardly felt tired.

Fu Yunruo looked at Wenwen. The boy was very sticky to her and Si Yue, always staying close together. He was also tasked with cleaning today. With his rosy cheeks and sparkling eyes, Fu Yunruo thought he seemed even happier than last year. Perhaps it was because her son was a year older and more lively, or maybe because he now had both parents by his side…

In the midst of their busy preparations, Fu Yunruo and her family ushered in the New Year. On New Year’s Eve, following village customs, Fu Yunruo prepared a bath with pomelo leaves after lunch, as it’s believed to wash away bad luck and bring good fortune for the new year.

This year had been a disaster, with Wenwen and Si Yue nearly avoiding death. She decided it was a good time for a cleansing bath to bring good luck for the coming year. In addition, they also began preparing the New Year’s Eve dinner and affixing the couplets and window decorations.

As it was the holiday season, Fu Yunruo had given Qian Shengnan a New Year’s vacation, leaving just the family of four at home.

Wenwen was already dressed in his new clothes, a bright red child’s Tang-style suit that made him look like a little immortal from a New Year painting.

Uncle Guo, too, wore a Tang-style outfit, looking much younger and more vigorous. At this moment, he was busy directing Si Yue in affixing the couplets. On the other side of the room, Wenwen, standing on a stool, prepared the paper, spreading the paste on one side before jumping down and running to the window to stick it on the glass, smoothing it with his little chubby hands.

Stepping back to admire his work, Wenwen nodded in satisfaction.

“It’s slanted; move it a bit to the right… more to the right…” Wenwen saw Grandpa Guo instructing his father by the door and ran over, eager to help, “Let me help!”

Fu Yunruo was in the kitchen, preparing the New Year’s Eve dinner, her smile never fading as she listened to the lively sounds from outside.

She felt grateful for this unexpected journey life had taken her on. While she was initially thrown into this strange world without anyone to rely on, Wenwen gave her a sense of belonging in this world, and Si Yue filled her with anticipation for the future.

Recently, Fu Yunruo seldom thought about her previous world. The memories of her past twenty years felt like a foggy dream, barely discernible. Sometimes, she even felt as if she were the real Fu Yunruo, and the concept of transmigration, of another world, was just a dream.

Was it the man who dreamed he was a butterfly, or the butterfly who dreamed it was a man? Fu Yunruo had no way of knowing, but she had come to accept her reality and hoped everyone could find happiness.
