THDP Ch 146 Part 3 – Dao Companion (III)

“Meng Qi,” As he watched the blue-robed girl playing happily with the little white tiger, Yun Qingyan’s gaze flickered. His true form was that of a huge and majestic celestial demon white tiger, imposing and renowned in the entire Demon Realm for its dashing look. However, Meng Qi didn’t seem very fond of it; at least, she had never shown such an expression when he had revealed his true form before.

Yun Qingyan slowly flicked his finger, and the little white tiger disappeared from Meng Qi’s arms.

Meng Qi’s face was full of reluctance and disappointment, but she quickly concealed these emotions and adjusted her mind. “Sovereign Qingyan, is the Ten Absolutes Mountain about to open?” She returned to the initial topic.

“Yes,” Yun Qingyan nodded.

As Meng Qi recalled her cauldron, Yun Qingyan handed her the black wooden token: “Take this. You will receive the jade slip when you step out of the auction house.”

“Yes,” she accepted the black wooden token, examining it for a moment before looking up again. “Then, Sovereign Qingyan, I’ll take my leave.” Meng Qi stood up and bowed to Yun Qingyan.

“Go ahead.”

“Sovereign Qingyan,” Meng Qi paused, “please…” She pursed her lips, hesitant. Before she was a cultivator far more powerful than herself. He was the White Tiger Sovereign who had been the victor in the last Demon Monarch war and a person who had been ruling the Demon Realm for a century.

“Please take care.” In the end, Meng Qi couldn’t find the words she wanted to say. Bowing for the last time, she then turned and strode towards the door. She wasn’t a sentimental person, but now she felt a warmth in her eyes. For some reason, even though she knew Yun Qingyan didn’t need her concern, she couldn’t help but worry about him.

Meng Qi walked swiftly. By the time she left the auction house, there were no cultivators left. Holding the black wooden token in her hand, she stepped through the gate. She felt a vibration in her storage pouch and quickly checked it, finding a small jade slip inside. At the same time, the black wooden token in her hand had also vanished.

Meng Qi looked back one last time at the seemingly ordinary courtyard, finding it hard to believe that such an auction had just taken place there. She recalled Yun Qingyan’s words. Now, she had an additional goal for entering the Ten Absolutes Mountain — besides trying to pass the trial and becoming stronger, there was also this jade slip.

Meng Qi exhaled and walked toward the teleportation array. She soon left Beyond The Heaven and reappeared in the courtyard of Jingyuetian. Holding the warm jade slip of Beyond The Heaven in her hand, she thought about Yun Qingyan’s words — according to him, there was also a Beyond The Heaven in the Demon Realm, and its master was Jingyuetian Sect Leader.

In other words, Yan Shunbei was the master of the other Beyond The Heaven.

Meng Qi lowered her head, realizing this matter was more complex than it seemed. But since Yun Qingyan had said he would tell her after leaving the Ten Absolutes Mountain, she shook her head and pushed these thoughts aside.

“Meng Qiqi,” three knocks came from the door, followed by Sikong Xing’s voice, “are you ready?”

“Yes,” Meng Qi quickly responded, getting up to open the door.

“That’s great,” Sikong Xing exclaimed happily upon seeing her. “The disciples of Jingyuetian have informed us that we must head to the foot of the Ten Absolutes Mountain within one incense stick of time. I was worried you hadn’t finished your matters.”

“I’m ready,” Meng Qi said.

“Then let’s go,” Sikong Xing said, warmly linking arms with Meng Qi.

When Meng Qi and Sikong Xing arrived at the foot of the Ten Absolutes Mountain, many people had already gathered there. They were dressed in cultivator robes of various colors, each bearing the emblem of their respective sects. There were also a few wandering cultivators, like Meng Qi and Sikong Xing, but they were in the minority.

Their other friends, such as Chu Tianfeng and Li Che, who belonged to sects, had already arrived. They had received their quota to the Ten Absolutes Mountain from their sects.

Meng Qi glanced around, noticing the multitude of cultivators and not in a hurry to find her friends.

“Meng Qiqi,” Sikong Xing whispered, “Qin Xiumo asked me to tell you he’s already gone to Anyun Peak. We will talk more after entering the mountain.”

“Okay,” Meng Qi nodded. Qin Xiumo, who was at odds with his sect, had now returned voluntarily. He must have a plan, and most probably knew something more.

Since their conversation in the Starfallen Sea, Meng Qi knew that Qin Xiumo was hiding secrets — just like her, he seemed to remember things from their previous lives. They hadn’t had a chance to talk since then. Meng Qi hadn’t experienced the Ten Absolutes Mountain trial in her previous life, but perhaps Qin Xiumo knew something about it. Perhaps it was necessary to find an opportunity to have a proper conversation with him later.

“Oh, right!” Sikong Xing exclaimed. As she spoke, she stood on tiptoe and began looking around. “Where has Su Junmo gone? He mentioned he had some matters to attend to, but he assured me he would return before the opening of the Ten Absolutes Mountain. Why hasn’t he appeared yet?”

Su Junmo had also gone to Beyond The Heaven. Meng Qi was aware of this, and he had left earlier.

Recalling the recent events in Beyond The Heaven, Meng Qi still felt somewhat dazed. She couldn’t help but reach into her storage pouch again, ensuring that the jade slip had indeed been brought out of Beyond The Heaven, which eased her mind.

“Where’s Su Junmo?” Sikong Xing was still searching for him.

“Meng Qiqi?” Xue Chengxuan’s voice suddenly came from a distance, filled with surprise.

Meng Qi looked up and saw him making his way through the crowd towards her.

“You really came!” A moment later, the affable young man had stood before the two of them, “I knew you would be here.”

“Already reached the Nascent Soul stage?” Xue Chengxuan looked Meng Qi up and down.

“Yes,” Meng Qi nodded.

“Why just the two of you?” Xue Chengxuan asked, glancing at Sikong Xing, “Where are the others?”

“They’ve gone to their respective sects,” Sikong Xing explained. “Sister Xue said she wasn’t qualified to enter the Ten Absolutes Mountain, so she left earlier.”

“Hmm,” Xue Chengxuan nodded. He then turned to Meng Qi, speaking seriously, “This time, the Ten Absolutes Mountain is likely to be more perilous. Meng Qiqi, you and Sikong Xing should stand with us later. After entering the mountain, let’s stick together.” He paused, then continued, “The members of the Feng Alliance going to the Ten Absolutes Mountain this time are people you know: Wen He, me, and my sister, Xue Lingfeng.”

“Speaking of which, you’re Lingfeng’s lifesaver. She’ll definitely be happy to see you,” he added with a smile.

Meng Qi smiled faintly. Xue Chengxuan, the eldest son of the Xue clan, always gave a comfortable and amiable impression, never putting others in difficult positions. She had saved Xue Lingfeng in exchange for three thousand profound-grade spirit stones, which he knew about, but he never brought it up. As for Xue Lingfeng, Meng Qi remembered Xue Jinwen mentioned her as a younger sister with great talent in medical arts, bright and lively, and the most cherished daughter in their family.

“Eldest brother,” just then, Xue Lingfeng approached them, “Father is calling you back.”

“Alright,” Xue Chengxuan smiled at Meng Qi, “See you in a while.” He waved and left with Xue Lingfeng.

“That Xue clan young miss doesn’t seem to like us,” Sikong Xing commented. “She was glaring at us just now.”

“Um,” Meng Qi nodded.

“But it’s okay,” Sikong Xing added. She looked ahead to where Yan Shunbei, the sect leader of Jingyuetian, had also appeared. It was about time.

“Where on earth has Su Junmo gone?!” Sikong Xing stamped her foot, “We can’t wait for him any longer!”

“Did he mention what he was doing?” Meng Qi asked.

“Yes,” Sikong Xing nodded, “He said he had to handle something, apparently trying to secure the Demon Monarch’s decree for us. With it, even if we encounter cultivators from the Three Thousand Worlds, they are less likely to harm us unless absolutely necessary, given the current friendly relations between the Three Thousand Worlds and the Demon Realm.”
