ATCF Ch 42 Part 1 – Choose Someone To Spar With (I)

Shen Mian’s expression was so straightforward that Jiang Li almost immediately saw through her thoughts. “As long as you don’t provoke me, we can live in harmony,” she said.

Shen Mian heaved a long sigh of relief. “That’s really good. You can rest assured; I will definitely not provoke you.” After all, she was the one at fault. If Jiang Li could let bygones be bygones, she felt she should count herself lucky. She certainly wouldn’t intentionally provoke Jiang Li again!

Seeing the two of them reach an agreement, Zhang Qingqing also felt relieved. She looked at the two remaining beds in the room and asked, “I wonder when the other two will arrive?”

Shen Mian was stunned for a moment, “I wouldn’t have noticed it if you didn’t tell me. Our dormitory is actually a six-person room.”

Zhang Qingqing nodded, “Yes, we were also surprised when we first arrived. Our previous dorms were all eight-person rooms.”

“Eight-person room?” Shen Mian asked curiously. “Your dorms must have been quite large then?”

Zhang Qingqing shook her head. “It’s a bit smaller than this one. It also has bunk beds, but the bottom is another bed, not a desk.”

Shen Mian furrowed her brow. “Isn’t the person sleeping on the bottom bunk miserable?”

“No, we actually preferred sleeping on the bottom bunk because it saves time, especially during the third year. Everyone was always in a hurry!” Zhang Qingqing explained patiently.

The two outgoing girls had a lot to say, and Jiang Li had no intention of joining their conversation. She opened the bag she had received from the dormitory teacher and took out a quilt, duvet cover, and bedsheet.

The duvet cover and bedsheet were new but hadn’t been washed yet, so they emitted a distinctive smell. Jiang Li looked around the room and wondered, “Does our dormitory have a washing machine?”

Pang Ju met her gaze, shook her head, and whispered, “No.”

Jiang Li: …

Her gaze then moved around again until she saw the air conditioner, prompting a sigh of relief. The climate in Minjiang City was relatively humid and it was still morning, so even if they didn’t turn on the air conditioner, it wasn’t too hot. By noon, however, not having an air conditioner would become a problem.

Seeing Jiang Li lost in thought while holding the bedsheets, Pang Ju couldn’t help but ask, “Don’t you know how to do laundry?”

Jiang Li slowly shook her head. Whether in her previous life or this one, the only things she had ever hand-washed were her undergarments.

Pang Ju hesitated for a moment, then brought over Jiang Li’s washbasin, placed it under the tap, and said, “The sheets and covers are new. Just put them in there, soak them in soapy water for a while, scrub lightly, and rinse clean.”

“Thank you.” Jiang Li nodded quickly. There were many things she didn’t know how to do, but she would learn slowly.

After Jiang Li had soaked the duvet cover and bedsheet, Pang Ju whispered softly, “Although there is a laundry room downstairs, it’s very expensive, 10 yuan per wash. Washing it ourselves does not take much time anyway.”

Jiang Li: …

Forget it. Nothing could be done since she had already soaked them, and the school laundry room was definitely not as clean as handwashing.

Jiang Li discovered that her soft-spoken new roommate was very meticulous. After she washed the sheets and covers, Pang Ju helped wring it out and put it to dry on the hangers.

“Thank you, Pang Ju.” Jiang Li sincerely thanked her.

When Jiang Li called her by name, Pang Ju momentarily hesitated, but quickly smiled and said, “It’s just a small effort, no need to be so polite.”

Jiang Li hesitated for a while and couldn’t help but add, “If you don’t like it when others give you nicknames, you can tell them that it matters to you.”

Pang Ju pursed her lips and whispered, “I’ve said it before, but they still call me that. They say I’m too uptight.”

Hearing this, Jiang Li furrowed her brow. “Then you can lose your temper once or give them nicknames in return. An eye for an eye.”

Pang Ju shook her head, “Forget it, it’s not a big deal.”

Jiang Li: …

Certainly, this one was a soft persimmon. A pushover, so as to speak.

“If someone calls you with a name you don’t like, always voice your displeasure loudly, or else no one can help you.” Jiang Li said as she reached out and patted Pang Ju’s shoulder. She then left the balcony and returned to the dormitory room, opening her suitcase to start organizing her things.

Pang Ju immediately noticed there were many supplementary books in Jiang Li’s suitcase, causing her eyes to lit up.

As for Shen Mian, she was attracted by the toiletries in the box, but knowing the price of that brand, she sighed and silently withdrew her gaze.

Meanwhile, Zhang Qingqing looked at the snacks in the suitcase and exclaimed, “Wow, Jiang Li, you brought so many snacks with you?”

Jiang Li took out melon seeds, biscuits, and chocolate, saying, “Help yourself.”

Zhang Qingqing accepted them without hesitation, tore open the packaging, and placed them on the desk beneath the bed. She then beckoned Pang Ju and Shen Mian to join her. Shen Mian hesitated for a moment but, seeing that Jiang Li didn’t object, slowly walked over to join the snack-eating group.

Just then, the door was pushed open from the outside, and a girl in a checkered skirt walked in. After scanning the room, she furrowed her brow and said, “How did you all manage to take all the good spots?”

The people in the room was stunned for a moment. Zhang Qingqing was quick to return to her sense and furrowed her brow, “Who let you come so late? If you want a good spot, then come early!”

The girl in the checkered skirt glanced at Zhang Qingqing’s clothes and snorted coldly, “Country bumpkin!”

Zhang Qingqing’s eyes widened, “Who are you calling a bumpkin?”

The girl replied innocently, “I’m not talking to you. Or, do you admit that you are a bumpkin?”

Zhang Qingqing was about to argue when another person entered the room. This newest girl, dressed in a very loose black T-shirt with an owl logo on it, was about the same height as Jiang Li. She headed straight for the innermost spot, placed her bag on the desk, and sighed, “Thank god this spot hasn’t been taken yet. I’m most familiar here.”

The girl in the checkered skirt immediately questioned her with a furrowed brow, “Do you know about first come, first served?”

The girl in the black T-shirt turned around. “Yeah, I saw that no one had taken this spot, so I occupied it first. Do you have a problem with that?”

Seeing the black T-shirt girl look somewhat difficult to deal with, the girl in the checkered skirt rolled her eyes and moved her belongings to the nearest spot by the door to start organizing her things.

A few minutes later, Jiang Li looked at the poster on the girl had just put on and furrowed her brow slightly — because the person on the poster was Jiang Ruo.

Shen Mian also noticed this and looked at the girl in the checkered skirt. “You actually like her?” she said with a frown.

The girl in the checkered skirt turned around and glared at Shen Mian. “Are you a fan of Ruoruo?”

Shen Mian let out a “heh” sound and said disdainfully, “A person filled with scandals, and you think it’s worth going after her? Even having antis is still too good for her.”

The girl in the checkered skirt didn’t take kindly to this and retorted, “Are you crazy? Don’t you know that you shouldn’t attack people with their idol?”

Shen Mian rolled her eyes, “Anyone who regards Jiang Ruo as their idol must be mentally ill. Now I’m starting to wonder if you got into this school by connections.”

Checkered skirt girl:……

Entering Minjiang First by connections?

Did they think it is easy to find such connections?

Truth be told, she was able to enter Minjiang First not because of her academic performance but because she had a talent in music. However, since they were living in the same dormitory, it’s highly likely they are in the same class, and their situations should be quite similar!

The girl in the checkered skirt was ready to retaliate, but then another person entered the dorm.

Shen Mian’s attention immediately shifted because she actually recognized this person: “Tang Rou? You also entered Minjiang First? Are you in the same class as us?”

Tang Rou was happy to see familiar faces and even more thrilled when she saw Jiang Li. Carrying her bag, she quickly walked up to Jiang Li. “Are you both living in this room?”
