ATCF Ch 18 Part 3 – Weird Guy (III)

When Tong Yi returned to the classroom, he saw Jiang Li pondering over the last math question on the mock exam paper, so he quietly bypassed her and went back to his seat to sleep.

The supervising teacher glanced at Tong Yi from his seat on the podium, but he soon lowered his head again and continued grading the pile of homework.

All teachers knew that Tong Yi was a problem student. He had taken two years off because of family circumstances, which suspended his education. Upon his return to school, Director Li put on some words for him, asking the teachers to just leave him alone as long as he did not disturb the class.

Despite his bad reputation, Tong Yi indeed never made a disturbance. He often skipped self-study sessions and spent most of his time in class sleeping, occasionally leaving early or coming late.

Like today, for example. Less than ten minutes after the bell rang, Tong Yi asked permission to leave. He was polite when asking and did not make a noise when coming back. In general, he did not disturb anyone.

But what’s the use of that? Tong Yi came to school but did not study. If this was his own son, the teacher would have long given this brat a profound beating!

Tong Yi slept well at the desk until the bell rang at the end of the self-study session. As he slowly opened his eyes, he met Jiang Li’s gaze. Half-sleeping and half-awake, his groggy brain seemed to find how Jiang Xiao Li’s eyelashes were particularly extensive, making him wonder how long they were.

“Jiang Xiao Li, ah. Why are you staring at me like that? Could it be you were watching me sleeping?” Having just woken up, Tong Yi’s voice was a little hoarse.

Jiang Li cast him a suspicious look, “Why did you suddenly transfer 60,000 yuan to me?”

It took Tong Yi around two seconds to react, “Not from me.”

Jiang Li frowned and thought for a few moments, “The twins already know about Jiang Ruo and me?”

Tong Yi snapped his fingers, “Jiang Xiao Li, you are truly adorably smart.”

Jiang Li ignored Tong Yi’s nonsense and continued to ask, “When you went out just now, was it because of this?”

Tong Yi nodded, “Although Feng Song is taciturn, he is very sharp. It’s nothing strange that he managed to infer the truth.”

At this time, other students had finished packing up and were leaving the classroom one after another, but Jiang Li didn’t have the intention to leave yet. She rested her elbows on the desk and propped her cheeks on her hands as she fell into deep thought.

Seeing this, Tong Yi stretched out his hand and waved at her, “What’s wrong with you? Have you been shocked silly by the sudden windfall?”

Jiang Li shook her head slowly, “I just can’t figure out why they gave me this money.”

Tong Yi was actually about to leave, but when he heard Jiang Li’s mumble, he sat down again, “What’s wrong with this? If you were my sister, I would definitely send you money too.” His gaze fell on the worn-looking old canvas shoes on Jiang Li’s feet, and he added: “I will also buy you beautiful clothes and shoes so that you can change styles every day.”

In the beginning, Tong Yi’s intention to cheat Jiang Li into calling him ‘Big Brother’ was purely out of the intention to piss off the twins. However, after seeing her getting along so well with the Feng brothers, Tong Yi now felt that it would be nice to have Jiang Xiao Li as a little sister.

Jiang Li burst into laughter, “You just want to play dress-up doll!”

Tong Yi lightly tapped her forehead, “Jiang Xiao Li, you are much prettier than a doll, you know? So you have to be more confident.”

Thanks to Tong Yi’s joke, Jiang Li finally stopped worrying about the 60,000 yuan. She opened her mobile phone, accepted the transfer, then quickly packed her books and prepared to leave.

Jiang Li was a very self-aware person. She knew that her biggest weakness was her inability to get along easily with others. In her previous life, her poor health made her grow up almost in total isolation. The people she had the most contact with, besides the elderly housekeeper, were only the private nurse who took care of her.

After she transmigrated into the book, she inherited the memory of the original ‘Jiang Li’ — a girl with a very introverted personality. As a result, she really did not have experience getting along with new people, making her very confused when facing the twins’ enthusiasm.

But the Big Sleepyhead’s words actually enlightened her. The twins were related to her by blood, which was why they were so kind to her.

Therefore, she chose to accept their goodwill calmly.

Although she had no experience of being anyone’s little sister, she could start learning from now.

Seeing that Jiang Li no longer looked entangled, Tong Yi tried his luck again, “Jiang Xiao Li, are you really not going to be my little sister?”

Jiang Li frowned, “We are not related by blood. Why do you keep insisting on being my brother?”

Tong Yi pouted, “You really don’t want to? Then forget it. There are countless girls in the world who would like to be my little sister.”

Jiang Li nodded, “Then you can choose one of them.”

Tong Yi: …

Facing Tong Yi’s resentful glare, Jiang Li hesitated for a moment: “Or… you can choose two?”

Tong Yi sighed helplessly, “Jiang Xiao Li, is your nickname GanGan?”

Jiang Li shook her head, “I don’t have a nickname.”

“But I think you are a steel hearted GanGan. The kind with two hearts.” Tong Yi said again. He thought that Jiang Xiao Li, who until a few days ago didn’t even have a smartphone, shouldn’t know this popular internet pun.1

Jiang Li was stunned for a few seconds before snapping back: “Then you are Tong HanHan!”

Seeing Jiang Li getting angry, Tong Yi’s mood became inexplicably good. He clicked his fingers and looked at her, “Jiang Xiao Li, you are actually quite cute when you are angry.”

Jiang Li grabbed a book and raised it up threateningly, “Try calling me random nicknames again, and I’ll beat you up.”

Tong Yi hurriedly reached into the drawer of his desk and took out a pack of bear-shaped biscuits, “Okay, okay, I’m sorry. This is for you, so forgive me, okay?”

Jiang Li was annoyed by his insincere apology, but she still accepted the biscuit and asked, “You used to bring a big package of these. How come you only brought a small one today?”

Tong Yi: …

She asked why? Well, that’s because of a certain someone’s ravenous appetite! If he didn’t take some measures, Jiang Xiao Li might turn into Jiang Chubby Li in no time!

Facing Jiang Li’s serious question, Tong Yi didn’t even bat an eyelid as he made up a nonsense reason, “The vendor said that the biscuits are too popular and in short supply now.”

“So that’s it!” Jiang Li was a bit disappointed, yet she was also quite happy. This Big Sleepyhead was quite loyal — the biscuits were already in short supply, yet he still gave her this much!

Jiang Li reached out and poked Tong Yi’s arm, “Big Sleepyhead, although I’m not your little sister, we can stay friends!”

Seeing Tong Yi’s sullen look, she quickly added, “You are the first friend I made after I came here.”

The ‘here’ that Jiang Li meant was this new world, the world of a book she transmigrated into, but Tong Yi naturally thought she was talking about her transfer to Mingjiang International School. Comforted, he regained his vigor: “Jiang Xiao Li, since we are friends, we are naturally of the same generation, right?”

Jiang Li nodded without thinking, “Of course. Why do you ask such a strange question?”

Tong Yi was in a good mood, “Okay, just remember what you said today.”

Jiang Li: …

Why did she feel that this Big Sleepyhead was so weird today!

  1. It’s impossible to translate this pun into English… Alright, so there is this word, 憨憨, read as HanHan, which translate to silly/naive but with a cutesy connotation. The individual character 憨 can be split into two characters, 敢 and 心. The above character forms the word 敢敢 GanGan which means bold/daring, while the lower character 心 literally translates as a heart. Therefore, when HanHan lost hearts, they became GanGan.
