TGCF Ch 19 Part 2 – To Go to Yan City, First We Must Flatter Dr. Ning. (II)

“For five hundred yuan, you’d commit a crime,” Xia Mian said coldly, holding a stack of fresh bills, sneering, “As expected, all trash.”

A’Long eyed the film in Xia Mian’s hand and said ingratiatingly, “Yes, yes, we are trash. When he comes looking for us, we’ll fix it for you. Miss, how do you want to deal with him?”

A’Hu also nodded eagerly, “Right, of course. We’ll definitely handle it for you.”

The two buddies exchanged glances, a look they usually shared with a smirk, but this time they quickly looked away, as if startled. It seemed they couldn’t face each other for a while.

“No need,” Xia Mian said, giving them a sharp glance. “I’m not scum like Zhang Qiming. I’ll handle my own matters.”

“As for the deal between him and you, that’s none of my business.”

“I’ll go develop the photos tomorrow,” Xia Mian said, shaking the film canister in her hand. “If you don’t want them to be published in newspapers or sent to your family and friends, never show yourselves again in front of me and Xiao Feng. Now, scram!”

The trio fled in terror.

Watching them running away as if they had just seen a ghost, Xia Mian wondered, “Is it really that shocking?”

Well, it seemed that in this era, homosexuality was still regarded very negatively, as most people had never even heard of it…

Unexpectedly, Xia Mian would see the real thing that afternoon.

Xiao Feng was still recovering, so he slept until almost four in the afternoon. After waking, Xia Mian fed him some fruit, she decided to make use of the cooler weather by heading to the People’s Hospital across the street to fetch Xiao Feng’s medical examination report.

The report was on the second floor and was quickly obtained. Just as the aunt and nephew were descending the stairs, they encountered the strikingly handsome Dr. Ning in a white coat, coming their way. If possible, Xia Mian did not want to see him, but he was causing quite a stir, being surrounded by seven or eight doctors and nurses like some kind of idols, all of them had this star-struck look on their faces and continuously praising, “Dr. Ning, how did you do it?”

“Dr. Ning, you’re incredible.”

Even the passing medical staff were eager to strike up a conversation with him, thrilled as if they had won the lottery. Xia Mian finally understood why Zhang Qiming always said Dr. Ning was in high demand.

She vaguely overheard that he had just completed an impressive surgery. Xia Mian found it hard to imagine this mean guy being so competent. Could it be that he used his sharp tongue to spur patients’ will to live through a desire for revenge?

While Xia Mian was lost in thought, he seemed to notice her too, and even worse, clearly still remembered the grudge from being forced to eat strawberries at noon. Seeing his unfriendly gaze, Xia Mian quickly rolled her eyes and pulled Xiao Feng along to take a detour.

Ning Shaobai chuckled angrily, captivating the crowd with his sudden laugh.

“Ning Shaobai! You cheater! I’ll kill you!” a sharp and angry cry suddenly broke the silence. It sounded like a man’s voice, but it was strangely feminine, which was unpleasant to hear.

Then, a young man in a bright yellow short-sleeved shirt and jeans suddenly burst from the crowd behind, brandishing a knife and advancing towards Ning Shaobai with slightly flamboyant steps.

“Dr. Ning!”

“Watch out, Dr. Ning!”

“Ah—!!”

Shouts filled the air as people instinctively backed away from the glimmering sharp knife.

Xia Mian was speechless. What is this? Since when did threatening people with a knife become a fad?

Ning Shaobai sensed the danger behind him and was about to dodge to the side when he suddenly felt a push on his right knee, causing him to fall on one knee. The knife-wielding young man passed over his head, missing his target and falling forward due to inertia.

A figure swiftly passed by his side, so fast that the movements looked blurred. Ning Shaobai felt the soft hem of a skirt graze against his cheek, causing a slight pain.

By the time everyone realized what had happened, they saw the young man with the knife being held down by a girl in a dress, her knee pressing against his back as she kept him restrained in front of Dr. Ning.

Ning Shaobai clenched his teeth, but before he could speak, the girl in front of him looked shocked instead, her tuft of hair standing on end to express her confusion: What in the world have I just done?!

Xia Mian was indeed shocked because she suddenly realized: this Ning Shaobai’s very skilled, he didn’t need her intervention!

So many people!!! No!!!! Her angelic image!

The young man under her knee struggled continuously. Xia Mian vented her anger and gave him another good smack, eliciting a painful scream and making him cease his struggles.

Xia Mian immediately feigned shock, releasing her grip abruptly, just in time for the approaching security guards to hold the man down.

“You’re not bad. Have you trained before?” The security guard said.

Xia Mian quickly waved her hands, “I—I just have good reflexes. I saw him with the knife, so I acted in a panic. I’m actually terrible at fighting.” Fearing further questions from the security captain, she hurriedly went to help Ning Shaobai, “Dr. Ning, are you okay? You were almost stabbed just now!”

Luckily, her quick reaction had made her kick his knee!

His knee still throbbing with sharp pain, Ning Shaobai shot a glance at Xia Mian, who looked smug after rescuing him, and gritted his teeth, “So, I should thank you?”

Xia Mian replied, “No need, no need. We’re neighbors, no need for such formalities.”

Ning Shaobai: “…”

The crowd that had scattered earlier now quickly gathered again, coming forward to express their concern, “Dr. Ning! Are you injured?”

“I’ve already called the police!”

“Dr. Ning, does your knee hurt?”

“Pfft…”

Ning Shaobai looked up.

Xia Mian tried her best to hold back her laughter, “I-I’m sorry, I just… Does your knee hurt?”

Ning Shaobai coldly responded, “What do you think?”

It must hurt, but it’s still pretty funny, haha…

With suppressed laughter, Xia Mian returned her attention to the flamboyant young man who was persistently struggling, constantly flicking the strand of bangs on his forehead. In later generations, such people would be called effeminate; nowadays, it seems they are called ‘shemale’?

The femme guy continued struggling and yelled at Ning Shaobai. His voice was high-pitched, a bit like a eunuch in a TV series, and his tone was choked with sobs, “Ning Shaobai, you heartless man, how could you dump me!”

The crowd was momentarily frozen by this startling revelation.

Ning Shaobai himself was also surprised for a moment. As he looked around, people instinctively avoided making eye contact with him, which actually helped him regain his composure.

Then, his eyes fell upon Xia Mian, who seemed as if she had just been struck by a bolt of thunder. He frowned impatiently and was about to speak up when the girl beat him to the punch, exclaiming in a shocked tone that matched her expression, “Ning Shaobai, your name is Ning Shaobai?!”

“…” The anger building up in Ning Shaobai’s chest was instantly deflated by her exclamation.

What’s wrong with his name? What’s so shocking about him being called Ning Shaobai?

If Xia Mian could read his mind, she probably would have exclaimed again: Of course it’s shocking! Ning Shaobai is the name of the male lead’s mysterious uncle!
