“Junior Sister Yunsi needs to be alone. Fellow Daoist Mo, please keep your voice down to not disturb Junior Sister Yunsi’s recuperation.” Senior Brother Zhang’s face remained stoic.

Mo Shuang’er felt these disciples looked down on her because she came from a smaller sect. She knew the disciples of the Biyun Sect were jealous of her close relationship with Yunsi and believed that they were upset because Yunsi treated her better. “Tell Yunsi I’m here to see her, she will definitely want to see me.” Mo Shuang’er raised her eyebrow and said defiantly, “Aren’t you afraid Yunsi will blame you if she found out? Let me through!”

The two disciples hesitated and looked towards Senior Brother Zhang.

Senior Brother Zhang stood firm, repeating, “Junior Sister Yunsi said she wants to be alone. Please, Fellow Daoist Mo, you may come back another day.”

Mo Shuang’er was still furious at first, but she hesitated upon hearing that these were Yunsi’s words, “Is it really what Yunsi said? You’re not lying to me?”

“If Fellow Daoist Mo doesn’t believe it, you can ask Junior Sister Yunsi in a few days. If I lied, I will apologize to you in front of everyone.”

Mo Shuang’er believed him mostly, doubting Senior Brother Zhang would dare to lie to her. “I’ll come back in a few days, and if you’ve lied to me, I won’t let you off!” Leaving those words behind, Mo Shuang’er finally turned around and stormed off.

Since she couldn’t see Yunsi, she directly rushed to the East Ninth Peak, determined to confront the brat who caused Yunsi so much grief.

Mo Shuang’er had a few encounters with Lu Yaoyao, each time unpleasant. No wonder she found the child annoying from the start, that brat’s truly a scrouge!

So, Mo Shuang’er headed straight to the East Ninth Peak, but the path was so crowded she couldn’t squeeze through. Looking around, she saw only precious disciples from major sects, none of whom she could afford to offend, loitering around like a common crowd. Feeling indignant but unable to find anyone to hold accountable, Mo Shuang’er almost fainted from frustration.

Three days later, seeing Sang Yunsi still dispirited, Sect Leader Sang had no choice but to talk it out again. However, despite his attempts to console her, Sang Yunsi remained unresponsive.

“Master, who is that woman? Who is she?” Sang Yunsi abruptly sat upright, turning towards Sect Leader Sang. She wanted to know where she fell short; she was young, beautiful, and talented. All these years, she had been deeply devoted to His Venerable, so why did he never notice her? She couldn’t accept it!

Sect Leader Sang’s frown grew deeper, choosing not to respond. However, Senior Brother Zhang, who had been silently standing by, felt compelled to speak up. “The identity of His Venerable’s Dao companion remains unknown. There are many speculations, but no one has come forward to claim it.”

Sang Yunsi’s expression darkened, “His Venerable has not held the ceremony, so how can he have a Dao companion?”

“His Venerable must dislike the child’s mother. The child must have been conceived through some means, and His Venerable had no choice but to acknowledge her because of the blood relationship. But the woman, His Venerable will certainly not acknowledge her.”

“…” Senior Brother Zhang hesitated but eventually said nothing. Although some had secretly speculated the same, what difference did it make? Cultivators didn’t conceive easily, especially someone at His Venerable’s level. Regardless of how the child came to be, her status was unshakeable.

But Sang Yunsi found this reasoning more plausible. So what if the woman had given birth to His Venerable’s child? Having a child was meaningless if His Venerable didn’t acknowledge her or grant her a legitimate status. As long as His Venerable hadn’t formed a Dao companion bond, she, Sang Yunsi, still had a chance.

Sect Leader Sang seemed to see through Sang Yunsi’s thoughts, his expression hardened, “Enough, Yunsi, give it up. Don’t make things even more disgraceful.”

Sang Yunsi’s fainting at the memorial ceremony had not gone unnoticed, and many people outside Biyun Sect had witnessed the scene. Previously, when His Venerable had no one by his side, Yunsi’s relentless pursuit was admirable and hardly the subject of gossip. But the situation was different now. With His Venerable already having a Dao companion and child, Yunsi’s continued advances would turn her and the sect into a joke. While cultivators may not be held to the same moral standards as ordinary people, attempting to interfere with a couple’s relationship was frowned upon. As Biyun Sect’s chief disciple, Yunsi represented the sect and carried its reputation and future. By continuing to be stubborn, was she deliberately seeking to harm the sect’s reputation?

Sect Leader Sang knew jealousy had clouded Sang Yunsi’s judgment, but unlike her distraught disciple, he also understood His Venerable’s character to some extent. As the number one powerhouse in the Cultivation Realm and one of the only two beings with Great Ascension cultivation, who could scheme against him? The child’s mother must hold a special place in His Venerable’s heart. Otherwise, given the difficulties cultivators face in bearing offspring, how could a mere fleeting encounter result in a child?

Whether the child’s mother made an appearance or not, it did not negate her position in His Venerable’s heart. Whether His Venerable held a Dao companion ceremony or not was their personal affair, and outsiders had no right to comment.

With a furrowed brow, Sect Leader Sang made his decision, “We return to our sect today.” He could not allow the Biyun Sect to become a laughingstock.

Sang Yunsi looked at him in disbelief, “Master?”

Sect Leader Sang no longer looked at Sang Yunsi. He turned to his other disciple and instructed, “Ying’er, gather the disciples to pack up. We leave in an hour.”

Zhang Ying glanced at Sang Yunsi, respectfully replied, “Yes, Master,” and then turned to leave.

Sang Yunsi’s complexion turned pale, “Master…” Why?! Hadn’t he always supported her? “I won’t go back!” She shook her head.

“It’s not up to you,” Sect Leader Sang said coldly, “Are you going to defy your master’s orders?” With a flick of his sleeve, he turned and strode away, “Think carefully about what you do.”

Sang Yunsi’s face became even paler and her vision turned black. She understood her master’s meaning: if she disobeyed, she might lose her status as Biyun’s chief disciple. She couldn’t afford to lose that status…

Lu Yaoyao was unaware of the events unfolding in the guest residence; she was alone in her courtyard, pretty much bored with having nothing to do, so she took out some artifacts she had received a few days ago and played with them. A seven-colored glossy bead, bigger than her two fists, rolled around on the ground, accompanied by several other equally valuable beads. Controlling the beads’ movement with her spell, Lu Yaoyao made the largest glass bead collide with the others while also using a few strands of spiritual aura to make the other beads dodge and roll away playfully.

Her friends came to keep her company every day, but they were also busy with their own responsibilities in their peaks and couldn’t stay all day. The South Fifth Peak, in particular, was especially busy, so Lu Yaoyao didn’t want to trouble her senior brothers who needed to stay and work. Thus, Lu Yaoyao had no choice but to entertain herself.

The beads continued colliding with each other, producing a clear and pleasant sound. Lu Yaoyao, increasingly engrossed in the game of chase and escape, soon forgot her boredom. Suddenly, the smaller beads rolled faster, as if sentient, scattering in all directions. The big bead chased after one but failed to catch up. It then switched targets, but the small beads seemed to know and quickly rolled away, with some even rolling back teasingly.

Lu Yaoyao exclaimed, noticing something was off. How could the beads be so lively? She had only imparted a little bit of aura into them, not enough to make them this active.

She tried to make the small beads stop, but they wouldn’t listen.

Lu Yaoyao withdrew the spiritual control on the small beads and focused on controlling the big one. She didn’t believe she couldn’t hit the beads! Yet, the small beads continued to dodge nimbly as if they had awakened spiritual consciousness, not allowing Lu Yaoyao’s bead to hit them.

At first, Lu Yaoyao really suspected they had awakened spiritual consciousness and became sentience, but she immediately dismissed the idea. These beads, after all, were gifts from the sect’s leaders and elders. It was impossible for them to gift her with an object that was on the brink of turning into a demon.

Realizing the truth, she stood up with her hands on her hips and shouted, “Daddy, I know you’re here! If you have the guts to mess with me, show yourself!”

  1. It’s kinda sad that her sect is willing to let her continue with her cognitive distortions and supportive in that as well! At least her Sect Leader is finally ready to put a stop to it. I can imagine her sect brothers continuing to support her in this pursuit even against their own personal better judgement!
