DDDV Ch 108 Part 1 – Tianyan City (I)

“…In an instant, Dao Venerable Hengwu swiftly jumped aside and lifted his sword. His cold voice rang: ‘Prepare to die!’ The sword flashed several times, cutting through the sky and striking the green-faced devil general, leaving him frozen in shock. Facing his last moment, the general refused to give up and shouted: ‘His Venerable will avenge me!’ However, his words were in vain, as several streams of blood soon spurted out from his body, and he fell to the ground, defeated.”

“Good!”

“Wonderful!”

At the center stage of Xianke Restaurant’s main hall, an eloquent storyteller with snow-white hair and a long beard held the audience spellbound as he recounted tales from various parts of the Yuanqi Continent. The thrilling plot and intense atmosphere he skillfully built stirred up enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Tianyan City stood out as the most thriving capital city in the Cultivation Realm. Located nearest to the foothills of the Guiyuan Sect mountain, its vicinity to the number one sect made it prosperous. While many cultivators might spend years in seclusion to hone their skills, not all were solely focused on their training. Among them were wandering cultivators and disciples of smaller sects, who often sought occasional diversion from the rigors of daily cultivation.

Tianyan City also boasted the most comprehensive market of spiritual materials and artifacts. Here, one could find the largest refining facility and a special pagoda where cultivators could practice simply by paying spirit stones. As a result, the city had always been a popular destination for cultivators from all over the world, particularly for wandering cultivators, whose lack of affiliation with any sect often limited their access to cultivation resources. As long as one had enough capital, they could find all the resources they needed in Tianyan City.

The training pagoda, especially, was very famous. Dao Venerable Hengwu was the owner of this pagoda, which he generously donated to Tianyan City 500 years ago after subduing the magical artifact that controlled it. As long as one had enough spirit stones, they could enter the pagoda and test their skills. Words had it that on the topmost 100th floor lay a sword intent left by Dao Venerable Hengwu himself — a rumor that drove countless sword cultivators to madness in pursuit of it.

But Tianyan City was not all about serious business. Whenever they had time to spare, many visitors and residents alike were fond of visiting the main hall of Xianke Restaurant and listening to the storyteller. As the number one figure in the Cultivation Realm, Dao Venerable Hengwu Dao had always been the most popular protagonist in these stories.

Today, the storyteller was narrating the story of “Dao Venerable Hengwu vs. 108 Devil Generals,” one of the most popular titles in recent years. In addition, there were also “Dao Venerable Hengwu vs. Devil Venerable,” “The Untold Stories About Dao Venerable Hengwu,” “Dao Venerable Hengwu vs. Five Demon Kings,” and so on.

Any stories about Dao Venerable were especially popular with the crowd. Everyone loved to listen to it, even if they were aware that the writer based their scripts on rumors, exaggerated tales, or fictional accounts. Many travelers, whenever they found themselves in Tianyan City, would make a point to visit the Xianke Restaurant to enjoy the stories.

The numerous stories about Dao Venerable Hengwu could be categorized into several genres — for example, tales of his heroic deeds and the gossip of his love affairs. Both genres were enjoyable, but heroic tales were generally more popular. “And that’s all for now,” said the storyteller, bringing the gavel down with a sharp thud. “If you want to find out what happens next, be sure to catch the next session.”

The white-haired storyteller gave his excited audience the last bow with a smile, then descended the stage and gracefully took his leave. The audience, still hadn’t had enough, turned to their companions and began engaging in a lively conversation over cups of drink.

There was never a shortage of gossip, regardless of time. Sixteen years ago, the two most powerful people in the Three Realms, Dao Venerable Hengwu and Devil Venerable, mysteriously disappeared after entering an ancient secret realm. Their absence almost threw the Three Realm into another turmoil, and it was only after their return three years ago that the sparks of war were extinguished. Now that things had just calmed down, a little princess suddenly emerged from the devil race. Said to be the daughter of the Devil Venerable himself and was deeply favored by her father, the whole Devil Realm celebrated her arrival with great fanfare.

News was also coming out of the Demon Realm. Not long ago, the Demon Realm was unified under one Demon Emperor. This Demon Emperor did not emerge from the previous five Demon Kings, but an unknown black qilin that seemingly came out of nowhere. According to rumors, the black qilin defeated all five demon kings in a battle and forced them to surrender.

The Demon Realm’s original intention was to select a Demon Emperor to prepare for an attack on the Cultivation and Devil Realms. With the Emperor now chosen, it is unclear whether they would proceed with their plan to violate the peace treaty, especially since both Dao Venerable Hengwu and Devil Venerable had returned. The crowd in the restaurant enthusiastically exchanged opinions about the extent of the new Demon Emperor’s power and whether he posed a threat to the remaining two realms. Some surmised that he might be the third Great Ascension powerhouse, given that even the previous five kings were defeated under his hands. However, this remained uncertain, as there had been no reports of any demon cultivator recently breaking through to the Great Ascension stage.

But the entire Cultivation Realm, down to the non-cultivator people, had no worry. With Dao Venerable Hengwu here, they were confident that the Demon Realm wouldn’t dare to act rashly, so the topic of gossip gradually moved to the next big event: the arrival of the Little Princess of the Devil Realm.

“That Devil Venerable actually has a daughter, but our Venerable doesn’t.” A cultivator lamented, feeling bitter when he imagined how proud the devils must be.

As the only two Great Ascension powerhouses and the strongest beings in the Yuanqi Continent, Dao Venerable Hengwu and Devil Venerable had always been a topic of endless conversation. Naturally, human cultivators stood on the side of their Dao Venerable Hengwu and were always proud to declare their Venerable as the absolute number one.

Every time Dao Venerable Hengwu and Devil Venerable engaged in another battle, the entire Cultivation Realm believed that Dao Venerable would finally win. As a result, hundreds of years have passed, and the two have been tied again and again. Of course, this didn’t shake their belief that Dao Venerable Hengwu was number one!

Both Devil Venerable and Dao Venerable had an equal level of cultivation base. Practically whenever one of them made progress to the next level, rumors would circulate that the other had also advanced simultaneously. Furthermore, the relationship between the two Venerables was also the worst. It was said there was a deep blood feud between them, and they were practically deadly enemies. Even after the war stopped and a peace treaty was maintained between the three races, the two Venerables would always go into a fight whenever they crossed paths, even if the end result was they both suffered in ties.

In the eyes of the human race who idolized Dao Venerable Hengwu, their Venerable was the well-deserved strongest person in the Yuanqi Continent. The only reason why he kept ending up in a draw with Devil Venerable was because of the other party’s sinister and cunning method!

Their Dao Venerable Hengwu was an upright person! It must be Devil Venerable’s dirty tricks that keep him from winning every time!

And thus, when the Cultivation Realm got the news about the arrival of Devil Venerable’s daughter, they felt upset inside. Let alone a child, Dao Venerable Hengwu was still single at his age. Didn’t it seem like their Venerable had lost to Devil Venerable in this aspect?

“No, wait. Devils are lecherous by nature, and Devil Venerable himself has more than a hundred concubines in his palace. Isn’t it normal that he has one or two children?” The speaker’s tone was full of disdain. Then his tone shifted to one of reverence, “Our Venerable, on the other hand, is of noble character, with a pure and virtuous nature. How can he be compared to such a villain?”

“That’s right! Our Venerable is…”

At a table in the southwest corner of the second floor, a red dumpling was perched on the edge of a chair, leaning against the railing with her ears pricked up, eagerly listening to the juicy gossip being exchanged below. This was even more thrilling than the storyteller earlier!

  1. I’m just wondering how word got out about the devil princess when the boundary to the Devil Realm was closed the entire time she was there, lol. As for her brother YuanYuan, he’s finally the Demon Emperor! I can’t wait until he improves his cultivation realm so he can visit Lu Yaoyao. It’ll take a long time until they develop romantically, though…the wait will be torturous, lol.
    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
